Do what I do: do an outrageous amount of research, then make a strong decision to not make a purchase until a hella good sale. That way when the sale comes you're educated and prepared for it but it feels like someone else made the decision for you, so the pressure is off.
Yeah, I'm hoping I can have the self control lol

One thing that always boggles my mind is that every laptop always seems to have some sort of reasonably large drawback, to the point where it seems like OEMs almost intentionally avoid making a perfect laptop. For example, the Asus Zephyrus G15 seems almost perfect (performance, size/weight, battery life) for my needs, but I would love if it had a brighter display option, less of a chin, and a webcam. What's that? The Zephyrus M16 is literally the same chassis but with the improvements I just described? Oh, but it's Intel not AMD, so it's got worse thermals and (more importantly) worse battery. Why couldn't they just leave the AMD inside?

To be honest - and this is very much a me problem - I would probably have much more self control if there was a perfect laptop, because then my research would end soon after it started and I wouldn't feel the sunken cost fallacy lol

Anyway wish me luck with my fixations and impulsiveness

Huh, no kidding? Wow, Virtuos do seem to nail current-gen down-ports, just not PS360 up-ports.

Starlink on Switch was wonderfully done. X-COM 2 was rough when it launched even worse for The Outer Worlds), but they really patched up both IIRC and now are quite good.

Thanks for the info! :D
No worries. :)
Virtuos have a long history of Switch ports at this stage, all the way from LA Noire and Dark Souls to Starlink and the Bioshock trilogy.

Dying Light is by far their most impressive work to date in my opinion, as it's quite a demanding game even on PS4/Xbox One, yet they got it running on Switch in a much less downgraded state than I expected.

I'd go so far as to rank it up there with Witcher 3, Doom Eternal, and Hellblade as among the most impressive from any studio thus far.

The link above isn't the version with CRJ - I just got the idea to throw her into the mix today so I've been working on that lol.

Uploading now, I'll have it up in a sec. I basically just use the chorus, that's it. The chord progression of PYT is different from Call Me Maybe, but it works really well.

Of course, the keys of both songs are like a whole fifth apart, so I hope you like chipmunk vocals : 3
Psh, one of my favourite mashup edits was The Midnight with Taylor Swift, except to make her vocals fit she was dropped several notes, but it fits so good for a synthwave track

(Had to look it up just to queue up right after your song 😅)

You said that just as a lovely sax solo is blasting on this citypop mix I've got going in the background.

Dude I grew up on Alvin, Simon, and Theodore. Let's goooooooo 😆
Hell yeah, that's what I strive for 🎷🎷

Honestly if Famiboards gets a musical collaboration project together, I'd love to provide session sax stuff. Can't guarantee it'll be good, but I love the practice and maybe we'll get some magic going haha

@Brofield @chocolate_supra here's an updated version where I threw in a CRJ sample

I'll work on it some more later. I have a bunch of CRJ instrumentals and isolated vocals, so I'm about to have a lot of fun.

Btw this shit was stupid hard. I performed this recording live through two of my sampler machines. I have a bunch of effects and filters assigned to knobs and sliders that I'm pushing in real time as it's recording, and I'm triggering sections and samples on my Launchpad. It took me hours to get it to sound this good.

All the drums, bass, synths, and keys are homegrown OG sounds from scratch. Designed the bass and synths myself. I also included the instrumental of PYT to layer in on some parts.

I love this shit, but nobody I know IRL cares. Please let me know if anybody is interested in hearing more.

edit: 4:20 hehe

Ah man, honestly even this version I really love. Even chipmonk vocals it still fits really well haha. I remember seeing my friend make beats once, and even if I couldn't quite follow what each button, knob and slider were for it was like watching carefully choreographed fingers dancing.

