Is it common to hire writers for projects far along in development?
It can only mean that retro hasnt started mp4 yetIs it common to hire writers for projects far along in development?
Retro is a small studio for such a big project like Prime 4 is , they have been contracting people like crazy in all positions including writers since 2019 I guess this is just case of them needing writers because one left or the writers they have need more help.Is it common to hire writers for projects far along in development?
/s, right??It can only mean that retro hasnt started mp4 yet
I think that's the case.Retro is a small studio for such a big project like Prime 4 is , they have been contracting people like crazy in all positions including writers since 2019 I guess this is just case of them needing writers because one left or the writers they have need more help.
Pizza was pretty good. Headache still there some but not as bad as earlierHow big were the cups?
Here's hoping the pizza will chase away the headache.
Look at my pfp, if i look purple to you its because im dead serious/s, right??
I wouldnt be so optimistic about the constant job offers when it comes to them affecting Prime 4 size because it seems to be just the usual in Nintendo studios case of expansion and is more Retro getting to the level that other studios like Monolith Soft have got. (Next Level Games is doing the same just less aggresive)I'm not going to lie, the constant Prime 4 job offers give me a lot of confidence in the project. This means that Nintendo believes in the game and that the initial vision is respected.
It seems to be one of Nintendo's biggest games (with botw and botw 2 I think)
Not very. 4 small cups gets you through a family meal, 4 large cups ruins your whole passover. How big were the cups?
GoldenEye did 130,000 in Japan — 2% compared to Japan’s 5.54 million N64s sold.Splatoon's success was predictable. 17/18 years before Goldeneye in the N64 outsold Ocarina of Time, so the public for shooters never really left Nintendo.
Would like a more traditional shooter from them. There is Prime 4 in the future which is more traditional than splatoon but not there yet. Would like something somewhat similar to goldeneye, would be shocked if it wasnt a success.
What’s your take on the socioeconomic ramifications of the currently high levels of inflation, and what — if any — CEOs’ knees are you gonna fucking break once your immigration stuff is handled since this faux-inflation-wave is driven by corporate greed and taking advantage of people in a pandemic instead of the genuine economic reflection, since not a one of them would be recording record profits if it was?I've had 2 beers, ask me anything
I didnt really try to say that the intent behind splatoon was to make a super successful ip, although i dont think it was an unpredictable success either, the scale of its success certainly was tho. If Ninty's intention was tocmake a super successful shooter theycprobably would have tried something a little more orthodox tho it wouldnt mix well with them for sure.GoldenEye did 130,000 in Japan — 2% compared to Japan’s 5.54 million N64s sold.
It was obviously a success in the US — with a much higher game to console ratio of ~40% — but I don’t feel like “the public for shooters never really left Nintendo” is quite right.
Like those left wanting more got Halo. They got GTA3. They got all these branching paths promising to cater to them and only them, and that cascaded into the western gaming industry as it stands today. Nothing about that says to me that those GoldenEye fans were just waiting for Nintendo to drop Splatoon, possibly the least predictable Nintendo success ever.
I don’t imagine Nintendo was at any point clamoring to recreate GoldenEye’s success — especially not when they focus hardest on what will do well in Japan, plus what will fulfill their paradigm and build their IP.
Being wrapped up in the western success of an incredibly expensive licensed property really doesn’t seem like how they think.
Splatoon’s wild success, like many things with Nintendo, stems from what makes it different, interesting, and fun — another Blue Ocean gambit. A shooter where shooting others is secondary. A team game where your contributions are unmoored from the standard team structure of groupshooty shenanigans. It plays into the street-art nature of its core with fashion and flare. It doesn’t think like a shooter. It’s a riff. And it’s about how the most people can have the most fun.
Nothing about Splatoon is predictable. It blew up on the Wii U! And it hit it big in Japan — not at all like GoldenEye. Because of what made it different. Not because it was the long-awaited Nintendo shooter risen from GoldenEye’s grave.
And for that reason, I don’t think we’ll ever see the fabled Nintendo Shooter you’re dreaming of. I think that game may be antithetical to their approach. And I’m not saying this because it’s my preference — which, frankly, it is — I just think it’s built into their approach, especially now.
Metroid Prime / Star Fox is probably as close as it gets — and Metroid Prime hasn’t historically lit Japan on fire. It works so well because it’s still an exploration adventure with powerups, secrets, and that perfect wonder / horror tension, and I really do believe that the shooting being divorced from real-world guns is part of its success, not its detriment.
But hey, maybe Star Fox will go full Furry Mass Effect as the wishful legends foretell. Either that or Star Fox Grand Prix actually exi—
Do it, my literal fav troid.I haven't replayed Metroid Prime 3 since it came out and I was 10 at the time lol. I should do a second playthrough.
I think that's the case.
The writing job is a contract position, fully remote. I don't think we can infer anything about MP4 from this position being open, but considering Retro's development history I would be surprised if they had a full-time staff writer to begin with. They've not shipped a game in a long time, and a lot of what might seem like "writing" to the outside world, like story breaking, is regularly done by producers, directors, and designers.I wouldnt be so optimistic about the constant job offers when it comes to them affecting Prime 4 size because it seems to be just the usual in Nintendo studios case of expansion and is more Retro getting to the level that other studios like Monolith Soft have got. From just Nintendo? Those are likely for sure, but I'd definitely also add DK64 to the list, and maybe Cruisin' USA.I am wondering, what do you guys think we’ll see announced for the wave 2 of NSO N64 in late May/early June?
