For me, I have a strangely strong memory from that weekend. You know the kind where everything seems almost crystal clear and you can remember nearly every detail?:

I had been playing BOTW pretty much all day when I finally got to exploring the lost woods. It was getting late and I kept thinking I should go to bed, but I was in the middle of trying to figure out how to get through the woods and kept trying things out, loving the puzzle-y mysterious music. Finally I realized about the torch and it just clicked, I made my way to the Deku Tree and saw the Master Sword, and I just kind of sat there for a bit in awe of this game before calling it a night. Just a magical moment that I hope can be replicated with TOTK.
Helps that you likely were half asleep, eyes glazed over, so the horrible frame rate at that part was unnoticeable to your diminished focus.

I remember stalking my window with my dog waiting for Amazon to drop off my Switch. This was when I still got my Amazon packages through UPS. ( the good old days for me) It was around 7pm and I was losing hope, as the delivery routes usually stop dropping off stuff around 8pm. Finally, I see the UPS van turn on my street. So I'm about to open the door, but I noticed it's speeding up. For a second I thought I was just picturing it, but no it zoomed past my street without hesitation.

In that moment I made peace with not getting it that day, so I gathered all my crap to get ready to prep for bed. My dog was glued to that window, no matter what I did he would not move from that window. So I let him stay there, because really he was a stubborn guy. It was almost 9pm and I heard him bark ( which was unusual for him). So I rushed to the front and sure enough he let me know not one but two UPS trucks were in front of the house. The UPS truck that had my Switch was actually the driver's first day and simply got lost. (It can be a bit confusing for my route)

If my dog didn't bark, there was a good chance that my Switch would have gotten stolen if they left it out in the open. There was no real reason for him to stay up there either since I told him otherwise, but he somehow knew it was important to me. So I pretty much just set up my Switch the first day and didn't really play anything. However, it's one of my favorite memories of my old dog. We just spent the day chilling together as I waited for my new nerd toy and he came out with the clutch win.
Ok, nothing is gonna beat this story. Love it

Also depends on the time zone but it just occurred to me:

Happy Six Years, Switch and BOTW!

Hardly seems possible that six years ago I was about to drive to Best Buy to pick it up and discover how magical the system (and Zelda) can be.

What was everyone doing six years ago, whether you got a Switch or not? Let’s share vibes and memories!
So actually right about now (9pm on March 2nd my time) I was in line at my local WalMart. I had called earlier in the day to confirm that they had copies of BotW for WiiU coming (which took some doing because they were completely focused on the incoming shipment of Switches) but after some time on hold someone was able to confirm for me that they indeed did have copies coming of the WiiU version as well, and that I should head out there at 9pm if I wanted to be there early enough to not risk them running out.

So I did.

I spent the evening standing in line with I dunno how many other people, shooting the shit about Zelda stuff (which was weird to me at the time because I still thought Zelda, being very much Not An FPS was relatively small in the modern gaming culture) and on multiple occasions explaining to people why I'm not getting a Switch (I already had a WiiU, Zelda was the only game I cared about on Switch at the time and I wasn't spending $360 to play that one game), which kept tripping people out because, like, how could I not be wanting a Switch?? I genuinely didn't care, I loved my WiiU, I wanted Zelda.

Well I got to the front of the line, finally. The clerk asked me, "Neon or grey?" and I said "No, sorry, no Switch for me, I'm just here for Zelda for WiiU please." She said "But you need the Switch system to play the new Zelda." I explained to her there was also a version for the WiiU, and that's the one I wanted. They should have it somewhere, I called ahead and everything. She was confused. She said the only stuff that came in, the only stuff they're selling, is the Switches and the Zelda for Switch. She hadn't heard of a Zelda for WiiU.

Well I remembered the name of the guy who assured me over the phone so I asked if he was there so I could talk to him (and stop holding up the line). He came out and apologized, said their inventory shows them receiving over a dozen copies of BotW for WiiU, but his stock people have no idea where they are because the Switch launch has been dominating everything. By this time it was like 1am (the line formed at 9pm but they couldn't sell until midnight) so he told me to go ahead and go home and he'll look into it overnight and personally get hands on a copy for me at some point and it'd be waiting for me tomorrow morning.

So then at 7am on the 3rd, on my way to work I drove to WalMart and asked for the guy. He had found nothing, and as he went to different people asking them, nobody could account for any copies in the store. Even though their inventory said they had them. After he asked me if I was sure I didn't just want a Switch, I assured him I was fine and began walking back toward the front of the store.

And it was at that time that I passed by one of those glass display cases they set at the ends of aisles, and saw a whole row of Breath of the Wild, in blue boxes. WiiU copies.

I went back to the electronics department laughing my ass off, told the guy I had found them, and he wrote on a sticky note "give him $20 off" and signed it, for me to take to the cashier.

And that's how I bought Breath of the Wild on release day for $40.

(years later I discovered it was one of the misprinted boxes that were going for upwards of $1000 on ebay if unopened but like a dork I had opened and played the shit out of it but at least I know)

Ok this is cool too. In 20 years some dope will want it for thousands even if it’s been opened.

