Not until Nintendo launch their massively multiplayer papier-mâché online role-playing game Paper Mario Online.

Players can choose from a variety of playable races, including Toads, Goombas, Koopas, Magikoopas, Bob-ombs and more. Players cannot customise their character model or appearance. Please understand.
An expanded Mushroom Kingdom game without any of the main cast of the Mario games would be cool, actually.

I thought this might have been public knowledge already but I’m a 3D animator lol
Oh hah, well that’s cool, I’ve just been dabbling in 3D modeling for around 11(?)ish years, got into it in high school after learning autoCAD(then teaching myself inventor) for school, then I got pulled into Star Wars empire at war forces of corruption Modding scene and learned 3ds max, dabbled in the sonic gens and FS2 scene, tried my hand with some other stuff but burned out being annoyed at myself and life being busy till this summer when a buddy gave an idea that got me into doing it again(he has a 3D printer so I was making some Mecha minis for a SRW TTRPG he’d been throwing together… except he still hasn’t gotten more plastic for it so the dream remains unrealized). So I taught myself blender since my old laptop I used to use is toast.

Always been more of a reference modeler than being able to make something from scratch which sucks as I have tons of ideas in my head(can’t draw either). The other reason I took a hiatus is I never got any real training so I’m pretty slow and messy at certain things, even rolling with a lower poly feel(plus never had a huge knack for for texturing or animating. Usually did a lot of spaceships and nowadays mecha. I’m fine at rigging tho but not high level or complex stuff or anything. Made a super simple seagull for a super simple little project idea I had I may mess around with another day

My Vita backlog clear has been going so speedily on account of how many short games I have on there. Finished Hue last night (fun puzzle platformer, but it got a little buggy towards the end and I had to reset some levels to make things work as intended again), almost done with Roundabout (very fun but very buggy, including unobtainable trophies and disappearing platforms during a water crossing section), finally tried Downwell (I'm bad at it but it's neat), and working through Persona 4 Dancing All Night (good lord the VN parts go on and on).

Any takes on AI: The Somnium Files? Thinking of grabbing it this month as it's on sale on PSN.
I just finished it this week. I had a great time with it, story was satisfying and the characters were mainly likeable. There are a few moments of objectification that made me feel a bit uncomfortable but they were largely to make fun of the main character. Another thing is even though the story is good and intriguing, it's best not to take it too seriously.

I'll be honest and say I used a guide for some of the puzzle rooms as well because they got a bit frustrating at times. Overall I had fun though and would recommend.

Very, very good story. Intriguing, with lots of twists and turns. For anyone into murder mysteries, this is as good as they get.
The gameplay.. I can give that it's completely unique. Haven't played anything else like it. It's a bizarre concept - move around in someone's dreams (or, well, subconscious) and try to change them by interacting with objects, but you're on a timer. It can be frustrating (the last one almost always has me reach for a walkthrough) but it's at least fun.

The characters are great and funny. The thing that irked me the most apart from the occasionally random nature of the game was some immature jokes.

Yeah, I think the move might be to have TGA on in the background while I'm doing other things tonight. I do really want to continue playing Halo's campaign, but I also know that I'll get FOMO if I miss a potentially big announcement in real time.

EDIT: I've decided if Nintendo doesn't tweet before tonight's show, I'll just watch the highlights later. If they do tweet, I'll watch it live even if it's not my focus.

My expectations for tonight are below the ground
but I still hold out hope for something cool from Nintendo. Just a glimmer, though.

I'm fascinated by the idea of making games but I have no idea what role I'd be able to play in production and even though one of my previous jobs was technically as a programmer it was VB and I was told very sharply by "real" computer professionals that that doesn't count. LOL

I envy the hell out of people like Toby Fox and Daisuke Amaya who can just sit down and do all of it themselves, music, graphics, scenario, and code. Blows my damn mind.
Late to the party BUT:

Ignore folks who tell you it’s not “real” - there is a lot of weird elitism in software engineering, and it’s mostly horseshit. Especially when it comes to game dev.

If you look at any of those folks developing games solo, all of them suck at some part of it, and most of the time it’s the programming. But if you allow yourself to not be good at it, and just worry about getting stuff working, you can make amazing things. The code for VVVVVV is some of the ugliest I’ve ever seen but it’s a great game.

Lucas Pope is a pretty excellent programmer, but as a musician and a 3D artist he’s somewhere between “talented amateur” and “knows what Maya is” but Obra Dinn is built to turn this limitations into assets.

Everyone who wants to make a game should make a game - there are so many tools out there to make it possible. It’ll probably be bad. That’s okay! Almost everyone’s first try at anything is!

