Waiting for it to hit the Switch as Dane exclusive hah. Seriously though I'm not used to PC gaming, but I may have to give in soon
Yeah I played a little yesterday and found getting used to the keyboard controls to be my undoing
Apparently there’s a new Super Mario Bros any% world record - 4:54.914

Huh, I thought the previous record was supposed to be the fastest theoretical time

Have to give a shoutout to Fire Emblem: Warriors

After having it stashed on my collection I finally dippeded in today.
Played 3-4 hours and can easily say that this is by far the best Nintendo Warriors-spinoff, at least for me.
Looking great, running smooth as butter, best "strategy" gameplay since the commands really are succesfully executed by the KI and the double Team mechanic combined with the series iconic weapon triangle is a really smart and fun gameplay decision.

If Age of calamity would have gotten the same polish and a performance mode it still would lack the strategy and "Tag-Team" influences I really enjoy in FE: Warriors.

First impression is great so far!
Shame on me I didn't play it earlier and kinda skipped it since I wasn't that interested in Fire Emblem (before three houses came and changed my whole perception of the franchise. Easily became my favourite Switch game and I don't like tactic-RPGs at all)

You might be thinking of the tool assisted speedrun using emulators, frame by frame inputs, etc to produce a theoretical fastest time possible (which is like 0.7 seconds faster than that run iirc). That world record is of a human player legit playing from beginning to end.

It definitely will have new features and gimmicks to call it with a different name, but I'm not sure if it'll lose any of Switch's current features (ditch the split d buttons please!).
I think it will still have the word Switch in its name, just with something added (like 3DS was to DS).

This is crazy, the bastards finally did it.

I'd wondered for years why they didn't just give you an option at the start of the game to choose which version you want to play, or set a flag near the start based on some small decisions you make that are obfuscated from the user.

Practically speaking this discovery demands no more outrage than the original practice of selling two versions of the same game. It's just that now we see they've made the process more streamlined on their end.

It's still a gross practice and sucks, but I think this discovery is kind of hilarious. Everybody was concerned that only Diamond had leaked, until someone discovered it was also Pearl.
I thought all of them literally worked like this? like it would be literally more work for no reason to code it any other way

You know, on that note, knowing nothing about DS game ROMs, I wonder how easy it'd be to realistically turn a (DS) Pearl ROM into a Diamond one. As a kid I had both but played more Diamond...until I lost it. It'd be fun to use the copy of Pearl I ripped to "recomplete" my collection, so to speak.

Sure, I'd rather play Platinum, but it's the fun of it.

3D World is heckin fast bros. It’s like warp speed fast. It’s Sonic “gotta go fast!” fast. The Wii U game is a leisurely stroll in the park, and the Switch version is a jackrabbit who hits you in the face with a goddamn baseball bat and then hotfoots it out of your garden having stolen all of your carrots.

It might be too fast bros.

I realized another reason why I'd be comfortable with DQXI being used as a base for a Chrono Trigger remake/sequel:

This game has perfected the modern version of the 16-bit item shiny.

It might be too fast bros.
My avatar when you suggest there's even such a thing as "too fast":

So if Kirby and the Forgotten Land is set to come out in Spring, and Nintendo's already got Triangle Strategy in March and Advance Wars in April, who wants to bet that they'll save Kirby for a May release?

Seems plausible, but I also wouldn't be surprised if they doubled it up with Advance Wars for April, since I doubt Advance Wars is high priority for Nintendo

@Raccoon I keep typing and then deleting responses to a lot of the things you’ve said today, so I’m gonna try again:

I’m sorry you’re having a tough time with everything and that Nvidiendo Doink speculation is making you feel cheated out of both community and enjoyment of your Switch

but it’s not dead, and most of us are still very excited about games that have happened, are happening, and will happen — and want to be part of that with you!

but I get how it can all fold in on itself with everything else. so I’m wishing you all the comfort and contentment that I, a chaotic abyss creature, can wish you

nothing is lost to the future, we are now and we are here. every ending summer begins something new. the stream goes wetways ever onways, the screaming yeehaw drowned in reverb ‘til it soothes the soul. words are a thousand dollars per picture, like tears in the rain. what is love? baby don’t stop beleaguered, hold on to that seabird!

what I’m trying to say is… don’t let the fresh be what’s eating you.

Likely why they wanted RTX, even in limited form, present in handheld mode -- to simplify matters. The info on this matter is months old, so tweaks could have been made since I heard of it back in January.
Hopefully you hear something about the June dev kits then, as they probably have some updates regarding that, though I am sure the final dev kits, which I guess may come out next year, maybe in spring, will have further optimizations, specially once the specs are completely finalized.

Probably. I'm betting the schedule is something like:
  • Pokemon Legends Arceus (January)
  • Triangle Strategy (early March)
  • Resident Evil Outrage/Revelations 3 (late March/April)
  • Advance Wars 1+2 Reboot Camp (early April)
  • Kirby and the Forgotten Land (May)
  • Splatoon 3 (June)

Sounds reasonable. BotW2, if it's gonna hit 2022 still, is gonna either be in November or December, just so they can get as much work in on it as possible. And then Mario+Rabbids 2, that might hit an August release date like the original game did.

