This is a weird post in a thread called “Nintendo Direct Speculation.”

This thread is for the summer Nintendo Direct. People are already looking far to the future when we haven't even had the one that is apparently coming in two weeks.

And for as long as these threads have been going on, people have been looking for some mathematical equation for when the next Direct can be. If Direct is later by two weeks than normal, then the one in September must be delayed by two weeks as well. No, it doesn't work like that. Dates are chosen because of internal factors at Nintendo, not because it has to adhere some made up rules by people on the internet.

You might just want to use the Ignore Thread button friend because there's a long two weeks ahead

Yeah but that's no fun. Plenty of people in here have also been speculating about the games that could show up in 2 weeks -- it's not like we all just moved on

I still think StarTropics is one of the top 5 NES games. Better than either Zelda, by a mile.

Nothing will beat SMB3 though.

So... What's everyone's guess on the big Square reveal in this Direct? Final Fantasy IX remake or a new Mana game? Or something else entirely?

We also have remasters for FF Tactics and Tactics Ogre, should be coming this year.
I hope it’a the remasters of FF Tactics and Tactics Ogre, I really want to play those games!!

Also… I hope something from team Asano… maybe a new Bravely ❤️

I genuinely don’t understand how some people can show aggression towards kind and thoughtful people who share information that fuels excitement and conversation
i'll tell you why. The people who are hostile are gigantic entitled babies. They want things when they want them and thats it. If its even 3 seconds later than expected their life turns to garbage. People over the age of 2 years old should not be acting like this.

Agreed on SMB3. It's so far above everything else on the NES that it feels like it comes from a different console.

As for StarTropics, I didn't like it to the point I would put it in my NES Top 5. And I also prefer Zelda over it, but it is a good choice. My "strange" pick for an NES Top 5 is Crystalis. That thing is awesome.

Nintendo seems to love to show SE remasters so FF Tactics and/or Tactics Ogre seem like an easy bet but they've also highlighted Mana stuff. FFIX would be a pretty big get depending on how big the budget for it is. My guess is from most to least likely:

1. FFT/TO
2. New Mana
3. New title
4. FFIX remake

Why would I ignore this thread?

I think it's fine to have light hearted fun but I don't think it's fun for certain people. They take the pattern stuff very seriously. We have already seen people getting bent out of shape because they have to wait two whole weeks longer than usual. People make assumptions about when a Direct is happening based on some imaginary patterns that they see and when it doesn't come to fruition, they get upset and overly anxious about it.

If I get Metroid Prime HD, a BOTW 2 trailer with the title reveal (doesn't even have to be the specific release date), and one of the following:

DK
Mario
GB/GBC/GBA on NSO
Pikmin
Prime 4
2D Zelda

Then I think the Direct is better than Xbox's showcase. Honestly, even just a Bayo 3 locked-in date coming in 2022 would probably do it for me since Xbox's 2022 is so barren. Starfield looks awesome though

Square making an HD2D remake of A Link to the Past would be my dream come true, but realistically, I think an FF9 remake is very likely.

From Square Enix I'd accept any of the following.

Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters
Dragon Quest Treasures
Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake
The new Mana game
Tactics Ogre remaster
Final Fantasy Tactics remaster

I'm not expecting that rumored Final Fantasy IX remake to be on Switch.

Chrono Trigger

The Direct is in late June so when they record the Zelda segment the day before the Direct, Aonuma will have his classic hair back,
Omg that's why the Direct is later than usual!! None of this "get outta the way of SGF" nonsense, they're just waiting for Aonuma's hair to grow back out!

Alright folks, I haven't had a chance to read through every reply quite yet, but I didn't want to leave you hanging. With 22 unique replies (thanks to @bellydrum for making this easy for me by pulling a list of the replies!)... we've got a winner (selected randomly to keep things fair)!

Congratulations @Bobo! Funny enough the first reply and you won, I'll DM ya the eShop code later this afternoon. Enjoy!
Woah thank you so much! I appreciate you and I appreciate having this space to discuss things that we all love.

I don't think we get anything on BOTW 2 in this direct, I would be happy to be wrong though.

