Koraidon has like 2-3 design elements too many, otherwise it'd look really cool. Prefer Miraidon for now but I might change my mind once I see it in-game.

Ohhh okay so Turo is from "futuro" and Sada probably from "pasado", they obvs couldn't go with "Sado"

The technical implementation is really, really poor. Yes I know not final yes I know the scope of pokemon games etc. But if what Serebii likes to say is true and the games are just doing great in regards to budget, staff, and time, then I really don't have any answers as to why they look like this. The Switch is not that underpowered. The texture resolution and especially the shadow resolution looks below even arceus at times, and the depth of field effect is really low res as well. They don't always look this bad, but these shadows...
as long as they still roll their own engine, don't expect much from them

as for shadows, hope they add ray tracing next gen

I so hope that the catching mechanics and battling have gone back to pre Legends, because as someone with dyspraxia was way too difficult for me and I would so prefer that the throwing of the poke ball and throwing of ur Pokemon is done automatically because that would make the game actually enjoyable for me and not frustratingly difficult.

Still no details on the game's structure, so I am going to hold back from being excited about how open-world this is for now. But I liked what I saw overall.

For people worried it won't have Arceus catching mechanics (a group in which I am included), wasn't there a part of the trailer that implied catching without battling will be an option? Or did I see things that weren't there?

Pretty interesting trailer and info tidbits.

Biggest question after this is how exactly this game is going to function as an "open world" (progress not limited by story developments, if I'm understanding it right). I'd honestly be completely down for a Pokemon game that ditches the story and propels you forward simply off the back of "go get the 8 badges and challenge the League." Like, just set up a world, have a bunch of trainers and random activities to do at your own leisure and Pokemon to catch, challenge some gyms as you get strong enough by doing all the other stuff. I think the linear JRPG structure of Pokemon games worked and it worked well at one point, but one of my biggest issues with the games since X/Y is the amount of railroading and constant stoppages from annoying NPCs, so if the open world can quell that issue I'm open to it. Sword/Shield probably would have been better games if it didn't try to have a story, considering how badly it was handled in that game. Same could be said for X/Y honestly lol.

I have a number of concerns with the concept too, though. Primarily I'd be concerned about how they scale encounters in terms of difficulty. This is an aspect where I don't really trust Game Freak at all in the first place, considering how badly it was botched even when it was a fairly straightforward linear romp. I also have some concerns about the general world design and biomes. In this trailer there's little to be encouraged by in this regard. Everything looks pretty open and dull here, but it's also a short trailer 6 months out from release so I'll hope that it's not indicative of the entire game.

Overall I'm probably more optimistic than I was for Sword/Shield. I thought those games looked bad by the time the games released and I thought they lived up to these poor expectations after playing them. This time I'm not completely sold either way. Not sure how exactly Game Freak is going to realize an open-ended Pokemon game but still have some degree of hope they'll make it work somewhat.

New Pokemon designs are really good, too.

all we know is you're not locked down by story. so that implies that gyms can be taken in any order

Scarlet Professor and Violet legendary are locked in a battle for my soul, but my heart belongs to The Chonk.

God DAMNIT I want Scarlet for that cool ass legendary, but Violet has the hot daddy professor 😩 This is not how I thought Pride was gonna go

My mirror version self!

Interesting that it seems to be have less linear exploration! Curious about how catching works, they briefly showed a player sneaking

Liked both legendaries but I think I'm going with Violet

Honestly the more I look at the trailer the more I notice a couple things being regressed from PLA that I’m not a fan of. TBH this trailer is getting me turned off than excited for this game.

1. The legendaries look the best in a long time
2. THE PROFESSORS ARE HOT. HELP. LMAO
3. Your friend looks rad (character design in general is great imo)
4. Online 4 Player Co Op
5. LECHONK

All I’m saying is, I’m ready for November 18th!

Because they’re flying mechs
Finally, the Xenoblade x Pokémon crossover I was expecting

So outside of "Daddy", the other thing coming to mind when looking at the in-game model is the resemblance to Gerard Pique
🥴
Holy shit, THANKS. Since I saw the trailer, I was like "he reminds me of someone" but couldn't remember who

Looks cool - though if you have to battle every Pokemon it's going to be hard to go back from just chucking Pokeballs like you can in Arceus.

I have to say that the Scarlet legendary is really growing on me, I'm going all in on that version.

we haven't seen battles completely, but they're pretty similar to Legends so far
It’s actually super vague so we can’t say one way or the other about seamless battles. But they did show was looks like a Pokémon animation that appears to play after a battle transition, which to me implies seamless battles are out.

