News Batman Arkham Trilogy coming to Nintendo Switch on December 1st (out now!)

They seem to have removed the date. But It's very surprising that RDR beating Batman in preorders by 10 spots and they're launch around same week. That pricing scandal worked as a publicity stunt, I guess.
The Switch audience is seemingly much more receptive to RDR since it was never on Nintendo systems

I think the smartest thing Rockstar did with the RDR announcement is that they made it during a slow news cycle. The Arkham trilogy announcement might've gotten lost in the Direct among the bigger stuff, and there hasn't really been another marketing push for it since.

I don’t think the move is to promote games that have been elsewhere for a long time two plus months before they release on Switch. The push will come closer to release.

I agree. I'm just giving my 2¢ on why RDR opened to much higher preorders. I don't know if WB is really expecting much out of this release, but at least it's finally happening.

Quite amused at people who consider Batman: Arkham Knight an “impossible” port. This game isn’t going to blow up or melt your Switch. It’s… rather embarrassing, tbqh. I remember the excuses not to bring it to the Wii U being around the idea that it “couldn’t handle the Batmobile” - Let’s just ignore that in the same year, there was another open world game on the Wii U called Xenoblade Chronicles X, where you had verticality and could traverse the land in Transformer-style mechs. Batman: AK was never “impossible”, and it wasn’t a UE4 title, but one built on a modified version of UE3. Since then, we have Witcher 3, Breath, and Tears, the latter two with environmental interaction on top, and the former a title from the same year as Batman: AK, regarded as one of the defining open world titles of the last decade, on a cart with all the DLC, but we still have this silly song and dance, this faux concern about whether the game can run or not. It can. That’s before we come to the fact that it’s going to have a Switch Lite/Portable performance profile, which is largely considered to be “Wii U equivalent”. So, we’ve come full circle here, and perhaps it wasn’t so “underpowered” after all. How well it runs depends on a combination of the competence of the developers and the will of the publishers. If it’s a bad job, it’s exactly that. A bad job. It’s not indicative of the hardware’s capabilities, but it will lead to the same tiresome cycle of calls for new hardware. It’s here because it has been determined that a competent performance level is achievable, and most Switch owners are willing to make the trade-off for the option of a portable experience. At this point, getting the trilogy with all DLC on a single cart would be the more impressive accomplishment here.

Origins hasn’t been ported anywhere because UE3 games have had a general problem moving to successive platforms. It isn’t borne out of a desire to erase that title (although it’s the worst of these entries). Developers, PS and XBox fanpeople loved to act all precious in the Wii U era, and it still happens now with this tendency to overshoot PS/XBox hardware while undershooting Nintendo hardware, which, by the way, never made false promises or tried to sell itself as a “powerhouse”. Coming back to this trilogy, there was nothing in the trailer to suggest there would be problems, and in any event, the gameplay we saw wasn’t final.
This Wii U revisionism is getting out of hands. The game was never possible on Wii U with its laughable CPU and abysmal memory bandwidth even with its mythical ultrapowerful eDRAM. The game struggled to run on Xbox One. Switch in portable mode is more capable than Wii U having double the memory bandwidth and 400 gflops FP16 performance.

Maybe people are just more interested in RDR in general compared to Batman, thus leading to higher pre-orders. Doesn't necessarily need to be any more complex than that.

That IS the interesting part. Batman Arkham Trilogy trailer racked up 700k views in one day after the Direct showing, became one of the most watched third party trailers, RDR got around only 250k. I guess this is never an indication of mainstream interest in any game.

Turn me up has more switchports in the work beyond the batman trilogy

As others have said, Dishonored, and Mass Effect are likely candidates for this to happen. But I can also see some rather unusual ones happening, one of which is Aliens: Colonial Marines if only for the purpose of "remaking" the game to what it was suppose to be originally, though that might be outside the scope of what they're typically working on.

Other possibilities are the likes of Enslaved: Odyssey to the West, Infinity Blade trilogy, TC Rainbow Six Vegas 1 & 2, and...Devil's Turd-erm, Third.

All possibilities!

To play devil's advocate, Arkham Knight likely would've been possible. The Wii U was such a failure though we never got the opportunity to see what other kinds of ports may have been in the works, let alone possible at the time. The main pool of memory would've been tricky for sure, and the edram would've been used for rendering the buffer for the 720p image. But a mere 1GB of DDR3 memory with only 12.8GB/sec bandwidth (literally half of what the Switch can do with over 3x times the available for devs) would've been a clear case of "what-ifs."

I think even with no significant additional marketing Arkham Trilogy will do fine sales wise, as long as the ports (especially Knight) turn out solid and this leads to positive word of mouth.
Oh wow it hasn't according to wiki. Must of been the rare PS3 game that I played. Sorry, I remember it on WiiU for some reason.
Maybe you conflated the fact that the Wii U got a respectable number of Arkham games with that Arkham Asylum Wii demo pitch that made the rounds some years ago?