Walmart electronics section was a temple and the glass display case was a treasure chest.

What kills me is I went right to work after that, and when I told my boss the story he said "If they had that many more copies of the other version, then yours is gonna be rare, you shoulda bought like five" and I was like naaaahhh video games aren't that collectible and he was all "I'm serious, you should go after work and buy a couple more and leave them wrapped" and I just didn't think it was a thing.

He's a Lego and HotWheels collector. I shoulda listened to him.

So weird to me that people want the thing that’s incorrect, but I guess if you don’t open stuff and just leave it sitting, you value it as a curiosity.

I think it's just neat seeing a screw up. My friend has the famous Resident Evil Revelaitons box and he didn't even noticed until I pointed it out to him. Things like that should easily be caught before they are sent out, but it just didn't somehow.

I do have the Okami IGN watermark Wii cover. I don't think it's as cool as the Resident Evil Revelaitons box, but it does make me laugh whenever I see the Okami box on my shelf. I also still have the replaceable covers Capcom sent out for the Okami Wii boxart. It's just a fun little memory.

Can't wait!! Half of Quantumania shoulda been just him, I swear. Kang Dynasty is gonna be nuts.
Kang should have gotten his own movie instead of being shoved into an Ant-Man movie. The creative choice baffles me. Why not have a Kang origin story movie, where he slowly turns evil after fighting multiple versions of himself? It would have been perfect. Instead, he was the best part of a terrible movie.

AND GOT KILLED OFF BECAUSE MARVEL IS FREAKING STUPID. I DON'T WANT THE OTHER VARIANTS, I WANT THE GUY I JUST GOT INVESTED IN!

I bet a lot of it is people trying to get ahead of a curve on what's gonna be worth ten thousand or a million next (like those insane copies of OG Super Mario) more so than actually wanting to have it. And since its a screw up that got corrected, it's therefore something rare that will make it even more valuable in the future just due to the initial scarcity.

God I feel cynical as hell just typing that.

He had a better origin story in Loki, even. It was a decent 1-2 punch if you saw Loki, got all that story, and then got to see the dude he was talking about show up in Ant-Man. So that choice I like in concept, and him being trapped in the Quantum Realm is a.. admittedly simple but solid way of explaining "okay but why was he not a massive cosmic threat until now?" The only thing that kills me is the execution. They spent so much of the runtime on the sorta bullshit sleuthing and MODOK and setting Cassie up for Young Avengers and all that time could've gone to Kang. But I got the feeling they just didn't want to alienate casual moviegoers who were there for Paul Rudd.

I feel like I've done this rant before, actually..

Very cool story, hope you realize that Nintendo is sending their ninjas to kill that guy who gave you a discount.

Had a Neon Switch, Joycons+Snipperclips bundle, Zelda Collectors Edition and Super Bomberman R pre-ordered at gamestop, they had midnight launch so they opened their store an hour or so early for some mingling. I live in a smallish city so we werent that many there but everyone was very excited and happy. I think we were like 25-30 at the store and some more people showing up around midnight.

Time arrives, and it's my turn to pick up my stuff - I pay (I discover when I get home that they put in Super Bomberman for about 1$ so basically free :p)
Drive like a mad man, to be able to play some before bedtime since I had work the morning after.

After work I drive to another store and pick up a pro controller so and back home to more BotW. It was magical.

A memory showed up on facebook this morning from launch day, and I remember it very well thinking - hell I'm in for some adventuring many hours ahead =)

I thought that the Switch looked so damn cool, and the first impressions from friends who got it made me wanna buy one right away, but I was pretty broke at that time so I sold off my Wii U (and the few games I had on it) and started saving for a Switch right away. After three months of skipping lunches and eating pasta I was able to afford one with BOTW and it was so worth it.

I remember watching websites for when preorders would open. Though I was more worried that I wouldn’t be able to get the special edition for BotW at the time.
And living in Canada (our preorders always seem to happen at random times after the US have theirs up) I ended up preordering from a US site first as a safety in case I missed the preorders going live for BotW in Canada.
Got a Switch and the special edition of BotW. Still use the Sheikah switch case.

My US preorder I redirected to a friend in the states who had missed being able to get theirs in.

I ended up going to the launch night line ups with some friends.
It’s not usually the kind of thing I do anymore. I don’t mind waiting a couple extra days and usually I don’t have time for it.
But my friends really wanted to go so I went along. It was a fun time. And it was cool to make conversation in line with other people waiting.
Funnily I could have gotten everything I had preordered that night. And if the order hadn’t been shipped already I would have been tempted to.
I had expected that my friends and I would get to the front of the line and find out they were sold out. Seemed like they had a lot in stock though and even though I had to wait for mine to come through the mail it was fun to see my friends excitedly get their Switchs.
Many of my friends aren’t really Nintendo fans. They play a couple of the Nintendo games but they tend to be more interested in the other consoles.
Nice having my friends cross over into my interest of gaming space and playing some similar stuff for once.

