... I see peeple discussing the state of the game and Gamefreak rushing their products and I just hope I'll discover a weird thing in these new games similar to how Missingno happened all that time back, that feeling alone is worth it and I wish there were more interesting glitches in modern games like they were interesting and mysterious back then.

I’m not sure if I agree - in fact I’m pretty sure I don’t - but this is the freshest take I’ve seen today.

Haha no agreement neccesarry, I think it's just because toying around and doing my own thing is what makes games interesting and fun to me.

Ask me for a top 10 and it will all be games where I can do stuff the way I want in what are basically always Sandboxes and Platformers.

Gliches or bugs feel special because a bug can become its own story without it ever being intended so by the developer, anything goes. It's the perfect and most intimate chaos there is to be found and if the wording sounds weird it's because I can't find the right words to express it.

It's like playing with Lego's but combining other, different kind of toys with it. It could lead to something very personal.

-- Continuing on that thought for this game I'm positive this Pokémon can be a completely different experience because we're in an open world now, we can make our own story there. Let's see where the bounds are.

I didn't watch the trailer, but I don't care about how the game looks, it looks good enough to me. Legends looked good enough and this is better.

I only care that the game is fun and more involved than walking in a straight line like previous gens, which it looks like it is. I wish the overworld offered more options to interact like Legends did, but at least theyre on the right path.

I'm preeeetty sure I'll feel fucking ecstatic like a 10yo boy again when I first step into the open world and be able to go explore to my heart's content. Pokémon was made for open world, this is the huge moment I was waiting for.

Overall I like the QoL features brought over from PLA:
  • No need to spam A to skip battle dialogues
  • Throw mons in the wild to let them do menial works
  • Overworld battlefield
But I wished they show wild mons moving around more in the wild. PLA really let them shine when each has its own schedule and behavior.
Also I actually really like the paintedly artstyle SV is going for. It's however too flat at the moment due to lack of shadows. Music is fire as usual. Also one-time usable TMs are more bearable now at least since materials can be easily collected by habitually throwing party mons out all the time lol. The Team Star base raid shows shortcut buttons to send mons out, hope that they remain when running in the overworld.

Game looks rough but at least some of it seems to be the weird YouTube compression, at least to me. But I really wish they would give these games darker, more vibrant colors. Everything looks faded and washed out to me, and Arceus had a similar problem. I think Sw/Sh looked significantly better.

Overall though I’m still very excited about this game, mostly due to the new Pokémon. I can forgive a lot for a good roster of new mons, and even though they’re being extremely conservative with reveals, just from leaks there’s so much good stuff coming.

I think that's just the lack of shadowing and light occlusion. It gives everything a diffuse look. No light baking and low res shadow maps make all this feel like a symptom of memory management problems

I watched the trailer half way through and liked what I saw except that it doesn't have legends seamless battle transition.
?
The very first encounter of the new trailer with a wild Lechonk shows it has no transition/cut between exploration and battle, which btw pretty much confirms that shiny Pokémon will appear directly on the overworld (like Arceus).
Unless you're talking about special terastal Pokémon like the Jigglypuff a bit later, which are maybe a different case.

I wish, at least with the next console, we get again to that moment I lived with Sun/Moon where I loved both the game itself and it's presentation. This one looks really fun, but I dislike both the art style (too plastic-y) and the more technical side. At least Legends Arceus had an art style that sometimes made up for the rest, and I found myself taking several screenshots just because I loved what I was seeing. Im from Spain but Im 0 excited about the region itself (I will eat my words if they do incorporate the Alhambra palace in some way and it actually looks nice, that Sagrada Familia-like building is not doing it for me). It would be cool if they dropped the western world for a while, it's been too many generations already!

Losing those pixel art icons for the pokemon also made me a little sad, but I'll get used to that.

At least the game will surely be fun, and I like all the changes to the overall game design, the different paths and all of that. It's just the visual side (art style, region inspiration, visual fidelity) that I find a real downer. Maybe with more powerful hardware they'll have an easier time making something more visually beautiful!

that's not a problem new hardware can solve. GF just needs to step up on the technical side of things. brute forcing it is just gonna create problems in the future

I hope new icons like this, which seem to be similar to BDSP icons btw, now have a proper shiny version.

I will never understand why they didn't run with the let's go artstyle. still the only good looking switch pokemon game

also can we see more new pokemon instead of your terrible fucking copy-paste grass tech. ffs

I hate the Let's Go artstyle. it's so sterile and plasticine. like a hospital

I really think that Gen 10 should have a 4 year dev cycle, with their smaller team doing whatever Scarlet/Violet DLC they want. Would line up perfectly to have it out for the 30th anniversary, and you can get ILCA to make another remake with hopefully more dev time than they got for BDSP if you really need a game between then. I think that extra time for polish would really benefit them - it's okay to get a longer generation if the games end up stronger for it.

I'm sorry in advance if the Unova remake is bad.

