I have a very stupid implausible theory that will absolutely not happen and has no reason to happen and that is that foreman spike will somehow transform or become Wario in the movie or be a setup for the sequel.

Something else I noticed... there are aged up Toads here in this scene; the green and purple one;

Not quite Toadsworth, and definitely nothing like the diversity of Paper Mario and some other games like Mario Party 1, but it's something! And speaking of which, you can also see Toads with several skin tones!

Sadly, i don't think it's different skin tones but simply some shadows.

I demand every single Kong cameos in this movie regardless of how obscure or shit they are. This is the Kong family reunion I didn't know we needed

Don't know if this has been posted yet, but here's the trailer with the "correct" voices. Personally, I think especially Bowser sounds much better here, where the sound and resonance better matches the size of Bowser.

Bowser doesn’t even have dialogue in this. If I wanted all this I would just play the games. No thanks.

I hope in whatever upcoming Donkey Kong movie that gets made, they give every Kong a "Kong" name, even if it's very boring.

Diddy Kong
Dixie Kong
Chunky Kong
Larry Kong
Marcy Kong

This sounds so horrid, give me the voice actors from the movie any day.

One thing that WOULD be a very cool featuer for the BlueRay/DVD release of the movie... a edited version that has Charles Martinet voicing Mario (and Luigi) instead.
I do not mind him not voicing them, I fully get WHY, but, for a epic bonus feature, it would be very cool.
Tho most likely way too much work for just a bonus

The argument of Mario's regular voice not working for a full length movie doesn't hold any water, when we already got characters with so unhinged voices like Mickey Mouse, Scooby-Doo and SpongeBob getting their feature films and nothing was changed about them at all; -- Besides, Martinet has the range, and even if they wanted a more toned down version of the character, he'd be capable of doing. And I can tell, personally, that all the times Martinet did Mario's voice for long periods in conventions, interviews, commercials or the Nintendo NYC Store interactive pannels, it sounded perfectly fine. Fan montages with random unrelated voice clips from games won't ever do him justice...

The casting is just about starpower for Hollywood and nothing more; Which stings a lot more.

Sadly, i don't think it's different skin tones but simply some shadows.
I dunno.. some Toads are distinctly a bit more dark skinned close to others to me.. even when there are two or more together in the same light source;

I'd like to think Universal was more aware of this than Nintendo and pushed for diversity at least on that aspect.. but we'll see

These sound effects and voices work for the games.... No for a feature length film. That was never on the table, thankfully.

I dont think “correct” is the proper term here. Those voices are “correct” for the game. But i dont think they are right for a 90 minute movie where they need to communicate with eachother. Honestly, all the movie voices sound fine so far, i dont understand why people are so hung up on it

Those clips with edited in unrelated voice clips from the games never prove that Martinet couldn't have done it or that the voice wouldn't work (he obviously wouldn't be shouting his game quips the whole time). He has the acting skill and vocal range to pull off a toned down, nuanced voice.

I refuse to believe otherwise unless Martinet himself gives a reason as to why he couldn't. Honestly, same goes for the game VAs for the other characters, fine as I am with the movie voices for them.

Does anyone have that size chart of the characters? I think the link got taken down.

I found this one, but it's low res. Not sure if the original was the same.

The green fading into the yellow on Bowser’s scales is a really nice touch. I hope the games adopt that design.

By the way.. I noticed something on one of the leaked promotional material that should put an end on the New Donk City discussion;

It's an USA flag rolled up 🇺🇸;

Also, on DK Vine Kongversation, they pointed out that all the license plates on vehicles on the picutre are American (I wouldn't know, obviously)
That’s also literally the Brooklyn Bridge. They’d be somewhere in Dumbo in that shot.

TIL, in the japanese dub: The voice actor for Bowser is the same as Vector the Crocodile from the Sonic series and also the voice of Leongar in Kirby and the Forgotten Land The voice actor for Toad is the same as King Olly from Paper Mario: The Origami King

Here's another TV Spot with brand new scenes (better share before Universal takes it down!)

Gives context to the scene of Mario and Luigi on the weird wormhole (that's when they are traveling to the Mushroom Kingdom and how they get separated there). Also... sewers in Brooklyn!

Anyone here want to share their box office predictions?
I think this movie could genuinely gross $1 billion since it's a mix of a very well known franchise, celebrity voice actors, some Illumination movies have passed $1 billion dollars before too, and the current perception of the movie is very positive.

Toad is also the friggin King of Hearts, Domon Kashu from G Gundam, and that amused me to no end.

If that dude didn't destroy his voice with cigarette smoke, his range would be even more incredible than it already is.

Since Yoshis are present already (and maybe the green Yoshi will become part of the main cast for the sequel), Bowser Jr. and Rosalina are easy sequel bait characters imo;

Not sure if Wario, Waluigi and Daisy got the same hook

I wonder if some will think Rosalina is a Elsa rip off.

That was a common thing in my surroundings for a bit lol. Nothing serious but funny to see that back then. And I could easily see why some folks thought that
My young cousin, when playing Smash Ultimate, kept saying "I want to be Elsa" and she would ask for help in how to control Rosalin- I MEAN ELSA properly.
On the Luma topic, if the movie has the Power Stars as a McGuffin I presume the Lumas might appear as a stand-in for Star Spirits of sorts. Everyone already kinda headcanons them as the same thing as the star spirits that appear in the Mario RPGs so might as well make that logical leap in the film.

Come to think of it, Rosalina’s stage in Mario Kart 7 was an ice track….

My niece would call her Elsa anytime I played Smash.