I think this rumored FF9 remake will be low budget one from the side studios, likely from Team Asano or Tokyo RPG Factory. A Bravely Default looking FF9 is the dream....
Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters
My guess is Square is planning 2DHD remakes for every Nintendo FF game instead of porting Pixel Remasters. If that's the case I'd have them start with 5 and 6, who never received remakes.

We should return to the good ole days where we got consistent gaming news on a monthly basis...in game magazines. If you weren't subscribed, I guess you aint seeing those sweet new Zelda screenshots.

I feel the opposite on BotW2. Think it’s perfectly positioned to once again be the closer for the show.

I feel the same way but also there is this part of me that says they have to show something or it's going to dominate the discussion like a dark shadow of hellfire on the direct lmfao.

Now if they have something like Mario to soften the blow of no BOTW2, then maybe they'll be fine.

But then you also get a cover with Toon Link on it and an outraged CELDA?! headline on the cover.

I feel the same except I was thinking of Metroid instead of Mario, I would be pretty happy to see something from Mario or even DK. I have a feeling the odds of seeing M+R: SoH are pretty solid.

I'd be really hyped for the FF pixel remasters on Switch. As for BOTW2, i hope that the game only shows up if it's a meaningful segment, with gameplay, title reveal etc. If it's just another teaser, it's best not to show it at all.

The entirety of this should appear so that I can be a crybaby about the number of JPRGs and not enough time etcetera and so on until the end of time.

That tip for breathing better sounds great, and I'm not familiar with it so please feel free to share! Thank you!

Glad your attacks have calmed down since puberty. Mine too, definitely.

iSTLEHG.png

See that soft part of the neck? Use any finger and apply semi-hard pressure diagonally down. It won't help you breathe 100%, but it does make it maybe like 20% better in most cases. The only problem is that you won't be able to keep applying pressure for too long because eventually it's going to hurt. So, release, take a break, and re-apply.

Bear in mind that this is for when you're having difficulty breathing and not for when you're having an actual I'm-going-to-die attack.

Additionally, if you live near the ocean, breathing in the ocean air also helps out a lot. I dunno why. Many nights when I couldn't sleep, because I couldn't breathe and I had that annoying whistling sound coming out of my lungs, my father would drive me to the pier to breathe in the ocean air and that helped each time.

It's fun seeing the 'what if no Zelda' vibe because, like a mischievious trickster spirit, my Direct predictions were going to elevate from 'no Zelda ports' to 'no Zelda AT ALL'... but the balm to this would be the Direct closing with new mainline Mario.

2003-2007 era E3 was so cool. Waiting until the middle of the month (for me at least) and then get this enormous batch of info dumped in your mailbox with countless stories about long lines, sweaty show floors and promising previews. The hype, the romance, the fire. Nintendo Revolution. DS. Reggie. Wanda and the Colossus. Miyamoto on stage holding a sword and shield. Motorstorm. Love, sadness, tears. Hamburgers.

Not to mention quotes like "When you will see the graphics of Nintendo Revolution, you will say Wow!", or "Have you seen the space banana?", or "I'm crying. I'm actually crying tears of rage. I can't believe that awful Nickelodeon character is going to be the next hero in the upcoming Zelda game. What the fuck, Nintendo. You've ruined my life."

EDIT: Okay, I just have to post the space banana. For people who were not around back then, this was almost the PlayStation 3 controller.

In terms of activity at Intelligent Systems, it makes sense that at least one of these two rumoured games would have heavy involvement from KT. It's possible the Three Houses team was reassembled - same lead staff from IS, some of the same studios from KT - but with extra assistance from Gust. It's not unreasonable we're looking at a bigger budget production this time out.