But shit those self made sounds are dope 🔥🔥🔥

(also lol 🍃🍃)

Listening back, I noticed I misfired my favorite sample - the pitched-down "lo-love you" is supposed to be at the empty space at 3:25, but instead it's buried underneath the mix at 3:27

Boof

When a SRW makes you pick between a real heavy and a super/fantasy heavy route in the early game, the pick is obvious. I poured all my funds into supers to make them useful, of course I’ll stick with them(even if the buddy complex crew is fun)

Working on X right now. In this case it’s a choice between Reco in G, Buddy complex and F-91(Gundam…. So it’s a full Tomino written team) versus Wataru, Gurren Lagann, Nadia and the secret of the blue water and Cross Ange. I think my choice is obvious

my final project was actually an Unreal Engine 4 game and it went so terribly that it's the reason I'm not sure if I'll graduate
Ick. Well either way, best of luck. If it's any consolation, I had a piss poor final project in my statistics course but the instructor could follow where I was coming from and what I was attempting so he gave me a good grade anyway. Sometimes the "A for effort" thing literally happens.

I won't have time to listen until tomorrow so you can fix it and I'll never know 😛

Also, whose idea was it for the Keighleys to start at 8pm Eastern tomorrow? This isn't the Oscars, I ain't watching it during precious evening time. Put it on during work and I will happily watch lol

Yeah, lol

My idea for a game is like the Mystical Ninja games on the SNES, but with combat like Sekiro but simplified so anyone can enjoy it.
I'm fascinated by the idea of making games but I have no idea what role I'd be able to play in production and even though one of my previous jobs was technically as a programmer it was VB and I was told very sharply by "real" computer professionals that that doesn't count. LOL

I envy the hell out of people like Toby Fox and Daisuke Amaya who can just sit down and do all of it themselves, music, graphics, scenario, and code. Blows my damn mind.

I love this stuff. Really enjoyed the section from about 2:20-3:00 especially. Of course in 2010/11 I was obsessed with Girl Talk, so can definitely get into the mashup scene.

I'm writing and illustrating a comic meant for all ages, but sometimes my cynical "Stanley Kubrick" creativity comes out, and I have to restrain and tell myself, "Don't make the kids depressed, Nathan."

Oh right, new game + in Xenoblade 2 carries over my level, blades, blade arts, items, accessories, affinity chart levels and Aux Cores.

"Is already on chapter 3 considering he one hits almost everything"

Well there it is.

After my gushing to my dad about Chrono Cross days ago, playing the OST for him while running errands, and then today him getting the full brunt of me geeking out over the Sonic movie poster with all the little game details (Tails' biplane! A Buzz Bomber in the background! Robotnik's eggmobile!), he said he wants to watch it with me. My 75-year-old father wants to watch The Fucking Game Awards live with me so he can see all these things I've been gushing about.

What timeline is this, yall?

Sounds like a great timeline.

🤣😂🤣😂 I'm not forcing him to watch it! He said he wanted to!! I even said "um... It's like three hours or something" and he said "I'll watch till I'm ready to stop, don't worry."

I’ll be honest, this sounds like a terrible storyline for an episode of Big Bang theory, but swap you and your father for Leonard and his mother.

Editing to just say this actually sounds pretty cool

This is super wholesome, and also makes me think:

Most gamers are people that grew up, at least to some degree, with games, so it's kind of rare to find gamers or people really much aware of games as a whole that are older than, say, their 50s? Obviously this is a generalization and there are exceptions, of course. But it makes me wonder what it's going to be like in 20-30 years when gaming has been a "thing" for that vast majority of everyone's lives, and how that's going to change things and how much more normal people of all ages will feel about gaming. Like, imagine in the future old folk's homes doing LAN parties instead of bingo, because that's nostalgic. Stuff like that.

I wonder if having a laugh track in my life would improve my anxiety or make it worse? 🤔

Geriatric LAN parties sound sick as fuck

The Game Awards the reason you buy Pokemon. It's the perfect game to play while halfway paying attention to something else and I mean that as a compliment. Most of my time playing Pokemon as a kid was done while hanging out and chatting with my friends. I'm just gonna sit back, grab some tea, Pokemon on my Switch, and watch for any potentially interesting announcements from corner of my eye tomorrow.

