Extremely pleased, and then extremely poor.

All I need is for my second favorite game ever to have a big budget HD remaster for 2022 to be utterly satisfied. Fingers crossed!

Can someone familiar with Hollow Knight help me? I'm a bit stuck. I'm still in the early game, just defeated the Silksong protagonist for the first time, met the hunter, and now I'm trying to figure out where to go next. Am I supposed to unlock that door near Dirtmouth next?
Not the door, no. You should be able to use the item/ability you got from the Hornet fight to access new places, not sure how much you want me to tell you beyond that though.

This would be by far the greatest release year for Nintendo.

I think I would rank the hypothetical 2022 as follows

2017 > 2020 > 2022 > 2021 > 2019 > 2018

but ranking first party years is always pretty tough

chip shortage won't stop them for very long when their orders begin manufacturing
It's been a year since Xbox Series X and PS5 came out, and I still have yet to see any of them on store shelves. Console shortages are expected to last until next year. I doubt Nintendo wants to launch a new console with these conditions.

It'd be great. With something like a Pikmin 4 teaser for 2023, it'd be perfect though

That would undeniably be a great list of games even if I would probably only buy 3-5 of those.

where's donkey kong

that 2022 would objectively be the greatest year of all time but the thing is I don't really like things that are good

I'd much rather play clubhouse games, big brain academy, and pikmin 3 again than zelda 2, metroid prime, splatoon 3, and every strategy game ever made

I feel like that would be a crazy good year. Of that list, I would anticipate getting at least 7 of those day 1, probably more if I'm being honest. That would be a record for first party software for me:

2017 - 5
2018 - 2
2019 - 5
2020 - 3
2021 - 3

This would easily be the best year of Switch for me, if so. If BOTW2 makes it, AND we get XC3 and another Fire Emblem? That's plenty right there. I'd be buying almost every game on that list, which is a little scary.

2022 will be the death of the wallet for sure. And there are still some games from this year I want to get as well. Guess will need to be very selective and wait on eventual sales (backlog is big enough). Exciting year for Nintendo for sure though

Best year since 2017, easy.

Actually, it probably would surpass that

Emily’s suggested 2022 lineup would be really solid, better than most expectations.

But what about third parties ? Hopefully they also deliver good amount of quality stuff.

don't really have a choice. the chip shortage has been said to last as long as to 2024. if Nintendo leaves their place in the fabrication line, then they wouldn't even make a 2023/2024 launch. at that point, Dane might as well be scrapped and work on a new chip

oh boy oh boy I have a list to slot into months because that is my hobby now

The Hypothetical 2022
Jan: Pokémon Legends: Arceus
Feb: I have no idea
Mar: Triangle Strategy
Apr: Advance Wars 1 + 2, Kirby and the Forgotten Land
May: Stinky
Jun: Splatoon 3
Jul: Mario + Rabbids 2
Aug: Fire Emblem
Sep: Metroid Prime HD Remaster
Oct: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2
Nov: Bayonetta 3
Dec: Xenoblade Chronicles 3

Those plus a few more (mostly smaller) surprises? Sure, that's about the year i'm expecting, and it'll be a pretty great one.

Just hoping the whispers about a certain ape in a tie prove fruitful.

I have a bias for Mario platformers, but otherwise the 2022 hypothetical easily betters 2017. So 2022 would be contender for peak Switch year, since the other one that was my favorite was 2019 in terms of number and variety of games.

annual first party purchases are a fun barometer of quality but I like to temper them with a count of how many I thought blew

2017: 5 (nothing blew)
2018: 6 (2 blew)
2019: 4 (2 blew)
2020: 6 (2 blew)
2021: 10 (3 blew)
2022*: 5 (n/a)

I sure do buy a lot of games I don't like

2027: Breath of the Wild HD

Only 5 more years.
Why did this age me so hard

As a whole, I'd enjoy it by getting 7 (maybe 9) of these games, plus if the Casual Game is RFA2 but without the need to buy a physical copy would make a world of difference.

What would absolutely send me over the edge frothing at the mouth? New entries in Pikmin/F-Zero/Custom Robo/Chibi Robo, and/or (preferably and) access to those same titles via Gamecube on the NSO

Is there a word for the sort of overstuffed-but-happy feeling one gets after Thanksgiving? Because I don't think the word "satisfied" quite covers it.

The pieces are all falling into place for 2022's true Zelda title; The Legend of Zelda: CDi Chronicles.

Nintendo can stock up until they have enough for launch. I doubt that'll happen next year. And Nintendo said that the Switch 1 would have a longer lifespan than normal.

  • Zelda I guess

you have a few ways you could go, so I don’t want to pigeonhole you

but I’d look around in the Forgotten Crossroads — Greenpath is to the left, Dirthmouth upwards, so try heading in the two other major directions

No Mario Baseball Switch, no dice. Sorry ninty fam.🤷‍♂️

Seriously tho, it'll be nice to finally play Bayo 3, BotW2, and Mario + Rabbids 2. I hope they all live up to the expectations.

where would you keep a million Nintendo Switches for a year
Hyrule, duhhhhh.

Nah but seriously though I dunno. I just think it's a bad idea to launch a major console with the current situation. The XSX/PS5 are already suffering because of shortages.

logistics costs also increased. storing that many chips is gonna eat a huge unnecessary cost. there's no reason to do this unless you can't put together a complete system

there's nothing wrong with a soft launch, especially if the new hardware is still tied to the current platform

stocking up on hardware long-term just isn't viable really. if it's that dire they'll cancel the thing, like feet said

Odyssey was already a content jammed game, but I still wish it had a hub that felt more home-y. To keep with the theme of traveling the world they could've made the hub take visual inspiration from like an airport or train station. lol
IMO, an Odyssey sequel could benefit from having a vastly bigger ship that you explore, sort of like Rosalina's Observatory.

Just thinking about the potential line up for 2022 has me feeling so giddy!! which is actually bad for me personally since y'know.. backlog

It's been a while since i felt so excited for potential game announcements and line ups! Maybe it's because the previous Game Shows/E3's or whatever weren't that strong. But I feel like 2022 will be the year where all the banger news will come out! 🤞

Either way the year already sounds super strong with the already announced stuff!