I'm sorry but this looks like a step back from legends. Cold catching is gone and it even seems like battle transitions might be back, not to mention all the other amazing pla mechanics ( pokemon being able to attack you etc). Looks like it all might be gone. Essentially just looks like an open world sword/shield to me.
Good. Keep all that ARPG stuff in a Legends subseries. We don’t know if battle transitions are gone, but they take place in the overworld like Legends which is all I really wanted. But stuff like Pokémon attacking you really doesn’t need to come back for a Pokémon game set in the modern day when Pokémon are no longer known as “dangerous creatures”. Same thing goes for crafting, which is definitely gone in a world with gas stations lol.

If playing like a Pokémon game makes it “Open World Sword and Shield” then I’ll take it lol. Legends was fun for a kind of Scarlet/Violet tech demo but I would be fine if a lot of it’s changes never came back, specifically the ones to the Pokédex and the battle system.

Cool that they seem to have kept some of the improvements to the formula that Arceus brought (unless they added back the transitions which would be a major downgrade).

Hope the games is better polished towards release.

Hm, didn't notice a transition like that. Most of the intro-to-battle animations we saw (the zoom on the Pokemon's face with a roar/squeak/what have you) was pretty in line with PLA's battle transition

Pokémon attacking you was hardly ever an actual threat. That element doesn’t need to be here. But if everything else from PLA really is stripped out and SV are just “SwSh but open world” I’m going to be incredibly disappointed.

This isn't necessarily positive or negative for me, but I don't really see much of Legends Arceus in Scarlet/Violet. I'll again reiterate that this feels more like the natural evolution of ideas like the Wild Area, the Isle of Armour, and the Crown Tundra. Big, open areas that you can explore at your leisure with a traditional Pokémon game loop. This isn't going to be an action game, this isn't going to be a game where catching multiple of the same Pokémon is a crucial part of the game loop, and this isn't going to have Legend Arceus' different battle system and stats and most of its mechanics. It's going to be classic Pokémon but in an open world, which as someone who liked Legends Arceus but didn't want all the games to be Legends Arceus suits me just fine.

Past and future thing is interesting, curious to see how they'll handle that.

I hate every design except the female trainer and the female professor a little bit, she's a 10/10. The Legendaries look like cool digimon. I'm going Scarlet 100%, though I feel they haven't shown enough to get me hyped more. We're finally getting true open world design which was needed.

Don't like the new artstyle, especially those professors look out of place.

were at? because all the battles took place in the immediate world. there might be a transition to mask deloading though

it does play into the idea that Legends was an offshoot of the design for SV

I just noticed that following pokemon are back. good change after Legends

Yeah but I don’t really want to be dodge rolling and throwing rocks in a Pokémon game. Again, that stuff is fine, just keep it in a subseries. I think a good chunk of Legends stuff will come over, we already know that overworld battles are back, and my guess is that evolutions being triggered manually and movesets being swapped anywhere from Legends will return, as those would benefit the mainline games. But all of that “catch 10 Pikachu and see them use thundershock 20 times for dex completion” and ARPG Noble Pokemon battle BS can go.

Just the option to cold catch at least woulda been nice, or hell at least the ability to throw our own pokemon next to things like wild pokemon. Just running straight into creatures again is weird imo.

Probably mentioned already but the trainer who looks like she’s about to challenge you in the trailer, mentions ‘are you the trainer of these three’ does this hint that we may get all 3 starters from the off?
I noticed that too. Maybe you start with all three but end up giving two to your rival/friend or whatever. Could be an interesting twist - I can't imagine you actually start out with all three and keep them.

Been waiting for full co-op in Pokemon ever since DPPt's underground and Dragon Quest IX, can't believe it's finally happening!

Since the game is nonlinear, I really hope that the bulk of the storytelling is focused on vignettes/self contained episodes like Majora's Mask or the Pokemon anime.

I don't much care for either legendary or professor, might be leaning toward Scarlet. Will need to see more version differences to decide for sure.

The player customization looks pretty sweet.

Lechonk and Smolive are both very appealing, as is Nemona.

I hope that cave is a proper dungeon.

A shame the Violet legendary looks dumb as shit cause I prefer Violet over Scarlet in terms of the name.

Am I misunderstanding the multiplayer feature? I figured more would be excited over that since it'll be the first time ever being able to play Pokemon with your friends properly right?

I'm glad the catching mechanic from Arceus is gone, I enjoyed it in that game but I want my traditional Pokemon game to be traditional.

Oh also those professors look proper weird, their faces are too realistic for the art style or something.

PLA did include actual, like, battles. you could even catch wild Pokémon during them

interacting with wild Pokémon outside of battle isn't exclusive with traditional mechanics. one thing I think PLA did really well was giving players the option to engage with wild Pokémon using either overworld mechanics or in-battle mechanics
If the pig’s name wasn’t lechonk would people still like it
no
