WE HAVE STATS

Oh no

Skeledirge with dat speed

I don’t care about competitive at all, but a low speed stat is brutal for a single-player playthrough

Stats for the starters were leaked yesterday

Overall, the stats are not great unfortunately. I also think they're real - there's a couple of typos but I think the only source saying they might be fake was Centro

Looks like the leaked stats were real, barring the typos.

Here's a pastebin that also includes older Pokemon:

This reveals that Hisuian Samurott and Kleavor both also get Gallade's new Sharp ability.

Hisuian Typhlosion gets Frisk, Hisuian Decidueye gets Scrappy.

Very early impressions of who might be strong competitively, based on stats alone:

  • Meowscarada and Quaquaval should both be very good (Quaquaval's low-ish Speed is made up for by its speed-increasing signature move, and it also gets Moxie which makes it a huge threat). Skeledirge's bulk is decent but won't make up for its too-slow Speed tier
  • Dondozo looks great as a physical wall who can also do big damage. There are others who have good HP, and often Def, but Dondozo seems the best poised to make a splash (pun intended)
  • I think Revavroom could potentially make a good scarfer. It has decent but not great Speed and excellent Attack
  • I wish Cetitan had at least one good stat out of Def and SpD, since they're both very low and kinda negate its high HP. However, I think it will still have its uses
  • Baxcalibur is going to be fucking terrifying
  • Mabosstiff is in a similar category to Revavroom, although its Speed is possibly slightly too slow
  • Same with Gholdengo on the SpA side
  • Don't really feel like going into the Paradoxes or mascot Legends lol
  • Of the four Legendaries - the snail and fish and what have you - it seems like Ting-Lu and Chen-Pao are the best (are those really their names...?)
  • Ceruledge seems better than Armarouge, purely on account of being faster
  • Kingambit will be great, as will Annihilape
  • Clodside should make a good special wall
EDIT: And Palafin, while a bit convoluted given its ability, will be fantastic

Two of Squawkabilly's colors get Guts as an HA, and the other two colors get Sheer Force as an HA. Weird, no stat differences either.

Depends on the ruleset but I feel VGC is going to be a lot of sun/terrain with paradox mons, which could be fun. Some creative abilities got added too.

Singles is still dead (and pretty much buried now, honestly. Don't think GF has any intention on making 6v6 playable in-game anymore) on cartridge so I'll stick to Showdown for my 6 vs 6 fix but that's going to be extremely unbalanced for at least a month while they work out if terastalize needs to get banned or not lol.

It sucks that Ursaluna is transfer-only, since I imagine that precludes it from the first period of competitive. Those stats with Guts and a Flame Orb (and access to Facade) are quite monstrous and would be fun to use

I mean, playing on Showdown makes me realize why Gamefreak killed 6v6: it's boring. Games take forever and stall is everything. This would be much worse on cart, with all the animations and whatnot.

3v3 is actually pretty fun. It doesn't have the depth of doubles but I would recommend trying it out

Looks like the no daycare thing is confirmed. Eggs are now from picnics, though it should still follow the old mechanics, just now even more time consuming.

Hopefully they make it even easier to get competitive Pokemon to offset the additional layer of tedium.

I pulled it from Era, didn't realize they might've been fake! Sorry all, glad it looks like it wasn't.

But yeah, the hammer fairy is rather disappointing. I love a lot of the others, though, and will have plenty of good options for a team! I'll plan one out and post it when I make a decision

Cyclizar could also be very good as a supporting mon. It has the new move Shed Tail which uses its HP to make a substitute then switches out. It also has Regenerator as a Hidden Ability so it would only lose 1/6 of its health each time

Cetitan with Slush Rush + boosted defenses from snow should be fun. Hard to revenge kill something like that.

I don't really mind stall/balance, breaking down a team structure like takes a lot of maneuvering and positioning even if it takes like 100+ turns lol. I don't really care about 6v6 not being a thing on cartridge anyways because VGC is there, I'm fine with just swapping between Showdown or the actual game depending on what I'm in the mood for, never really had a strong preference to play on cart exclusively.

I have a few too many mons I want for my first run, and a bit of overlap. I want both Annihilape and Ceruledge, and also Sprigatito and Kingambit. Hmmm.

Ah, so I see that Game Freak will once again never let go of its Charizard bias. As a Venusaur fan, I once again feel robbed. Robbed.

Still, I'm in for Quaquaval, Armarouge, and possibly Arboliva as team members during the main quest.

Is there a list of exclusives yet? Friend wants me to get this game and I'm not making any decisions until I see the exclusives.

I think that Meowscarada, Baxcalibur, Kilowattrel, and Glimmora are locks. I just need to figure out the last two.