You like games the way I like software libraries (after years of doing everything I can in a game I eventually get really into pushing its limits and breaking it)

Good lord, Let's Go was a good looking game.

No joke, I hope it goes down in history as a bright moment in the 3D Pokemon era

Because most of the players hated LGPE and most of the fan loved SNAP artstyle, so this is what we got

Interestingly I think a lot of screenshots I’ve seen look significantly better, so maybe it’s part YouTube compression/part outdated build for the US trailers? I’ll be interested to see what the final game looks like here very soon.

I wouldn't be surprised if the US build was older. The game run better on the JP trailer for instance.

youtube compression doesn't remove shadows and ambient shading. what little I've seen of the JP video, it looks the same outside of some color differences and smoother animation

I still wish Game Freak had a bit more power to play with, not because I think they'd make the best use of it, but because they aren't far off from me really loving their output. By my tastes everything they've shown is a big leap over Sword Shield.

Guys, I found out about a very interesting discovery. Seems like Drowsy replaced Sleep in Gen 9 too. So maybe Frostbite will be back to. You can see Farigiraf attacking while Sleeping without using Sleep Talk or something like that.

If the other switch games are anything to go by, this artstyle will only stay for SV and the next game will look really different

Sounds good to me. Sleeping and Frozen were always shitty statuses.

Please God be true, and make a new will o wisp for ice!

And change stealth rock to PLA mechanics lol

No idea if I am late to the party but at 9:34 there is a new Pokemon on the left side of the screen hidden between the text!

at first glance I thought that Pokemon had a Tom and Jerry Steak on its back.

There's another screenshot I saw where the full name of the status was "Asleep," but (potential copium warning) maybe they just changed the name of drowsy while keeping the mechanics

One thing that makes me more meh about a lot of the new gimmicks and such they show.. is the difficulty
Making sandwiches, as ugly as the textures are, could be fun. Petting and washing mons, too. And having them follow you around.
But
I believe all or at least most of those things, powers up your mon, right?
I have seen the DP remake clips, I do not want my mons to have 'unfair' advantages and not failt due to pure friendlyness. Along with them probably gaining experience by doing all these individual things.
I really, really wish they'd allow SOME form of difficulty. I know people are probably tired of hearing it by now, but ugh, screw mandatory exp share :/

with three quest lines, it sounds like it's gonna be even easier to be overleveled, exp-share or not. do the other quest lines before the gym battles and you'll be post-game tier before getting a single badge. and I don't have faith that GF kept this in mind

oh yeah
With the 3 Routes being 'do whatever you want in whatever order you want', how in hell are they gonna make them... balanced.
Like
Should you just... start over with a low leveled team once you are done with one of them? I do nto wanna do that, it's like restarting the same game 3 times just to not make it a button-press simulator, which it might already be.

I've kind of given up on getting any sort of engaging gameplay or challenge from Pokemon campaigns, I just put on a podcast/music and blew through the single player content so I can start working on teams when I eventually did play SwSh, will probably end up playing these games like that as well. The singleplayer is mostly designed for the people who just want to collect all the mons which is fine because I assume that's the majority.

already we know collecting all the mons won't be as engaging as Pokemon Legends. the least they can do is offer up a lot of non-battling quests and stuff. interesting character quests and lore quests that makes you criss-cross the map, mini-games with progressing rewards, hidden locations to find like caves and shit. you're making a whole-ass open region, make use of it

I hope they make use of the space and have a bunch of caves, forests and hidden areas to find Pokemon in, that's the least they can do with this sort of game. If it's mostly open fields and mountains I'd be disappointed and consider the whole open world angle to be a waste.

I actually feel like USUM was a pretty sweet spot for difficulty (although I was using underpowered Pokemon and turned off EXP Share to amp things up a bit). I mean in general too, not just Ultra Necrozma. I wish they'd hit that level again. Romhacks and fangames have solved this in various ways already, like actual difficulty options, challenge modes and level cap options. I don't expect GF to go to that effort, but Challenge Mode available from the start would be nice.

I tend to make and stick to a team fairly solidly for a playthrough but I'm thinking here I might chop and change a lot more so maybe I can mitigate the levelling a bit.

Moderately hot take: I prefer open fields and mountains to caves and other linear zones. I don't play an open world game for the closed off segments

Do you think SV having DLC will be as controversial as SwSh having DLC?
It won't be controversial at all IMO.

I prefer a balance. An open world that's just ..open gets dull, especially when there's no vistas or anything to look at which GF can't really offer. It also just automatically kills any enjoyable exploration and makes it so the world has no character, which was PLA's biggest problem to me. I want some nooks and crannies, BotW is quite open but it still has deeper ravines, rivers that flow into mountains, some caves here and there, ruins to explore etc.

I don't remember controversy about SwSh having DLC instead of a third version. Just a chorus of lukewarm "yeah, makes sense to do it that way these day" takes.

The controversies were about debit, many had and some still do, that you had to get the dlc in order to get the returning Pokemon.
Also that people felt SwSh was unfinished and was locking content behind a pay wall.