Yeah, while there were some other Arkham games, we never got Asylum (or Knight). Had to look it up too ^^"

Speaking of Aliens, I wonder if we might see a Switch of Aliens Dark Descent, it’s UE4.

I’d love a remaster of Enslaved Odyssey to the West

The Trilogy marketing has barely started while the RDR is in full swing. Not really sure if there's much to compare just yet.

man, that's a double whammy of "never gonna happen". Ninja Theory is under MS now and even if Bandai Namco owns the IP, it's Bandai Namco

Yeah, it’s not something I ever expect to see again sadly, I kept my 360 copy thankfully but would have liked it on Switch…..man can dream

Bandai Namco ows the ip

Although this game is run by the western production team (Little Nightmares, Dark Pictures, Park Beyond, etc) whose policies and strategies are quite different from the Japanese production team.

In any case, I think that Bandai Namco would have other more priority ports, like the rest of the Dark Pictures saga.

I’ve always been curious about Enslaved, but still to this day never gave it a shot. I’ll bet it’d be a great experience on the Steam Deck. 😊

It was really good back in the day, I’m sure it would hold up nicely if you went to give it a shot in this day and age.

Personally way more hyped for Arkham than Red Dead.

Especially since:

1) I watched my gf play through Knight but never played it myself (absolutely gorgeous game btw)
2) I consider City one of the best games ever made
3) Asylum is still the most charming in the series
4) The gameplay in RDR is a bit of a slog especially when you hit Mexico
5) 3 amazing games instead of 1
6) Have not played any of these games in years

I'll still be getting both though (y)

Yeah, i'm looking forward to replaying the Batman trilogy on Switch, this time I might even attempt to 100% each game and see all there is to offer in these games.

I might buy this so I can finally finish the 1st game.

I loved the arkahm city one (played on wii u) and I liked arkham knight a lot.

I wonder if the 1st game is really the best one trully. Is it true these games are a follow up to the cartoon series?

I think whether you consider Asylum or City to be the best one kinda comes down to whether you prefer a more Zelda-like open-ended map (City) or something more closed off like Metroid (Asylum), they're both pretty good though.

Also, they're not really following up on Batman: The animated series but the games do have Paul Dini (who was one of the writers for TAS) involved in the story as far as I know :D

It's difficult to choose one of them as the best, but the oppressive atmosphere of the first game, trapped in the asylum with all the villains is unmatched imo. The other two open the scope gradually.

Truly the laziest major publisher when it comes to obvious PS360 ports. We should rolling in Tales and Souls games by now.

I feel they are going to push this launch greatly, it is indeed an important one. The Arkham trilogy is, and it's not only my own opinion, one of the best trilogies of videogames ever.

The art is amazing, as it is the art for the cover box.

Damn that Arkham Knight port is looking great. If it holds up on the technical side it will be in the conversation of best looking Switch games.

still a damn shame it's not the whole trilogy on one cart tho looking at the overall sizes for each game, even taking into consideration reducing/compressing textures and other assets it might have been too big for 32GB.

On PC : Arkham Asylum is 7.5GB, Arkham City is 17GB and Arkham Knight is 45GB.

Mainly using the PC versions as references because both Asylum and City on PS4/XBox are the remastered versions while it seems like the Switch will use the OG Xbox 360/PS3 versions as a base (not too dissimilar to how the Dark Souls port turned out).

Batman Trilogy
Super Mario Wonder
MGS Collection
Detective Pikachu

Then Spidey 2 on PS5, October is stacked for games I want, I can feel my wallet trembling already.
Plus Disgaea 7, World of Horror, the physical version of Red Dead Redemption... it's pretty great all around.

There are even more for me:

Silent Hope
Disgaea 7
CRYMACHINA
Hot Wheels Unleashed 2
Wild Card Football (finally a real football game on Switch)
Sonic Superstars (not confirmed)
Front Mission 2nd (not confirmed)

Yeah Switch adding Arkham Trilogy, RDR1, and MGS1-3 to it's already stacked library is wild. No other console can you play such a wide selection of the GOATs than Switch.

It still needs more, though. Yakuza, Fallout and Mass Effect still remain as the biggest series not yet on Switch.

I'm sure Mass Effect Trilogy will be on the Switch 2, they wanted to port it to the Switch 1 but it would have taken more resources than they had available.
Resources? This is EA they have more resources than anyone else. They ported the whole Frostbite engine to Switch just to port PvZ and we're talking about a series that has potential to sell 5 times as PvZ, maybe more. 130m install base is a golden opportunity.

I think ME will be on base Switch. Porting is not an easy process, Batman is coming out 2 years after it first leaked, it's only natural for ME to take this long time.
