i can't be the only person that is still mad that odyssey never got DLC for additional kingdoms like delfino isle, right?
If the next 3D Mario doesn't have a post-game unlockable Delfino Plaza and/or fully-explorable interconnected Delfino Island, they may as well just shut EPD 8 down and make them a Mario vs Donkey Kong support studio, and I'm only mostly joking

So Nintendo had a Partners direct now and Switch 2 was coming fall 2024. They had to delay the Switch 2 recently. It makes me think of the plan was to have Switch 2 in 2025 originally we would’ve gotten a general direct now. But it’s too late and they can’t change the partners direct.

Tbh if they really wanted to do a general I think they would've scrapped the partner, revised contractual obligations with partners to allow for shadow drops for all titles needed, and then do a general a few weeks later in March.
The fact that a partner is still on tells me nothing has happened to the Switch 2 reveal, honestly (even though it's now out in early 2025)

endless ocean is an extremely cool choice for a remaster and any one disputing this is of questionable moral fiber tbqh

In a time where investment in gaming is shrinking and funding is drying up everywhere for smaller projects, risk taking is non existent and everything is GaaS - Nintendo funding super niche stuff like Another Code and now possibly Endless Ocean gets a ton of my respect whether or not the games are for me or not
☝️☝️☝️

Going to have to be honest here. I could never get through Endless Ocean or its sequel. They bored me to absolute death. If I was having trouble sleeping, I knew just the cure for it so they did serve some purpose at least.

Omg, are you telling me it might actually be Endless Ocean??

Blue World was a random pick-up from Toys-R-Us that my mom got as an after-school surprise (I think it was probably on clearance). I didn’t play it a ton, but damn that game was a VIBE. Quiet and serene and almost melancholic? At least that’s how it was for my kid brain. I would absolutely be on board for a new release or a remake, just for a chance to recapture that weird little sliver of nostalgia hanging out in my brain :)

Experiencing the last week of Direct speculation as a Fromsoft-ian fragmentary narrative has been the best decision ever. I can tell it's all very serious and tragic, yet maintains a hint of levity while being ultimately inscrutable until someone makes an easily digestible 2 hour video explaining it to me in great detail.

🤣 This rules

not to get up on a soapbox but endless ocean was very key to opening my eyes to the beauty of the ocean and sea life to me as a kid. As a full blown ecological activist now I think any games that highlight marine life is really important and awesome. We often treat fish and other similar creatures as “lesser than” and having a game that showcases them and the beauty of the ocean could inspire a lot of people

  • Bandai Namco: Yashahime game reveal
    • ("Towa and the Guardians of the Sacred Tree" was recently trademarked, many are connecting it to Yashahime)
  • Moonglow Bay port
  • Pentiment port
    • (This could explain why Nintendo delayed the Direct from last week)
  • Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance
    • (rated in South Korea)
  • Too Kyo Games: Kazutaka Kodaka x Kotaro Uchikoshi 'Limit x Despair' project announce
  • UnderMine 2 announce
Aside from Pentiment, none of the games here sounds like Direct announcement.

  • Yasahime manga is just way too niche to be on Direct. Also I don't see Namco spending big money on this, could be a visual novel or even a mobile game.
  • Moonglow Bay is known to be coming to other platforms and it isn't big enough to be Direct indie announcement. Indies games in Directs tend to be the bigger stuff (scope wise), such as Gloomhaven, Sifu, Factorio or Horizon Chase 2.
  • SMT5 re-release sounds like a multiplat release. I don't think it warrant a Direct showing. Maybe at other platforms "Direct"s.
  • While they can surprise us, it's way too early for Too Kyo's next game. I expect it at June Direct at least.
  • UnderMine 2 is too small indie to be on a regular Direct. Indie World maybe.

Actual possibilities:

  • Asano also teased a game at new years message
  • Next Gust game
  • Next Nippon Ichi game (hoping for a new Rhapsody game)
  • Marvelous recent games (2 secret JRPG projects, Rune Factory 6 and Project Dragon, Daemon X Machina)
  • media.vision's secret 7 projects (one of them should be the next Digimon game other should be Summon Night 7)
  • Whatever Game Arts's been doing since Grandia remaster
  • Square remasters (SaGa Frontier 2 is one of them)
  • Namco remasters (Tales?)
  • Bigger indies (Dune Spice Wars, Against the Storm, The Raft)
  • Leaked but not yet announced games (Anno 1800, Humankind, Darkest Dungeon 2, Gotham Knights)

like one of those "The ____________ Iceberg" videos youtube keeps tryina get me to watch

Why Mini? When you add the 15 minutes of first party stuff to a 25 minutes of Partner Showcase, you'll get a full sized General Direct.
Because I doubt very much that they will add 15 minutes of firsts games. But if you add trailers for 2 or 3 games, you'll have a mini.

Trailers for at least 3 first party games easily exceed 10 minutes. I don't think this will be a mini either way.

With The Verge reiterating that Hi-Fi Rush and Pentiment are due to drop on Switch and PS5 this quarter, I see no reason why Hi-Fi Rush wouldn't be announced here as well

Pentiment, Hi-Fi Rush, Penny's Big Breakaway, Parkitect, and Endless Ocean 1/2 would be an amazing Partner Showcase to me. Not perfect, June 2022 was the only thing close to that, but definitely on the level of September 2020.

Frankly I'd be fine with all of the above if only because the line-up we had with the first two Partner Showcases were... abominable. Literally the only value that the original Partner Showcase had was reconfirming that SMTV existed, but the damage was already done by then.

I saw the Pyoro tweet whilst making a tea because British and my first thought wasn't "I wonder what he's teasing" but "I bet Familia's is melting down rn"

Endless Ocean is Metroid Prime-like in how atmospheric it is

the joy of encountering a whale shark, a group of dolphins, or sea turtles and just swimming alongside them

the terror of realizing you just swam over a trench so deep it is total blackness below you

the otherworldly feeling when you stumble upon some ancient ruins and the celtic woman starts playing right on cue

Immaculate Vibes

If we getting Pocket Jockey and Endless Ocean this legit might be better than some actual general directs.

Now imagine if Penny Big Breakway and/or Hi-Fi Rush is shadow dropped...

I think it's best to experience Direct Speculation as a Breath of the Wild type narrative where you show up after the calamity and you have to look through the memories to uncover what really happened.

Ok for the next trick I need Pyoro to ask if Koei Tecmo is a partner and then post this guy

What a ride loooooool I was definitely expecting something like it being a Partner + first party announcement at the end but Pyoro definitely loved watching everyone jump to Game Cube speculation when it's (probably) Endless Ocean.

I'm very happy for the fans and I'm excited to see how much of a graphical showcase it's gonna be.

Well, I'm a big fool but I still hope for a Nintendo Warriors game to appear 🥺 I think I should just give up on Buddy Mission BOND so it can happen eventually.

But I think that Pentiment and Hi-Fi Rush which are all but confirmed and hopefully SMT V Vengeance being a beefier thing like having a new story would make it a good showcase.

Endless Ocean feels very believable considering that's very much in line with what Nintendo's been doing lately (reaching far into their back catalog and wedging random super obscure/dead IPs like Another Code and Famicom Detective Club out of silence).
