Emily, I picked up Baseball Stars 2 after you gave it a mention. Loads of fun. Best result in high score mode is 9 runs so far.

Awesome!! I'm really pleased to hear that you're enjoying it! :)

Baseball Stars 2 is one of my favorite Neo Geo games to play on Switch. I always recommend it whenever someone is looking for Neo Geo recommendations.

My other Neo Geo recommendations for Nintendo Switch:
  • Big Tournament Golf (Neo Turf Masters)
  • Magical Drop 3
  • Garou: Mark of the Wolves
  • Shock Troopers
  • Metal Slug 1, Metal Slug X, Metal Slug 3
I also really dig Waku Waku 7 because it's more of a casual fighter. It's not a super serious fighting game.

Some people like it, some people don't. Personally, I really dug it, but that's just me.

What were the guesses for casual stinkers again?

I remember, Freakyforms (personally think it's this), Go Vacation, Mario Sports Superstars, and Amiibo Festival.

That's Stinker Horesperson 2, thank you very much.
so some of our potential real answers are:
  • Everybody Switch – a 1-2 Switch follow-up full of Joy-Con-centric mini-games for more than two people. Question is, would they make this with the Switch Lite in the wild? Or would it control differently?
  • Animal Crossing: Everybody Festival – board game style capitalizing on the Animal Crossing boom, less reliant on Amiibos. Requisite horseperson guaranteed, but “horseperson” would be a weird thing to single out in an Animal Crossing game. I still think it’s less likely since they just dropped the expansion, even if a different team worked on it.
  • Hey! Pikmin: Everybody Pik! – somehow a 2D multiplayer Pikmin game? Maybe there’s a horseperson predator?
I feel like Ring Fit Adventure 2 isn’t it based on comment structure, and I also wouldn’t expect Miitopia 2 so soon. The phrasing also made it seem like it’s a sequel to a game where there’s only been one other major release? But I could be way off.

Shock Troopers and Neo Turf Masters are awesome. I have Metal Slug X and I'm absolutely terrible at it - can barely clear the first stage without seeing game over. It's a shame because the pixel work is stunning and I know it's a quality game. I just get frustrated with myself.

On top of Emily's list of Nintendo-published titles for 2022, I'm going to suggest we also get -

  • new 3D Mario
  • new Style Savvy
  • one or two Dragon Quest games published by Nintendo outside Japan
  • F Zero 99 (believe)
  • GameBoy NSO
  • Mario vs DK eShop game

Wasn't SnipperClips suggested at one point? Snipperclips: Cut it out, together (everybody?), received generally favourable reviews, mentioned once by Nintendo in April 2017 as having sold 350K, so I can't imagine it exactly lit up the sales charts since then (nor the public's enthusiasm(

I'm a big fan of Style Savvy. I enjoyed how it combined cute fashion with business simulation.

I'm resurrecting this discussion because it's interesting and I want to talk/rant a bit about it

So, EXP and level growth is, imo, typically best when it's either A. tied to actively learning new skills and abilities/shaking up the gameplay and/or B. a background element that you never need to engage with. Which is, imo, usually the case. If you're grinding in a modern RPG, you're doing things wrong. So why include it at all? Well, A should be obvious, it lets you parcel out gameplay changes over time in a way that the player feels like they're earning them. B is less obvious, but it does allow you to extend the adventure and create a sense of getting stronger over time even if you're not actively engaging with the systems. And hell, "lizard brain likes numbers go up" is still a valid reason to include something in an entertainment medium.

Now, I think where EXP goes from "a good thing to have" to "necessary" is with turn-based combat, which is why it's brought up so much in the PM:TOK discussion. You can get away with not having EXP in a real-time system by making the act of combat more intrinsically satisfying in its own right, and by having other methods of progression (for example, BoTW has you find stronger weapons, action games have you unlock new moves using currency). But in a turn-based systems where any given action is less intrinsically satisfying and combat is much longer on average, going through a long combat and ending up with nothing in return doesn't feel great, even if the combat itself is excellent. And it's not really a question of "I have no reason to go and fight enemies" it's more "if I end up fighting enemies, I'm getting nothing out of it".

