The comparison isn't quite the slam dunk though. 18 characters are shown in the picture against 26 in the list. However, the picture shows Orville but not Wilbur, which is a bit unfair. And Redd, Lief, Gullivaarr and Pascal were added as permanent fixtures within the first several months at a decent pace. So the difference isn't that stark. And that's not considering that the premise of setting up on an initially uninhabited island is supposed to come with a quieter more isolated vibe.
counterpoints:
1. I listed Porter only, but other monkeys appear in a similar way to the dodos
2. I am only comparing characters at launch. I'm not saying that new horizons is permanently worse, rather that it is finally roughly caught up to the baseline
3. I chose to compare to GameCube because it came out in 2002. The fact that it has any lead at all is embarrassing. Here are the characters from New Leaf, again barring holiday-specific ones

I’m reminded why I love and hate Mario party at the same time. Had one of the most unluckiest games so far, lost half of my coins to bowser(had around a hundred), had a Star stolen twice, had bad rolls all around. Only won really due to the bonus stars and getting them.

This is the Mario Party I remember. This game is much better than Super
I totally get you. In the last game, I had three stars, all bought. But Rosalina found two hidden stars and got both bonus stars and won the game. Total bullshit.

I love it.

No surprise but Mario Party is #1 on the e-shop in NA

I think it’s gonna do great long term. Don’t know how it will do compare to Super, but reception is positive

Hm just remembered I still haven’t played my copy of railroad empires

This just feels in the perfect place to get updates and dlc too

Mario party at its finest. Glad a true to form Mario party game is back. Super was a step in the right direction but I didn’t like the forced motion controls in the end

Does anyone like the Polterkitty sections in LM3? They’re universally hated, ritht?

They really drag down my enjoyment of the game. Nothing against backtracking, I usually like that if it’s well done, but in LM3 it’s awful imo. They’re just there to extend the length of the game without actually creating any new content. I also really dislike the Toad in the basement section of the game as well since it’s sooo slow compared to the rest of the game.

It’s a good game, but those sections keep it from being great imo.

I don’t hate them, they’re just a fun little whatever to bring you back through an area

but I also don’t understand all the hate around the concept of “backtracking” unless it’s somehow extremely tedious and unfun, which… hasn’t happened to me in a game yet tbh

I think the only time backtracking became an issue for me was when i was playing Skyward Sword for the second time, the padding was clear and it got me a little annoyed. But it's usually not big of a deal for me. It's hard to find a single adventure game with no backtracking at all, and it can become a good gameplay/plot device if properly managed.

I need to sketch out how I plan to change my island layout so that I actually commit and go ahead with it.
This is what I’m doing. Once I know the update a little better, I will be mapping everything out. Don’t want to commit too early though before knowing if we could do outdoor decorating like in the DLC.

My N64 controller has been shipped as of tonight!

I don't have the expansion pass and don't know if I'll ever get it.

...I think I'm part of the problem.

I just got to the basement and I totally forgot about what you put in spoiler tags. God.

And then at the end of it you’ve got that terrible boss fight in the duck floaty.

For a game I love so much, there sure is a lot that I hate about it.

Yes, this is how it should be. Full of bullshit and sometimes unforgiving. Hoping they continue this trend and give us new boards and later a Superstars 2.

Just did Ring Fit for the first time in way too long. Feels like that would be a perfect "random new game" for next year: Ring Fit 2, or some kind of big expansion, or something. It's been long enough.

I hope we get another 8-player Mario Party. I'm surprised Nintendo hasn't tried that again.

I would splurge on the new Mario Party but only 5 boards is pretty disappointing and they put in Peach's Cake, the worst MP1 board.

it's better to pay for something cool that you can have forever than pay 50 dollars a year for dumbass roms they can take from you whenever

you're far from the problem

Based on how gamers behave, it's easy to see why companies don't interact with the community that often. Gamers say they want transparency but often open discussion does little to satisfy them and it often gets employees harassed online.

This is exactly why they don’t say anything. And also, like why even make a statement about visual bugs in emulated n64 games. That is not worth taking the time to address because people are gonna latch onto it in bad faith anyway. It makes a lot more senses to just keep quiet and fix things it in a patch.

Sakurai literally admitted that they chose to keep the winner of the smash ballot a secret because even they know how toxic the general gaming community is and knew companies were gonna catch a ton of unwanted attention from terrible people.

I'm ready for Monday...

Yes; the NES, SNES, and Pro Controllers work fine wirelessly, but need special programs to work over USB. I believe all the reports that it connects but doesn't register inputs come from people trying it wired.

The Joy-Cons are weird; they work wirelessly but assume the sideways position, even mapping the stick to a dpad. This can be worked around with a program, similarly to using the other controllers wired.

Really? My Laptop keeps complaining about a pairing error with my pro controller when I try to connect it via Bluetooth.

USB however works fine (in the confinements of Steam).