Oh hell yeah I love girl talk. He put on a free show in my city and it was wild.

@Brofield Here's another choppy bop I made using an acapella of Justin Bieber's "Sorry". Cut that shit up and made a track around it. The main vocals are from a royalty-free site I found. Forgot who it is honestly. Lol

Again, all the bass, synths, and drums were custom made and I mixed it to sound huge. Play it loudly, if possible (but not too loud!)

OH SHIT I forgot! My fami will love this

I sampled the Switch OS sound effects for the percussion part in the intro.

You can hear it at 0:18. It's the sound of re-opening suspended software on the Switch

I’ve toyed with some Goemon inspired ideas but I’m more of a reference modeler and can’t draw worth heck so never made much progress
I've dabbled with animation but I'm not sure if I'm good at it. Talking about this creativity stuff is making me want to get out of my bed and do something productive despite being past my bedtime lol

I’ve been too busy to uv map and texture my latest thing for weeks so I’ll probably know that out. Then it’s a question of do I try messing with an idea in my head or use a reference to make something I’ve been meaning to make that’s just for fun(and might give me a trio for a new render)

I'm playing french horn, let's make a band fami
I'm down. I can do keys or drums!
FamiLo-Fi, LEGGOOOO

I saw Girl Talk play in Toronto once at a festival in 2013 or 2014. Unfortunately I started crushing hard on one of his friends on stage; I know for sure she saw me as the only guy belting out Dancing In The Dark in the crowd when it was mixed into the set and I like to believe I saw her laugh a little bit when we made eye contact. I saw her in the VIP lounge by the lawn GA after his set; I tried to walk over and work up the courage to say and break the ice, but I was flying solo at the festival since all my friends bailed last minute and I chickened out lol

But yeah, this sounds phenomenal when wearing headphones, and I made it as loud as I reasonably could without hurting my ears 😋 You know, the vocals actually remind me of a couple MonsterCat songs I hear when I'm playing Rocket League, but that is definitely a bop and so goddamn fun to jam to. These kind of lush songs is exactly my kind of preferred music when I look to house and synthwave haha, that big and bold sound that has like a million different layers you can feel under your own skin

you probably will! they fuckin’ let me graduate and god knows how many things went horribly wrong in my “academic career”

my thesis ended up being pretty alright but never program an art-heavy playback interface in Max MSP 5 on a 2009 laptop

and by the fires of ultrahell do NOT use that same window for generative playback and “live” ““performance””

Noooo RIP what could have been. Ah well. That's a great memory to have and, not to rub it in, but I KNOW that would have been a perfect conversation starter

Yoo now you're speaking my language, I see every layer visually so I try to make it very stimulating and colorful, swirls and twists, like looking at fireworks through a kalaidescope or something. Glad you enjoyed it.

I don’t know I’d rather go for a clean and simple art style like cel shading and simpler more reto style conservative poly level models with personality rather than to push something pretty

Ahh, my shyness often got the better of me, to the point I'd completely undermine myself with 'well, I'm sure she's already been harassed by better looking guys than me, so really it's for the better I let her be to enjoy the evening with her friends.' Ask me how this line of thought has carried on throughout my adult dating life and helped me in the future 👍

Besides, when is liking Springsteen ever cool when you're 21 back then? 😋

Bro, that aural kaleidoscope feeling, I know exactly what you're talking about, and I fucking love that shit. Real talks, if you have any recommendations for artist on Spotify or Soundcloud, I'd love them sent my way.

a. what’s that like

b. how braced is he for the geoffoning

c. will there be a dadreactor livestream

it’s amazing how powerful and motivated spamlords and their weaponized loop pedals are
Eh, it happens. Even with measures stuff can slip through the cracks. At least it was dealt with swiftly, and that's what counts! :)

I actually meant measures to prevent bots from signing up. :p