So in terms of PM:TOK in particular, since it did start this discussion, you'll enter a long turn based combat/puzzle thing and end up with only coins as your reward, which yeah have some value but it's not readily apparent what that value is (which is something an EXP bar shows intrinsically). So entering combat feels strictly like a punishment you're getting nothing out of. Now, on the flip side, adding experience to PM:TOK is actually pretty hard to do with the combat, since there isn't really any way to meaningfully change things up over time with the current combat philosophy. They kinda got stuck with no EXP being the best route once they chose to have a puzzle combat system, since adding EXP as is probably wouldn't improve the combat and would probably make it even more tedious. So in the case of PM:TOK, the problem isn't really that it doesn't have EXP, imo, but more that the combat doesn't really lend itself to that sort of progression as well as being kinda tedious after a while.
Yeah, the fundamental mechanical problems with Origami King mostly stem from the ring combat system itself, which is pretty one note and has a lot of weird vestigial elements that often weigh it down.
Wait, it wasn't publicly known that this was made in Unity? That's surprising. I had heard about this a month ago...
I don't think they ever officially announced it. Was one of the first things we learned when copies leaked, though.

I appreciate that Suswave has remembered the "Everybody" hint.

Everyone always forgets about Everybody.

Honestly it probably would have been better if BDSP wasn't made in Unity, though. ILCA did not do a great job at recreating the game feel of Game Freak's titles, and using their engine probably would have helped with that.

What is the 2022 Casual Sequel?

The Clues
  • It’s a sequel
  • Original got middling reviews
  • Working title includes “Everybody”
  • One or more people in this thread have guessed what it’s a sequel of
  • Someone at Nintendo thinks it’s a “stinker,” not because it’s bad, but because it lacks depth
  • There is a horse person in some capacity
The Stakes

The losing teams will get their avatars STINKY HORSEPERSON’D by either me, themselves, or volunteers.

The avatars must be worn for a month after the game in question is announced.

The Prize

Smug satisfaction, unless anyone can think of something better! I’d get you eShop gift cards but that might be a mess internationally. TBD!

The Teams

Anything is fair game, but your team name must be the assumed title, including “Everybody” in it.

Teams can openly debate what they want their name to be, but it does not need to be exact to win — just needs to be the correct implied sequel.

So “Game & Wario 2” wouldn’t count, but “Everybody Game & Wario” would! And everyone who thinks it’s a Game & Wario game would join that unified team (and can debate to change the name to a better / funnier fake title at any time).

Additional Rules

Due to the indeterminate nature of the announcement, team declaration can’t be changed willy-nilly. Maybe you get a week after declaration to change your mind?

My next post will be my team declaration!
Its miitopia 2 :everybody's mii

The fact that they bothered to push back on the rumors leads me to believe it's more than 12 months away and they don't want people getting worked up, or disappointment to chill sales on available products
They only commented on it so that more people buy the oled, they can still have something planned for next year

Having a hard time making the Amiibo Festival naming work with "Everybody":

Amiibo Festival 2: Everybody Stinks of Horse

Animal Crossing: Everybody's Horsing Around With Their Stinky, Anti-Consumer Amiibo Cards

Everybody from Animal Crossing Votes On How Much You Stink Like A Horse

Has anyone compiled a list of the casual game guesses?

Sorry for this being unrelated, but I hope y'all stay safe tonight. As a black man, I am just so tired and worn out.
fuck, I’m so sorry, I just saw

stay safe everyone. Black Lives Matter. Fuck white supremacy and fuck the court system for not even pretending to hold white men accountable. Fuck the police who inspired, defended, and practically congratulated this piece of shit for clear hate crimes. This is going to empower so many awful people to do so many awful things. Fuck this.

I like Florida when you completely ignore anything political and how insane there governor is. Its nice and warm, and Universal Studios is awesome.

Otherwise, Florida sucks, but this might push me to go back
I don't even like the warm, so Nintendo World is literally the only thing Florida has to offer me. 😂

I suggested on Twitter that WayForward should take a shot at Wario Land, but not everyone seemed to be into the idea.

I mean, Captain Syrup (Wario Land) looks like a character that came out of the Shantae series.

Shantae and Wario Land both have that pirate them going on.

Well I, for one, think Wayforward would kill it. I love the Shantae series. ❤️
