StarTopic Nintendo General Discussion |ST19 April 2023| A tradition unlike any other

Mine shipped so you should be good.
Yeah. I think I’ve had this happen before where on weekend sometimes accounts take a bit to update. I have the order number and screenshots so not worried at all. Was surprised to get a BOGO sale rather than the usual buy two sales. I also think I’ve committed myself to like 200 hours of gameplay…

There's something poetic about the fact that the Switch launched with Zelda, and now six years later we've come full circle.

Feels kinda like how Wii began with Twilight Princess then got Skyward Sword in its twilight years, or how the SNES began with Super Mario World, then got Yoshi's Island the year before the N64 arrived.
you could say it’s ouroboros-esque

We're getting pretty close to direct speculation season!
First we need to have H1 Indie World before we start any general Direct discussion. Should be one early next month.

After that, things will be pretty interesting as we don't have ANYTHING for the latter half of the year save for some NISA stuff.

I think the Indie World will come early, probably at the end of this month. Zelda hype will dominate the beginning of May.

Honestly, I'd love that, means we'll get some shadow drops sooner, possibly Outer Wilds or Solar Ash. But I don't remember when was the last time we had "late in month" Indie World, it's always been within first two weeks of the month.

Tears of the Kingdom looks cool and all but when is Nintendo finally going give us more information about the Sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild? They said it was in development in 2019 and we still don't have a release date.
Jokes on you; I’m still waiting for the NX

I would do the Gamestop deal but the only Switch games they're doing that I don't have is Octo 2 and Mario Strikers but I don't think Strikers is worth the trouble since I cant play online, I guess I could get Diamond for free and give it to my nephew but IDK.

I am still reeling from the end of Space for the Unbound. This year already has two soundtracks that not only are going to be on my list for OST of the Year (Unbound and Octopath 2), but both games also feature excellent examples of a game music track that is already amazing on its own, but is also used perfectly in the game itself, and that's one of my favorite things that games can do. I think we've had a thread on it before, but if not I might have to make one at some point about that - the perfect placement of a specific track in a game, at just the right time, that elevates both the music and the game itself together to be more than they are alone.

Hope you can get through
Looks like they've understandably enacted some sort of bot protection or something on the website. If I don't try to load multiple pages in rapid succession they work fine, otherwise I'm getting an "Access Denied" message 😂 The app seems to be working fine too, except for the part where you need an account to order anything there. Which I don't have and my email address seems to be associated with an account but reset password attempts go to the void. Fun times!

That scene in Final Fantasy VII

Dancing Mad

Also, Dolphin Shoals. You know the moment.

Also also, The Tetris Effect. All of it.

No direct til September I'd imagine.
That just means a longer speculation thread!
oh shoot I meant to ask about this yesterday

I'd like to start one on Monday, May 15th. People will be playing and enjoying Zelda, but in the following weeks people will start to be very interested in Nintendo's plans.
Looking at May 15th on my calendar, it's wide open for spending a day with a mug of tea and some speculation-posting.

Finally got the GS order to go through. Between that, Theatrhythm Final Bar Line, OT 2, TotK and Pikmin 4 I think I'm good for 2023. See you all next year!

that first vocal track on the first level was like I went out of body experience. Never thought Tetris could be made to be like this but it’s so amazing.

There's a damn good reason Eurogamer spilt so so so much ink about that game 😂

ah-shit-here-we-go-again-ah-shit.gif

Direct speculation summer season will both be unbearable and insane because Tears of the Kingdom will have been released, there's no E3 so we don't even know if there will be a normal Direct, and the only upcoming game with know release dates/windows is Pikmin 4. There's Baten Kaitos and potentially Xenoblade 3 DLC although the latter is likely to be revealed and possibly released before the middle of June.

Low chance they skip a June Direct, they have no dated games past July and I doubt they’re gonna do a bunch of Twitter reveals for those.
This is where I’m at. They purposefully only dated games to July - setting them up perfectly for a general in June to date August - end of year.

If you want to list the best moments in Chrono Trigger you just have to ask. I know @chocolate_supra is around here somewhere…

Oh I can think of like... five, at least, just purely off the top of my head. Chrono Trigger uses its music SO well (on top of it just being, well, great music).

I'm pretty sure it's impossible to not feel psyched up to go punch Magus in the face when Frog has his reflective flashback, and then it cuts to:

"Mine name is Glenn...Cyrus' hopes and dreams...and now the Masamune, forthwith I shall slay Magus and restore honor!"

BRB gonna go cut a mountain in half.

Yes low chance. They still has to reveal third party games, specifically from Sega, Namco and Square, who reveal most of their stuff in Directs. No reason for Nintendo to leave them alone like this, whatever they have, they'll show it along with others.

According to Americans it already is

Only if you begin the OP with "IT'S ME, RACCOON. I HAVE RETURNED."

Always 😉

Plus when you approach Magus and the black wind howls

Plus when Ayla's triumphant music plays as she kicks the collective ass of a whole mob of reptites

The "Boss Battle II" music that plays for Masa&Mune

Literally any scene where Schala's theme plays

All of these are good picks. Another excellent one is giving Magus his own speech and pre-battle interaction with Queen Zeal AKA his mom if you take him with you fight her at the top of the Black Omen, and then replacing the boss music with his own theme music. Badass.

The Magus introduction gives me chills even after seeing it at least a hundred times.

Wait, what? I’ve played through that game 5+ times and I never once thought to put him in the party at that point. 🤯🤯🤯

It's a small thing, but I love that they thought to add it in if he's with you, it adds a nice personal touch to the fight. And if you're given the option to fight a boss to Magus' music... I mean... c'mon

I think once PixelKnight’s RPG voting is done we need to have a vote on boss themes.

And yea, I love little incidental touches like that. Square was great about little things like that back in the day. It was also a lot easier to do when you didn’t have to also voice the lines and could just add them on a whim.

I just...don't know what else to do with this knowledge, maybe seek confirmation that I'm not crazy?

Remixes/covers of songs that give an F-Zero soundtrack type vibe

The first one I only heard tonight, the GNR techno remix I heard over a decade ago but since I first heard it I always immediately envision that one tube level in F-Zero GX with the green plants n shit

I almost wish there was no Direct for the rest of the year just to see all the meltdowns, the doomposting, the hopium huffing, the “Switch 2 must be coming” believers, the “good thing TotK is 500 hours long” crowd…
And the "finally some time to tackle the backlog" crowd.

me. I'm talking about me.

I'm always the time to tackle my backlog guy and when it comes time to play my backlog I instead play a game I have beaten for the 40th time. Or buy another game I know I don't need.

I just finished A Space for the Unbound... I have no words. What a beautiful ending. One of the best ending sequences to a game that I've ever experienced.

If anyone needs me, I'll be curled up in the corner bawling my eyes out.

Late replying to this but I also loved this game, it was so chill but also brought all the feelings. Happy to see some love for it!

Happy Monday everyone. Looking forward to Advance Wars at the end of the week, as well as the window until Tears of the Kingdom getting ever smaller.

I just bought Judgment for PS5 because it was 10€ and it looks pretty fun, what more could I ask for ?
I hope I can finish it before TotK.

OR, setting themselves up for an August Direct detailing the new console launching in December.
