I will say a pandemic that resulted in a virus that you need to get yearly boosters for in addition to your flu shot is a great way to get over your fear of needles real quick.
I still don't look when they jab me though.
What worked for me was that in the same year I had a really bad case of dengue (hospitalized for 12 days and everything) and got a match for marrow donation* (in the exams before the actual donation take place they pierce you a lot).
But the same, I still don't look :b.

*In the end I did not end up donating, the receptor got really bad one day before and they told me to wait for another call to set a new date and they never called me back, so I kind of assume the worst case happened :(.

Gotta move them goalposts or else their arguments don't holt water at all. 🤣

I actually used to have a family member who would do that to me with cars. He'd say "Japanese cars are trash and don't make any power," I'd point out that cars like the Supra and Skyline made over 300hp in the 90s, putting them on par with the Corvette and above the Camaros and Mustangs of the day, and he said "no they lie on those horsepower readings, it was proven they all did it" and I pointed out that SAE standards actually govern how the horsepower is measured now, so those readings are legit and he said "bullshit, since when?" and I googled it and found they started standardizing horsepower measurements in the 80s and he said "I'm not talking about the new shit, I'm talking about back in the day when they made REAL cars, in the 60s and 70s" and I'd try to point out that that was incredibly circular because I'm giving him examples of why new cars are also "real" cars that make tons of power and he just kept talking me in circles and telling me everything I said was propaganda and fuck I hated him so much 🙃

I also can't stand "gamers," for similar reasons. Which was my point.
I agree.

Which is why - along with being bored - I decided to make this image to portray how this year feels when it comes to gaming:

So many gamers are like the guy on the left; it's honestly quite disheartening.

Just an FYI there will be a new vaccine available in the Fall in the US similar to how the annual influenza vaccine is handled:

Will definitely take this one. Got the new covid strain last month and it was a tough son of a bitch, I was very sick for a week (and two weeks for my wife). Good luck with that @Dragoncaine btw, hope that it won’t last too long!

I just wish Switzerland hadn't stopped reimbursing vaccines, as they decided to do at the beginning of 2023. For a country so rich, they can be very cheap sometimes.

Timing is about right, September 2023 is exactly one year from when the updated vaccines got rolled out, which means we finally get data on how it holds up over a year.

Simply put, if your last shot was the updated shot, you don’t need another jab. If your last shot was the old vaccine, get the updated shot.

<furiously prescribes Nintendo for my patients>

Why can’t people just enjoy a meaty CRPG
Thanks for the advice and well wishes, everyone! Is the idea that the monovalent vaccine available this coming Fall more protective than the bivalent vaccine we have now? I haven't gotten either yet, and since I'll have antibodies for a while, I was thinking of getting my new vaccine in November to prolong my protection.

It’s timely that we’re talking about COVID stuff in here because

I think the strains the bivalvent targets aren’t as dominant but the monovalent should target one of the newer strains that have overtaken them. The big question, like with the influenza vaccines, is whether or not they targeted the right one for the upcoming season.

Basically, we’ve gone from a mono (against original strain) to bivalent (both strains). And now we’re thinking of switching to mono (against new strain) to laser-focus on the most predominant COVID strain right now, the XBB Omicron variant. There’s evidence that suggests that focusing on a single strain results in stronger antibody responses, but as with all medical studies, whether that translates into concrete outcomes such as higher survival rates remains to be seen.

My honest advice is to still get the bivalent vaccine, which optimally should be at least two months after your last monovalent dose. There’s still a lot of uncertainty regarding the new monovalent vaccine, as @shoptroll mentions.

If you’re planning to wait until November, then I’ll get back to you in November haha. I foresee the guidelines changing significantly month to month!

Correct on all counts. We can reasonably infer that the anti-XBB vaccine will work against all the XBB subvariants, but we still don’t know the optimal timing for booster shots, what the best formulation is, etc.

Y'all rock, thank you for helping my COVID-addled brain discern the differences haha. Sounds like my November dosage should be the monovalent vaccine, then at least two months afterward I can spring for the bivalent.

You can actually get bivalent now if it's been more than two months since your last jab. But if you want to wait for November, I'd wait for whatever will b WHO's findings at the time.

I keep forgetting the Lara Croft collection is out on Switch. Are they worth playing? I've never played a Tomb Raider game before and admittedly a little bummed out the mainline games always eluded me

Hmmmm I wonder what it could be? @9-Volt any ideas?
If the previous one is Hitman Absolution, this one should be Hitman Blood Money as it's its direct prequel. The "Over Our Heads" is a song about dying, fits perfectly. But Blood Money did not have any dolphins...

None of the games in Feral's portfolio feature dolphins...

Yeah pull the trigger, they're excellent games. Sure, the fun will be doubled when played with someone else, single player ain't bad either. AI is good enough to not be in your way. Puzzles are at 2D Zelda quality.