1080, Excitebike, Mario Party 2 and Wave Race seem the most obvious first party stuff to me
And don’t give me the “there won’t be” response. Nintendo timed the current roadmap ending to coincide directly with their e3/summer direct in late May/early june
Wouldnt be the first time they hired a writer for mp4, but yeah i agree. If they do have someone we wouldnt know as of now.The writing job is a contract position, fully remote. Hm, I'm curious, where did you get those numbers from?GoldenEye did 130,000 in Japan — 2% compared to Japan’s 5.54 million N64s sold.
yes. what people don't realize is that writers are involved even with shit like "this is a barrel".Is it common to hire writers for projects far along in development?

so, WB, where's that Superman game?
I think Superman going bad can work. Eff stuff up.
He has a baddie phase in the comics, no?Found Zach Snyder's Famiboards account.
It is an interesting dynamic of EPD or any JP studio vs western hiring sprees. Usually when either Monolith or Intelligent systems (which is expanding) hire its more of a permanent position while retro and to a lesser extend NLG people leave after a specific projectI wouldnt be so optimistic about the constant job offers when it comes to them affecting Prime 4 size because it seems to be just the usual in Nintendo studios case of expansion and is more Retro getting to the level that other studios like Monolith Soft have got. I just meant those parts as a response to the idea that Splatoon’s success was predictable and the thing about Metroid 4 not being “there yet” compared to a hypothetical full-on shooter. I’m probably taking your post too literally, so no worries.I didnt really try to say that the intent behind splatoon was to make a super successful ip, although i dont think it was an unpredictable success either, the scale of its success certainly was tho. If Ninty's intention was tocmake a super successful shooter theycprobably would have tried something a little more orthodox tho it wouldnt mix well with them for sure.
That said, i still think that there is a sizable public for hardcore shooters at nintendo, ill admit that i was wrong when i said the shooter public didnt change at all because like someone else said earlier: if you wanted a great shooter nintendo wasnt your platform. Or my implication that splatoon's success was due to a hardcore crowd and not mostly casuals (though im sure there is a decent hardcore fanbase)
If Nintendo will do a true shooter again? Probably not. I wish. Although it would be filling a new genre for them and thats something they certainly enjoy, so i wont stop with my hopes, Japan liking it or not wouldnt matter in this situation imo, Nintendo has several ips that havent lit japan on fire and they continue to get made.
Also im not sure if i understood correctly what you said, but were you implying that i wish mp4 was a traditional shooter? Cause that couldnt be farther from the truth, Prime 4 is my most waited game of this gen lol.
Would certainly enjoy furry mass effect (ironically), but with nintendo seeing sf as a mere tech demo for their gimmicks i doubt. Who knows perhaps if prime 4 is a substantial change from usual metroid, is super well received they could try doing the same thing with other ips like kid icarus, star fox, etc
Dang, it did? That would certainly count as a deep dive, lol. I was only talking about the actual General Directs themselves, since that's all I watched back then, I didn't know about the treehouse. I mostly remember the September Direct because it was a LOT of info about the nations and areas and a lot of people complained about it being way too long and taking forever in the Direct.A bit late to reply to this, but E3 2017 had a 40 minute treehouse video showing off the combat and core crystal summoning. I'd say that absolutely counts as a deep dive. It gave a solid idea of all the combat mechanics except chain attacks/orb bursting which would be shown off in August - again, before September - at another 40-ish minute showcase at Gamescom.
By the time September rolled around, it was just a ten minute video of Gramps blathering on about warring nations and the gameplay part was just a recap of what we already saw in the treehouse video and gamescom stream.
Regardless of what counts or doesn't count as a deep dive, the point stands that Xenoblade 2 had 40 minutes worth of gameplay shown six months before release. Xenoblade 3 is five months from release and we haven't seen a single shot of the combat or any hint as to what customization/character building systems there'll be.
That isn't to say I think Xenoblade news is likely happening before June. Splatoon is coming sooner and still doesn't have a release month so if Nintendo wants to talk about a game before June, that'd be the one. I just think it's interesting that is the closest to release we've been to a new Xenoblade without knowing a single thing about the gameplay.
If the pandemic didnt shift things, I would have presume their marketing cycle would be similar to SwSh. So initial trailer, second trailer in april, summer direct and fall direct. But now idkI think the most we should expect is a silhouette from another Pokémon or something as incredibly tiny and insignificant as that. The game will probably be out in November, we won’t see anything of importance before the Summer direct, and even probably we won’t see much there but the big stuff will be in the September direct, a Pokemon Direct in October or November and the big marketing push that will be on full force since October.
Probably should scrub that post about the Dragon Ball or whatever anime date story to be safe.oh damn that's a really good idea I never thought of that
This is today? Hope you got some Frisco Freeze or a hot dog at Red Hot. Tacoma is much cooler than it’s reputation. Can Pacific Northwest weather just be normal for five minutes? Holy shit. I'm driving back to my hotel from Tacoma and it just starts hailing like crazy. The road was an absolute nightmare. Thank god there was a rest stop close by because I kept sliding on ice and I was trying so hard to keep calm.
It ends on the 17th. Not sure the time but either 9 AM Pacific or midnight pacific (I’m assuming the later as it’s ending on a weekend and not when the shop loads new games on Thursday).wait when exactly does that 3ds sega sale end
Then you get either Injustice or Superman Red SonWhat if Superman decided to kill everybody
Nah I'm proud of that shit.Probably should scrub that post about the Dragon Ball or whatever anime date story to be safe.