Pretty much. Bayonetta 3, Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak, and the rumored Metroid Prime remake also make much more sense for the back half of the year. Add in a new IP in whatever month and another Mario game and the year is set.

Any word on whether this is still a thing that's happening?

Always wondered what artsyle a remake of the mother series would look like. I'm thinking either a studio ghibli or Play-Doh art style.

Trying to finish up the SMT V ST. Taking a bit of time cause I'm trying to pack as much information as I can because I know for a fact the series is really daunting for newer players lol.

Hopefully, it's up by tomorrow.

It was in those Capcom leaks with a release date of Q4 FY21 IIRC, and it was also rumored alongside Monster Hunter Switch (which later became Monster Hunter Rise). Pretty sure it's still happening.
I can't the specific details of the Capcom leak, did it actually say it was a Switch game? It's just Q4 FY21 is fast approaching and still no word at all from Capcom.

I'm not sure if it did, but it was rumored to be a Switch game long before the Capcon leaks hit. The same person who leaked Monster Hunter Rise said it was.

The dates for the Capcom leak are basically confirmed to be changed at this point, so if Outrage is coming and wasn't canceled or changed, it probably isn't Q4

My guess is that it's been delayed significantly and it'll take Rise: Sunbreak's original release window of Q4 FY22 (I think). With Sunbreak moved up on the schedule my guess is that Capcom moved their other major developed-for-Switch title back.

Yeah I think they altered the speed way too much. It doesn’t feel like the games level design is suited for it.

I think they should have atleast had the original speed as a default and the new one as some new funky Kong remix mode and thrown some more enemies and etc in to make it harder

The June kits were just another wave to put devkits in hands of additional developers. Don't think there was any meaningful change in features.

Really enjoyed the latest podcast, Nate! As someone who managed to snag a PS5 from amazon last year, I've asked myself if it was worth it multiple times since then :p. I think overall it was, I loved Demon's Souls and Returnal, and playing through a lot of PS4 games that are either enhanced or just with much better load times has been very nice (Sekiro is a big improvement!). Still, it does feel like next gen has had quite the rough start (obviously COVID and supply issues have had a lot to do with that). Looking forward to better years ahead.

Er... uhhh... I mean, how about that Nintendo, huh? shuffles around awkwardly SMTV in two days!

It's been an odd start to a new generation. Our Xbox discussion should be fun, too.

Hey @NateDrake, did you ever watch that Uncharted fan film with Nathan Fillion? I think I saw you say that you didn't like the look of the new movie, so I was wondering about your thoughts on it (the fan film).

I'm not really even an Uncharted fan and I thought that fan film was great, but I've loved Nathan Fillion in basically everything he's ever done.

Excited to hear it. Haven’t had a non-Nintendo console since the PS2 but this gen I’ve been fighting off the urge to buy a XBXS instead of a PS5 for the first time between the two. I wonder if many feel similarly after Gamepass especially.

Gamepass really seems like such a good deal, but I'm not sure it's enough to make me buy a Series instead of a PS5 (whenever I decide to get around to buying either). Might try XCloud first to see how it works for me before coming to that decision.

Seems like BDSP endgame is pretty "hard"

I really don’t want to check the leaks before diving in, haha. Is it possible to say “hard” how without spoilers? Are we talking more difficult opponent teams, more complicated legendary missions, long stretches without healing or something like that? :p

True! That's also a factor in me being fairly uninterested in a Switch upgrade

I guess for me the Deck is a more worthwhile purchase than an upgraded Switch since it's a bigger expansion of the potential games I can play. Whereas I can't imagine Dane adding anything interesting and exclusive for a while
Yeah, Deck adds a whole 'nother dimension of games/library and options.
The best gaming days were those when I had both the DS and PSP, and I'm honestly kinda hoping that Switch + Deck will bring back some of that excitement, where 3DS and Vita sadly let me down in many ways.

I don't get your surprise, it was always clear that these are practically the same game. If without knowing anything someone would've asked me how they do it I would've guessed they create the content of both then implement a bool type variable that decides which one is running. It is much more logical and convenient this way, especially since because of trades and pvp the textures from both variants are needed in both cases.

Also, I am not 100% familiar the rules of these forums regarding this subject, but is it fine to share URLs to piracy - even on pictures?

There are rematches with good team compositions, movesets, items etc

Hmmm. But what about the Fami that chewed out other Fami for not respecting their criticisms of a game that isn’t even officially out yet?

(EDIT: To be clear, I’m not trying to be a dink. I just remember that some people here offered that people should wait and see how the games play out before jumping to conclusions based on incomplete information. They were charged with being shills who were going on defense for the evil TPC and Nintendo instead of respecting the criticisms of people who obviously know better.

I’m not saying there aren’t going to be valid criticisms of the remakes in the end. I’m sure the Pokémon community will probably hate them. It’d just be nice if the games were given a chance before the outrage starts.)