Wasn't the consensus that the previous hint was about the Deus Ex games? I remember seeing some of you guys talking about it a few weeks ago.

Star Ocean?
Don't Feral work primarily with western studios, I feel like Square would just port their games themselves or find some Japanese studio they already have a working relationship with to port it. Also, we're already getting the remake of SO2 later this year, so I don't think we'll see more of the series anytime soon.

Nah apparently Feral shot down Deus Ex Switch chances in a twitter QA a while ago. Hitman Absolution is much closer to the first tease, Agent 47 is a clone and the game features a pool table with destroyable cue.

I was thinking they wouldn't release Absolution without Blood Money as they're connected games. This new clue has got to be Hitman Blood Money, but I couldn't make the dolphin part out.

Ah ok, a bit disappointing since I really like Deus Ex and would love them on a portable.

So, the Hitman thing is also just speculation right? Because, being completely honest, I feel like there really isn't that much of a market for Hitman that isn't the modern trilogy (and that one is unfortunately already on Switch... as cloud versions)

Got plenty of other games on my plate but I think I'm finally going to take the plastic off my copy of FFX and play it at my doctors appointment. Kind of in a FF mood.

Yeah speculation but it's the best guess.

That might be IOI's decision rather than Feral's. Hitman Absolution was recently remastered for PS4 and Xbox but Switch was skipped. I feel the studio have bigger plans for Nintendo (for switch successor, specifically).

There are always a first time

What about Arika’s ocean exploration games prior to Endless Ocean?

A project that has not been underway for a long time may be taking place in the present.

I wouldn't rule out possibilities based on answers from a long time ago. Also, they were never going to confirm anything not officially revealed.

Oooh I see we're in the backlash part of the BG3 reception cycle, lol
Yeah, it's really annoying. I'm used to seeing this kind of stuff from forums of consoles that aren't getting a game, it happens and it's whatever. But what really disappoints me is just how much I'm seeing it from devs. Devs who are annoyed that Larian is raising the standards.

And it sucks, cause I get where the developers are coming from. Games shouldn't cost so much to make, take so much time to produce, etc etc. But just assuming it's crunch and saying it publically, or blaming Larian for raising a standard, is bizarre when these are industry wide problems for pretty much every genre. It's always been shitty how the few biggest publishers / developers can raise the standard to the point other devs can't compete on a budgetary level, but that's always been a thing (and it's getting easier to sell lower budget games than ever too). I think people are just getting upset because this is the first CRPG to have this kind of budget, but it's ridiculous how people are really saying this in a year with games like Tears of the Kingdom and Starfield, both of which also won't be realitiscally followed up by other devs, are coming out.

If CP2077 didn't faceplant out of the gate we probably would've been having this discourse 3 years ago.

CP2077 did not come out in 2020. Just no. 🙈 🙉

Larian's just having their CD Projekt Red moment where they've gone from a small developer to a much bigger player much like CDPR with TW1 -> TW2.

Arika can do Switch ports of their games perfectly fine. haven't you seen Fighting Ex layer on Switch? Looks great and 60 fps.

I don't know it wasn't long time ago and if I had to guess Embracer might wanna port the older games themselves.

If they really are Hitman games, that might confirm it. Absolution + Blood Money makes perfect sense, IOI is not owned by anyone.

They have already been ported by another team tho?

Dolphins and Over your Head, not Tomb Raider? Didn’t they have dolphins in some of them?
Literally the first thing I thought of was Tomb Raider Underworld because of the first level where you have to dive but I don't remember if there were any dolphins in that part.

Apparently Feral has a contract with EIDOS to port and publish their games, so I don't think Embracer will be a problem as long as they receive their % of the sales.

in fact they have no problem with amazon publishing the new tomb raider.

Anyway, if they port Hitman, it doesn't confirm anything, Feral works on many ports simultaneously.

A remake of Launch from Halo: Reach is now in Infinite. 343 has really done a good job with this game this year. Constant content, and all of it good.

Hold on, there will be no physical version of Baldur's Gate 3 on PS5?
Oooooooooh so that’s why there wasn’t any retailer selling the game when I looked for preorders. What a dumb choice, especially since the digital is 80 bucks. Was planning to get it day one but will definitely wait for a sale then.

I would have expected Crystal Dynamics TR trilogy to have been the ones to port if any other TR games come to Switch, wouldn’t say no to any of the older games mind
Hopefully we'll see them with the next console! Been waiting a long time to double dip on the last game, and in the case of the first and second ones, triple dip.

If it were up to me, GOTY would definitely be going to TOTK, but unless something crazy happens within the next couple months, my personal top 3 are TOTK, Baldur's Gate 3, and Labyrinth of Galleria.

Only if it includes the NES and GB/GBC games (or just put them up on NSO already!)
Yeah, the NES game is awesome. And if the arcade/Amiga version is in too (I also settle for the C64 version), the package is solid!