Thank you for justifying my questionable decisions, my furry friend.

Now Amiibo? That's a whole other can of worms.

I have to mute the mic when MVG reads because I'm laughing the entire time. And the body wash is legit great. I ordered myself a few extra bottles.

We have thought about it but timing isn't usually on our side and the risk to copyright strikes sways me towards not doing them. I may attempt to do a livestream before the year concludes, though. Ideally, I'd love to do a live show a couple of times a month -- just chatting, answering questions. Kind of like a call-in radio show. Address a big topic of the day or week and then engage with the audience.

Right. The game, or plans for the game, existed but the release was never happening earlier than 2021 and that was pre-COVID days.
That sounds like a great idea!

I started playing AoC and the new expansion hasn't activated on my game. And I updated my game.

Anyone encountered this?
The same had happened to me. Go to the eshop page for the DLC then scroll down and select the page for the specific wave 2 pack. there should be an option to download it. at least that's how it was for me.

If it's still not working, I guess my only other advise is to start up another game and close out of it. Then try AoC. If not that, just keep opening and closing AoC until something happens. I think I had this issue with Smash before and it just randomly started working at some point.

Thanks, I had to go to the re-download part of the eshop to get it to work.

I’m VERY happy with the N64 controller. It feels exactly how I remember it. It’s honestly a super comfortable controller when you’re holding it right - as a kid I never knew you were supposed to hold the center and right prongs, so I’d hold both outside prongs and reach for the joystick with my thumb!

Sorry for the random off-topic but last night I made that picture of Orlando Pikmin Bloom and nobody said anything and I was kinda like "aww dang," but I just now sent it to a friend of mine who adores Orlando Bloom and she literally didn't know who it was at first because she says I picked a photo that doesn't look like him? Which baffles me.

Anyway just to put my mind at rest, could I get a show of hands from those of you who saw it, did yall even know who it was? 😅

Just poppin' in to say that the cinematography for Age of Calamity's DLC cutscenes are top notch. I could take screenshots and they look like they'd belong on a poster. Just ~mwah chef's kiss.

The battles are just okay, I think. Nothing earth-shattering yet. A couple of scenarios stand out to me (if only because the cinematography and events that led up to it were cool—One example being Daruk's surprise showdown with Sooga on Vah Rudania, overlooking Hyrule. Imagine if that were prefaced by a cutscene!). Only a couple vignettes have been a little lackluster so far, but the rest have been really interesting, in my opinion. One in particular broke me in a way I did not expect, though. And I'm sure you'll know which I'm talking about, if you've gotten three or four story missions in. ;_;

Age of Calamity is one of those games I own that I haven't played yet. I need to fix this...when I've got the free time to do so.

In other news, just got back from a vacation to Disneyland, and man, I can't help but wish there was an Epic Mickey remaster for the Switch.

I got it pretty much immediately, although I did have a split second of "who is that?"

is it weird to say that the backtracking in Skyward Sword literally doesn’t bother me at all? Like I don’t feel like it takes away from it? I also don’t feel like returning to old areas to do new things is “padding” but instead just something else in the game?

Like I love the fucking tadtones. It’s a unique gathering quest using the interesting motion swim mechanics, and those mechanics are greatly improved in the Switch version.

The only time I got a little annoyed was second half of The Messenger, But just because I accidentally went the wrong way and hadn’t figured out you could warp yet. So that’s more on me.

Like am I an outlier for this? It doesn’t bother me at all when there are different sections in a game that aren’t necessarily leaning into the games core strengths, or are taking you back through the areas that were painstakingly designed a couple times. Like I have fun with that shit. Am I out of touch?

I liked the tadtones section also. It was really awesome to see the forest flooded. In general I don’t think Skyward Sword deserves its reputation of being bloated and padded out, or at least I was having so much fun I didn’t notice the problems that everyone else did.

It's not weird, lots of people have wrong opinions!

I am kidding but also not really but also I am kidding

I actually completely agree with you, so you're not alone. At worst we're both out of touch. 😅

Nah, you aren't an outlier. The only backtracking that bothered me was getting that jug of water because there really wasn't much different done. Every other instance of going back to an old area introduced enough new things for me to enjoy it.

I saw it and laughed at it but I definitely used context clues to figure out it was him — perhaps a more distinct Orlando Bloom would have had more impact?

So who's more fun to play as in Castlevania Bloodlines? Whip guy or spear guy?
I like playing as Eric the spear guy, because most classic Castlevania games can be played with a whip guy. But I’m not sure which one would be considered objectively better, I just like hitting monsters in the face

Oh...I guess I already beat the story DLC for Age of Calamity...

Gah. The character interactions always leave me wanting more!! It happened when I got the true ending last year... It happened when I got the final DLC cutscene just now. Ah well. It was nice to get something new for this universe at all!

Does the framerate of the main game get better after the first level? I liked the gameplay but hated the tech side of things.

How long did the story DLC take you to beat?