It's also feasible that alongside that, Intelligent Systems do now have the resources to develop their own remake, presumably with some outsourcing to contractors. With Origami King wrapping up in spring 2020 and WarioWare launching in 2021, a lot of IS staff would've been freed up over that 12 month period. Perhaps they joined the leads of Shadows Of Valentia, who haven't cropped up for a while, and an FE4 remake finally entered full production.
Ehh, I dunno, we'll see, I guess. I think my big issue with the 3H team developing the next game again (besides the info from Emily of this game seemingly being developed at IS) is that it would be a pretty quick turnaround, especially if we assume it's gonna be more ambitious and higher budget, and especially given the fact that KT (albeit technically a different team) was also busy developing a seemingly huge and ambitious Warriors spinoff based on 3H. Then you get to the info on how this game is complete or almost complete (which has been said since at least February) and the fact 3H itself was delayed twice, and it just seems a bit too quick imo.

In addition, iirc Emily also said back in February that this game had been in development at IS for over three years, which would not only place the beginning of its development at minimum five months before 3H released (and since it was delayed from Spring to July, I assume KT wasn't finished with its development yet?), but imo make a lot more sense than another 3H situation as to how mainline FE had a relatively quick turnaround despite 3H's delays, HD development time, Three Hopes being a thing, and potential Covid delays. And if we assume that the remake is coming at least one year after the new game, then IS may have just started development on it later, after they had already spent a lot of time on the new game's development.

This June Direct had better reveal the next FE or I'm gonna lose it lol

I think there is a good chance for Zelda ports or even a new 2d Zelda in this Direct, I just feel like with BOTW2 the wait is going to be until the September direct, TGS or at least TGA for another look at the game, again I would be happy to be wrong.

Honestly I'm usually a cynical fuck but I just can't abide by the idea that BotW2 isn't gonna show up here.

It's Nintendo's only confirmed 2023 game at this point (with a 'Spring 2023 timeframe at that) and they've already had to apologise multiple times for it not showing up/getting delayed.

The new Saga game seems to be a safe bet, it makes sense to unveil the remaster before and then to announce the new game in a more important event.
I think FF9R is this fiscal year's Final Fantasy and they didn't reveal it in the last state of play.. it feels like a Nintendo direct's announcement, I'm not expecting something jawbreaking tho.

E3 2004 is when I started paying attention to E3 the day of. We just got high speed internet a few months prior. Before that it was dial up so most of my game news came from EGM and reading my friend's Nintendo Power. It was definitely a different time. Heck, back then E3 was really the only big dump of gaming news for the year. We didn't have monthly or quarterly presentations. What came out of E3 would have to sustain you for months.

Saga seems like a less safer bet now that the remaster of Minstrel Song is slated to release this fall. The new Saga should get revealed closer to its release or after that.

Three Houses was in full production around 2 years (concept development goes back to 2015), so 3 years ish for another game (assuming development is wrapping up in the next few months) doesn't seem far off base from where I'm standing. Equally, I don't think the production of a Warriors game has anything to do with how far along a mainline FE would be with KT; like you say, different studios would be involved. Again, we'd have to tie some of this to the pandemic: whenever these games wrap up and release likely isn't in line with the original schedule Nintendo had in mind, so they may just end up with several Fire Emblem projects ready in close succession. They weren't afraid to drop Heroes, Echoes, and Warriors all in 2017, after all, so they and IS are happy to give the series exposure.

It certainly is a riddle, though. I'd love to see what's next for Fire Emblem later this month.

Yeah... I can't see Zelda missing the direct either. It would overshadow the whole presentation. If they really don't share a new Zelda trailer they will acknowledge its absence beforehand like in 2015. At least I would hope so.

I'm just thinking of that habit in the past where Nintendo will happily skip a game out of Directs even after just showing footage or announcing it: e.g. Luigi's Mansion 3 and Animal Crossing skipping the February 2019 Direct after their announcement the previous September; or more recently, Bayonetta 3 skipping February 2022 after finally turning up in the September 2021 Direct. There are probably some other examples.

That being said, I don't think Nintendo would hang on to Zelda and keep it out of view unless they had something else huge to announce this Direct.

edit - now I think about it, though, have we had Zelda in a Direct since June 2021?

Tbh I'd prefer a Zelda 2D remakes to WW/TP HD...
We already got SS HD as a Zelda 3D remaster and we will get BotW2 next year. I miss my Zelda 2D.
On the same boat. WW and TP feels like they need more time between their last release.

Would prefer a 2D Zelda this year , it would also be more exciting