Almost every kid doodles in the margins but isn’t an “artist.” We all sing along to Spotify but aren’t “musicians.” Basically every kid who grew up in the cellphone era has a couple videos on social media but isn’t a “filmmaker.” That’s okay. Sometimes making stuff is fun by itself, but also if we love a medium, toying around with making something helps us appreciate it more.

wow, your reverse heir apparent of the aged persuasion is a black belt in expressing interest

a. what’s that like

b. how braced is he for the geoffoning

c. will there be a dadreactor livestream
I just realized what you did with the italics in "heir apparent." My god. 🤣😂🤣😂

I present to my fellow Famicomrades my TGA 2021 wishlist.

  • Metroid Dread wins GotY. Sakamoto is not present but they share a message of his, where he is thanking everyone for playing Metroid Dread and announces that he has a small surprise in store for us. A trailer for an expansion is shown, adding two new modes: randomiser and boss-rush. 9,99€/$. The expansion is available this Friday, and a free update adding permadeath mode launches simultaneously.
  • Nintendo also show off a MP4-esque teaser for a game tentatively titled "Project F-0". No further information is given. Doug Bowser then walks onto the stage and asks if everyone liked their out-of-season April Fool's joke. He then proceeds to show off a game that "actually exists" and a trailer for Xenoblade Chronicles 3 rolls.
  • Microsoft and Bethesda share the first trailer for Starfield. It looks good.
  • After the Sonic Movie trailer airs, Josef Fares comes on stage visibly drunk and proclaims that TGA has become what he hates the most and that he will never visit this show again, ending with "Fuck the Keighleys!"

small brain moment, but what is VB? Visual Basic?

From the perspective of someone living in the UK/Plague Island, it's difficult to get excited about such a lengthy show when it's on in the early hours of the morning. My chronic condition is also easily made worse by lack of sleep, so no Keighleys for me.

I've decided not to watch tonight, It's so cold and dark at the moment as well as everything being so depressing here in the UK that I can't make myself stay up all night even for a little bit of hype.

Look at this way. If Nintendo do something cool, or if other companies announce something good for Switch, we can wake up to that instead of further pictures of our openly corrupt, hyperdysfunctional establishment continually and brazenly displaying how much contempt they have for us all.

Detective Pikachu 2 would certainly be a highlight of a February direct, just sayin' (Glad to see that we'll probably be seeing news about that in 2022 if not tonight at the Keighleys)

I'm sleeping poorly at the moment because of some aches, pains and headaches and I'm a late sleeper anyway, so while I will not be watching the TGAs I can hear about all the news before I go to sleep angry.

Nintendo could announce Fire Emblem, Xenoblade, Metroid, show off BOTW2, revive three dead franchises and add GB/GBC/GBA to NSO for free and the government will still find a way to top all that while #IStandWithFartfaceBawjaws trends and gets thrust in our faces as the British public rally to support some poor unfortunate who was fired simply for expressing their views (on eugenics, forced sterilization, and banning all pronouns and several adverbs).

So here's a weird thought: we were talking a ways back about "Content Creator of the Year" and the legitimacy of the selection process for that (I think? Unless my brain is making up memories). Well Esquire just released their Gaming Awards winners, and their Content Creator of the Year award went to DidYouKnowGaming:

The Esquire awards page

And that's more what I'd expect. So now I'm kinda wondering (and this sounds spiteful but I don't mean it to be) is one of the requirements to be nominated for "Content Creator" at the Keighleys being a streamer with your face onscren? Do other forms of gaming content not count, the same way documentaries get disqualified from the Oscars for not having enough "original footage," despite their quality (yes I'm still sour about Senna getting snubbed a decade ago)?

Switch sold just under 203,000 units in Japan last week

Un-fucking-believable. PS5 sold under 2,000 units WTF
I’m seriously wondering if Switch 2 is coming in 2-3 years if we’re going to see a DQXI situation with Final Fantasy XVI. Meaning Sony gets first shot at it on PS5 and then Nintendo is the lead platform for the revised edition.

As it stands, if DQXII isn’t currently targeting Switch or Switch 2 as the lead platform Square-Enix done goofed.

I miss the days when the worst thing the UK PM did was call a bigoted woman a bigot without knowing his mic was still attached.

To be fair last time The Keighleys had a performance by Imagine Dragons

They showed the first ever BOTW game play

Imagine Dragons is performing tonight too

Just sayin

Coincidence?

probably, yeah

given how important DQ is to japan, I can't see Sony being able to pay for exclusivity. DQ means little in the west

The GOG database has just received an update for the video game. Announced at The Game Awards?

oh maybe that’s actually a tiny bit of something

I still really think it’s way more likely at a December Indie World if we hear anything about it at all this month

but I’m also not holding my breath