March 9th/10th are stacked: Mario Movie, Professor Layton and Capcom presentations plus Mario Kart DLC and Metroid Fusion on NSO dropping.

Happy B Day Switch!! You'll never be the 3DS, but you are one fun little guy and that's what counts.

The Switch and BotW both turning six feels super unreal to me. Time has flown by, wow.
And I'm still in the honeymoon phase, god damn!

Train delayed, and I get one of those moments where I just get warm inside just casually thinking about Xenoblade Chronicles 3.

I swear to god, they changed the timing for the mikiri counter on pre-Isshin Genichiro just to fuck with my head. It is super late.

Sword Saint just has too many different things he can combo into for me to wrap my head around. Might be here a while.

Omg scratch that, got him literally on my next attempt.

Wo Long, Guilty Gear, Soul Hackers 2, and Ghostwire all on Game Pass with Resident Evil 4 and a next-gen upgrade for The Outer Worlds. Pretty good month for a console who’s fan base is having a meltdown literally every other hour.

My experience of having a Series S reminds me of my pre-internet days because I just buy and play the games and don't interact with the fanbase at all so I never really know what's going on.

I was able to preorder a launch day Switch at work. I remember I was scrolling through GAF at like 8am and I saw a thread posted that Target was accepting orders. Quickly pulled out my wallet and bought. Didn't have time to use my personal email to make an account so I used my work one. So because of Switch, I get Target.com spam every single day.

My Switch and Breath of the Wild were waiting for me after work on launch day. I set it up all up and started playing. Then I remembered I had dinner with my friends that evening and had to stop. The entire time I was waiting for dinner to be over:

Should've just admitted you were sick that night.

A lot of us mysteriously got ill around that day 6 years ago... odd.

I can kind of understand where some of them are coming from. People here get frustrated that Tears of the Kingdom and Metroid Prime 4 were announced too early. Now imagine if Nintendo did that for almost every big game they were making. It's obvious Microsoft wanted to announce a bunch of games early to drum up hype for the system but many people assumed these titles would be out sooner than this.

Oh we're talking Switch preoder stories?

Here's mine. I took a day off for the 2017 Jan Presentation, not because that's something i do, but because it aired at like 4 am in the morning here in Europe.
So i had to get out of bed early, and i hate that.
Being totally grumpy from early wake up, i watched the Presentation and to be honest, was pretty let down. Which may or may not have been caused by the grumpyness.

Then came the BotW trailer and saved the morning for me.

Afterwards, situation was totally unknown here in Germany, so i spent the rest of the morning F5-ing Amazon.de, Media Markt and Saturn like an idiot until Amazon finally ended my torture by opening preorders for the Switch and the BotW Collectors Edition.

Then i went to the doc, because lets not waste that free day and had my bad back checked.

Finally, i spent the rest of the day being grumpy, trying to not fall asleep, and starting to get impatient like Cartman in the South Park Wii episode.

Ironically, this was a way better experience than with the Wii launch.

I didn’t get a Switch at launch. It was like a month and a half after launch, when they were very very hard to find. I went to the Shoppers Drug Mart across from where I worked at the time after work and said “do you have a Nintendo Switch” and they had exactly one that I bought, and then went home and proceeded to purchase exactly one game on the eShop: Neo Turf Masters, from the Arcade Archives series.

(I already had BOTW on Wii U lol)

That was my only game for a few weeks, until Puyo Puyo Tetris haha

Nintendo consoles i got at launch:

N64 (was lucky one retailer had a few left, others were sold out)
GCN (no problem)
Wii (paid for it not only with money, but also two strained ribs)
Wii U (very har... pppffffff hahahaha no, no ... no issue)
Switch (see my last post above)

Didn't get at launch:

NES (I'm not THAT old you lot...)
SNES (little me had little to no money for it)

Dang, beat me to the punch asking about Switch memories on its birthday 😋 Now I gotta wait until the page jump for my next post haha

I did pre-order the neon Switch shortly after the presentation, along with the collector's edition of BOTW with the Master Sword statue. On the day of pickup, I was in the midst of a social media break after sharing a post about racism/sexism that made my facebook profile extremely volatile and gave me a bad anxiety attack. I had the day off work, and from about 9:30AM until nearly midnight I did not leave the TV except for food and bathroom breaks from playing so much Zelda (and a bit of Kamiko and Fast RMX since they were the only other games available haha). Did wonders for my mental health, and from there on out I was simply enamoured with it. I even recall for some reason it was the first Boomerang I ever made on Instagram just pulling the Switch out of the dock and how quick it was to transfer from TV to console and back like the cool kid I am haha

SNES (little me had little to no money for it)
The only Nintendo system (or video game period) that I got at launch.. or in this case, closest at launch (in the launch week), was the Switch

I bought my Wii U in 2013

I mentioned in the scalpers thread, but yeah I couldn't get a switch until September 2017, it was sold out everywhere. And the only reason I could get one is that I was just in a gamestop looking for some 3DS games when I was in a US business tirp and heard the store manager and a clerk talking how someone just called to cancel their switch order. So I just said to them "if it's avaliable, I'm taking it".
