I love looking at the concept art for BotW Link and feeling validated for my dye decisions.
They really loved the hooded look, no wonder TotK Link's got one as a part of his main design.
Because theyre cool and usefull on a journey. we also all have coats with hoods for when it rains ir its windy
I've seen this sentiment a lot from different people, but I can't say I agree with it.
For BotW, we got:
1. A concept teaser back when Wind Waker HD was announced
2. The reveal teaser showing the new world and artstyle
3. A game awards showcase that showed off gameplay and a view of the entire map
4. A full E3 reveal trailer showing tons of new things about the game
5. Extensive gameplay footage of the entire Great Plateau
6. A game awards live gameplay showcase
This was all stuff that was shown off before release year. We also got a bunch of interviews with Aonuma, as well as a few minor trailers in-between.
For TotK, we've only gotten 3 teaser trailers, a couple interviews, and some minor marketing materials like the life size Link statue. There hasn't been a full trailer yet, and no gameplay footage. Half of our news about the game has been from leaks and patents.
yeah, its not the same, but it also doesnt need to be.
The last one was during the Wii Us downfall, with BotW being its last big game, and a radical shift that they needed to "sell" classic zelda fans.
They moved back to zelda one, where discovery was a huge aspect.
Exactly. Itβs irrelevant if this is or not a sequel to BotW: it is a new 3D Zelda game and the one they have decided to go silent about it longer than any other in the past since Ocarina of Time, iirc.
Just a bunch of teasers is insufficient for one of their biggest hits on the Switch. For some people may be enough, but it is still less than the past entry.
I know perfectly fine that game will sell well, just like I know that marketing has been barebones to this game.
Well, it is one of the zeldas where suprise and self discorey is the most in the forefront. and its the first zelda where we reuse a map in that way.
Its also the direct sequel to one of the best selling ones. I get why they play coy.
I can't wait to come to the thread in two months and see everyone complaining that Nintendo is showing TOO MUCH of TotK.
Jep, what i almost expect to happen
Agreed. The issue I have with this type of marketing isn't about it's effect on TotK's sales, it's about my own enjoyment of the prerelease "hype".
If Nintendo decides that they need to show very little of the game in order to sell more copies/save money on marketing, that's good for them. But I'm not financially invested in Nintendo. It doesn't matter to me if TotK sells 3 million copies or 30 million copies, that's for Nintendo to care about. What I enjoy is discussing and theorizing about an upcoming Zelda game, and that simply hasn't been as enjoyable for TotK as it was for the past 3D Zelda releases. I'm sure we will get some big trailer eventually, but by that point the game will be out in 3 months anyway. I got years and years of fun from the prerelease cycle of BotW, but with TotK there just hasn't been much to talk about since the trailers haven't shown a whole lot of interesting new things.
I'm obviously going to buy TotK no matter what happens, as is everyone else who is complaining about the marketing. But as a Zelda fan, I'm just disappointed that I'm missing out on all the fun prerelease discussion that we would normally be having for a new Zelda game.
Your personal enjoyment it its own thing, nobody should argue against that. For me personally, i would rather not have much more information, one trailer before release that shows a little more (but maybe not as misrepresenting as the last BotW trailer... one of the best ones ever, but missleading)
This is not true as far as I recall. Twilight Princess was "Holiday 2005" title but was then pushed a year later and that was announced in August of 2005 that it would be released sometime after March 31st 2016. And as we know it ended up being Holidays with the Wii. So very far from "given solid date".
TP was not pushed back that often, and the big push was because of the Wii. And Holiday is not the same as a concrete day.