Without massive spoilers, are the characters/NPCs written well or any good? Outside of the gym leaders I wasn't a fan of most SwSh characters
I haven't watched any streams or anything but all impressions I've seen of the characters and story have been really positive

To echo Hologram, I've avoided story and character spoilers so I legitimately have no clue what happens, but from the reactions I was getting from those who were spoiled, it seemed to be quite good and surprisingly positive

I was glancing on and off at one of the streams, and I'd say yeah, they seem to be pretty well written

In general the story seems to have a gotten a fair bit of focus and also seems to be fairly character driven. Kinda like Sun and Moon from what I remember, but all wrapped up in an open world.

Still going with Fuecoco. Skelledirge seems fun. Other than that what I have seen pleases me.

Story spoiler about Paradox Pokemon:

It's been now confirmed that the Paradox Pokemon are indeed from the past / the future.

Story spoiler about the ending part:

The professors created a time machine that seemingly runs awry via an AI, so Paldea is at risk of being overrun by Paradox Pokemon.
The profs apparently died in an explosion when things started to go wrong, and the profs you see during the game is the AI imitating them.
The prof AI is seemingly the final boss.

Whew. Compare this to Sw/Sh ... GF let their story team go all in this time.

Though i gotta give something to Sw/Sh, i love unhinged campy villains like Oleana. That "the henchmen are more radical and evil than the actual villain" is a funny trope.

any news about post game? something like Battle Factory, post game exclusive quest etc.?
There's a pretty meaty quest and a battle mansion type thing. Very similar to some of the 3DS games in my opinion, also some very obvious hints to DLC expansions.

Remember back in X and Y when all three Kanto starts got mega evolutions? That was nice. Venusaur’s was so cool! Just ignore the fact that Charizard got two mega evos while Blastoise and Venusaur both only got one.

It would be nice for the two also-rans from Kanto got some love too, GF! It’s been years! Venusaur jumping into a pond last year barely counts!

Maybe one of the DLC mons is an ancient/future Charizard that is like the Suicune one, where they fuse Charizard, Blastoise and Venusaur into one chimera beast.

Everyone and no one wins!

Do we already know the pokemons exclusive to each version? I saw the Scarlet and Violet Book, but i wanted to know if there’s others.

Found this, but it appears to be an incomplete list:

Scarlet:
Box legendary
Ancient Paradox
Armarouge
Tyranitar + Pre Evos
Bronzor + Evo
Stonjourner

Violet:
Box legendary
Future Paradox
Ceruledge
Salamence + Pre Evos
Sinistea + Evo
Eiscue

Seems neat. Hope to have some real challenge After the main campaign

was gonna get scarlet because I love the box legendary and prefer the past Pokémon to the future ones, but with eiscue on the line I have put in my pre-order for violet

Looking through the stats again, the Wiglett and Toedscool lines have the exact same statlines as their counterparts, which confirms to me that they're just regional forms that aren't constrained by the original naming convention. That way they don't run into the Alolan Sandshrew situation.

I also assume they don't want to be on the hook for making all forms compatible in future games if they just want to have Diglett or Tentacool in the game. That's of course a requirement of their own making and pure speculation on my part, since BDSP and PLA already buck this "trend".

What is weird about that is that you can't Transfer Tentacool or Tentacruel into SV.

I'd argue it's easier to trade for one single Pokemon (Eiscue) than for a whole batch of them (all ancient paradoxes).

I just remembered that my absolute bro of a Pokemon, Toxtricity is also in ScarVio. That one has to be on my team.

Also, people figured out how to evolve Primeape, use the move "Rage Fist" 20 times then level up. So literally making it so angry it dies.

Sadly the pre-order is in

Cancel it? Or is it digital and already preloading?

Regional forms often don't have the same stats. Also, what do you mean by the Alolan Sandshrew situation?

Few updates, it appears t he egg and TM movelist are now out for ScarVio.

Fuecoco learns Slack Off, so that's the badly needed recovery move for the slow thing.

And a very unique evolution method: To evovle Bisharp you need to have Bisharp hold a specific item "Leader's Crest" and have it defeat 3 other Bisharp with that item.

That's actually really cool. I really liked most of the unique evolution methods from Arceus, although a few of them were maybe a bit too esoteric and nearly impossible to figure out on your own without looking it up. Still, these different evolution methods are neat, and they are way better than just being a trade evolution.

Those are probably back, aren't they? Trade evo items was one of the best parts of PLA.

I'm not sure about the evo items. Some stuff from Arceus isn't in, for example the item to evovle Scyther to Kleavor. Kleavor is HOME transferable and you can only evovle Scizor in ScarVio as of now.

that alolan sandshrew isn't that big of a situation. we have all sorts of animals with weird common names tbh. like there are male lady bugs
