what I want this year is for Buddy Mission Bond official western release

We are quickly running out of Switch games. Just have the Splatoon 3 DLC and Super Princess Peach left that has a date. If Nintendo was to release Paper Mario and Luigi's Mansion 3 shortly after then I would have to assume they will still have to announce a bunch of games for the second half of the year. Unless this is truly a dire year for software, I imagine we would likely get either a General Direct (March?) or a bunch of Twitter game announcements in the near future.

I fear this is the actual case, but hopefully that’s just pessimism. If we get a Partner this week, though, that doesn’t exactly bode well for the near future.

I think the tell will be if Paper Mario and Luigi's Mansion releases relatively soon. If those get dated and released before June then I think more announcements are coming. If Nintendo decides to hold them off until later in the year to stretch their games then maybe things aren't looking so hot. Hard to say.

I’m guessing April-May for LM2 and June for Paper Mario at this point, personally, but I’m not sure what that says for the year as a whole. I agree with another user who noted they might want PM deeper into this year just to put some distance between it and SMRPG.

It would be weird if Princess Peach's Showtime comes out next month and then there just isn't anything left for Switch (with a date). Like I have to imagine something is being prepared. I can't see Nintendo having nothing left but then again I would have said the same about Sony and we saw how that turned out so who knows lol.

If we keep this thread going after the Partner Showcase?

Yeah would beat that by a longshot. We'll beat that even before the Showcase.
Shenanigans might have to happen for this thread to reopen after the Partner happens like a rumor dropping of another show ahead of time or it being like ten minutes long or something. IIRC ST3 closed and reopened due to people asking for it which is how it got it’s absurd length, so I won’t say it can’t happen, but if we get a solid show this particular thread is probably done.

Everyone’s competing right now to see who can have the blankest slate, lmao. Trying to make people who say it’s a backlog kind of year as right as possible.

So far it does kind of feel like the entire industry is in a standoff to see who blinks first and actually dates a game beyond April.
It’s all just foreshadowing for next month when the entire industry consolidates into Nintonysoft and they all announce everything at once.

Beyond any particular game, this has been my biggest want across showcases and it just hasn’t happened. Really hoping we break the trend on Wednesday!

they're waiting for SaGa: Emerald Beyond to come out on April 25th so it doesn't kill off whatever other games they announce

note how hesitant Nintendo has been to have another Direct since they announced it in the last one and how they pushed the Switch 2 back to keep it as far away from it as possible

Honestly, with how late this report broke in comparison to the possible upcoming Partner Showcase, I do not really think it will be indicative of what the year will look like. I do feel like if it was a recent move to push the console to 2025, they are likely now working on what this year will look like but I do think this was probably a decision that was made early in January and by then, they had solidified the deals for games that would be featured in a Partner Showcase a month or two before then as well as probably a date for Luigi's Mansion 2 HD in the next two weeks. While I do think may they could have worked to form this into a normal Mini, it also may not be worth the effort when their holiday game is likely announced next week in the Pokémon Presents and they can maybe have an event in middle to late March (Maybe a Mini?) that dates games like Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door and announces one or two games releasing fairly soon. That would then bring them into May, when I am expecting the next General where they can announce a Mario Party and their larger(ish) October/November game.

While I do not think it will be the strongest year Nintendo has ever had, I do think with how they do have games ready, waiting for release, a couple of those games alongside a couple newer titles could work. I mean, they did sit on Fire Emblem: Engage for a while seemingly, so I think there is a chance there's a "new" game that has not been rumored that could also have been completed a little while ago that they are just holding onto and this would be a good year now to release it! Maybe I am being too overly optimistic about the situation though, haha! :D

I would say this year is going to be harrowing if they’re only now deciding what it’s going to look like, personally. They sit on games, for sure, but I think it remains to be seen just how willing they are to pull them out in case of “emergency.”

I get the desire to not commit to a date until you're ready, but this year feels especially bad about it so far. IIRC the latest dated game we have (probably not, but for games that are decently big) is Stellar Blade in late April?

True, I agree!! I'm mainly (well, hoping) going off the pretense that they knew this move was coming internally for a couple of months so they've had time to plan. I do think this move also probably indicates that the console was a later second half 2024 release initially so hopefully they already had some Nintendo Switch games planned for this year that they can now supplement with smaller titles and maybe one more larger surprise for the October/November timeframe! :D

True. If the console was originally slated for late this year, we may only be looking at a slightly leaner year than we would have had to begin with. It’s a little less bad when you look at it that way, haha.

Hellblade 2 is currently dated for May 21st, and Black Myth Wukong is apparently August 20th; neither of those are really looking like my thing but could probably end up being notable titles for the year

I think Stalker 2 is the furthest-out "big" game I've seen in terms of specific dates, currently targeting September 5th (though that one especially feels like it's been delayed so many times that it's hard to believe this is the date that sticks)

Yup! That's how I've been optimistically feeling this weekend! We are probably missing the major launch title the console and maybe the 1-2 Switch-equivalent launch title but hopefully they can still find a a game or two that can still slot into that gap. If Mario Party is something that has been planned for this year, I wouldn't be surprised if that now is the for sure October title with maybe a remake releasing as well in the month (or just something along those lines!)!!

Yup Stellar Blade is the farthest out high profile game and that’s barely two months away. I’m excited for that, Eiyuuden Chronicles and Saga in April (the latter two aren’t high profile).

We’re getting some small games lining up for June (Spy X Anya and Tokyo Xanadu Switch), but May and beyond is basically a barren wasteland right now.

Edit: Seems I missed Hellblade.

I'll never buy another vanilla Atlus game again, that's for sure. Never even opened my steelbook edition.

It really never fails does it?
This could be an Apocalypse situation, in which case this is a totally new game in the same setting. In which case there’s still value in playing the original game!

I'm not excited about Partner Direct :(

I hope Nate, Brazil or others, will know if Nintendo has a General or Mini planned for March or April....

According to the description, it is a complete edition of Shin Megami Tensei V with improvements and additional content.

So not an Apocalypse situation
That would be disappointing, unless it’s some pretty significant new content and overhauling. Or I suppose if this is coming to more platforms than just Switch - then it would make some sense.

Pretty sure SMT V getting ported was leaked ages ago - this is probably the manifestation of that.

Now to wait on that SMT IV port…

I think that's the main draw, is that it's coming to PlayStation and PC.

If you already own this on Switch, it probably won't be too apealing.
