I think gaming enthusiasts will want the more powerful model, yeah, but aren't a massive chunk of Nintendo's sales coming from families and.. like I dunno how to put it, but like the households that buy it for Mario Kart and stuff like that? Especially if Dane's going to be $50-100 more expensive, I definitely see the base Switch continuing to have legs alongside it. Also think of the massive number of households that now have Switches because of how well it has sold, imagine if Nintendo just up and said "oh btw our newest games aren't gonna work on your Switch anymore, you gotta buy not just another Switch but one that's even more expensive in order to play the new Mario." That would ruffle a lot of non-enthusiast feathers (god I'm trying so hard not to use the term "gamers" 😅). So I definitely see Nintendo and third parties (especially retro and indie developers that don't need massive power) supporting the base and Lite for a good while after Dane is out. Will they taper? Yeah eventually, but "Dane=Switch EOL" is a situation I just don't see happening.
jesus christ yall actually got me debating video game stuff instead of making snarky comments and posting memes wtf
I totally agree with this.
I myself am a video game enthusiast but I have no economical condition of upgrading my OG with a model 100$ more expensive. Said OG I only came to have the savings to bug in holiday 2021.
2020 was the peak year at almost 30m, but 2021 won't be that far behind (24m is the official expectation) and 2022 will definitely be another 20m+ year, and I think it can outdo 2021 with the amount of software that's coming.
Expecting it to get literally killed in 2023, after its 3 peak years(as an actual peak was made impossible due to supply issues) would be among the dumbest gaming company moves ever.
What it can get is a refreshment that after years will replace it, like GBC was. Or the transition will be seemingless like Xbox One - Series X games all having an "Xbox" on the box.

I really hope the Made in Abyss game is at least decent because the manga is conceptually something that should really translate well to a videogame and thank god it's not another stupid arena fighter by CC2.

The screenshots they've released so far look decent but I've been burned far too often by non-Dragon Ball anime games. It's gonna be extremely low budget, I fear. Still, looking forward to gameplay footage.

100% agreed on the arena fighter bit.

Do you think we could get any DLC for Dread ? Like an announcement at TGA ?
It seems they cut half the bosses, so maybe a boss rush with new ennemies ?
I think it should have an expansion, maybe a taste of where the story would go next. Epilogue DLC would be great. Maybe a prologue with what happened exactly after fusion. Or a prequel. But I think it should receive an expansion pass deal for 2022.

Okay, that is probably the weirdest issue I‘ve seen so far. When I put the OLED in sleep mode with WiFi enabled the battery drains way too fast, when I turn on Airplane mode however it drains like usual… never seen that one before, as if the Switch is constantly looking for updates and such.

I suppose no one here had any experience with this issue? Can‘t really find anything online.

No experience of it but if you haven't already try properly powering it off (not just putting it to sleep). There might be some random thing in the OS running behind the scenes draining it and properly powering down will end it from running

Just a guess and something to try. The classic switch it off - switch it on again trick is a powerful one!

It's the end of 2021 and Japanese publishers are still announcing games for PS4 without a PS5 sku.

They're not dropping Switch straight away lol
Given the abysmal software sales of PS5 in Japan, I don't really blame those publishers either. But the moment Dane is announced, Switch is in the decline phase and Dane will cost Switch sales if announced in 2022. (I'm going to assume Dane is not BC too)

Thanks for the advice. I did try that and it didn't really do anything at first glance sadly. I did some more digging into it and I did find someone with the same issue (from 2017 lol), and he came to the conclusion that this was connected to the WiFi password being changed. Apparently, when you have a saved network on your Switch but didn't update the password, even if it's not the preferred connection that you always use, the Switch in standby mode will try connecting to it the whole time, without success of course, repeating the action till you turn it on therefore draining the battery far more than it should. I lost around 50% charge during an 8 hour sleep as an example, when this should be closer to 5-7% per night.

Funnily enough I did factory-reset my WiFi router so the security settings were indeed changed. Deleted all previous networks, connected them again and this morning it seemed to behave normally again. 45 minutes undocked and it sat still at 100%, whereas yesterday it already would've drained at least 3% in that time span. I'll try it again tonight and see how much it drains over night this time around.

Being in the decline phase doesn't mean an end to support though. PS3 was still getting games in 2016.

Yes, that's true, 1991-1994 still saw NES games, Japan was still getting Super Famicom games in 2000. So yes, Switch would still get games 2023-202X.

Regardless of the numbers, I think that there is little reason to price the new model competitively to start. Supply will be extremely low and it will be an enthusiast-oriented product with functionally a soft launch. I could even see it being $500 to start, and every unit they make would still sell.

I dont think Nintendo will release new model on 1st place if supply will be extremely low, they will want to have bigger number ready for sales and in same time to have chip production orders for hole year at least.

1) this is currently happening with the OLED model though, supply is extremely limited.

2) the bigger issue will be high demand, not low supply, and that will happen regardless of when they release it. It's a waste of money to wait and build up an inventory when it'll just sell out immediately regardless.

1) OLED model is basically same model just with better screen, so not big problem because buyers can buy normal model also.

2) Low supply means low supply regardless demand. Difference is that Nintendo will focus on this new Switch hardware like next Switch gen hardware and new main model, not just like simple revision, so if they change marketing and focus they will not release it if supplys are extremely limited.

Unless they specifically avoid marketing it like a new gen Switch precisely because it will be in short supply.

Do we have any estimates around Pokémon BDSP's battery drain? Seems like it does somewhat drain my OLED fast like, say, BOTW would.

But in way they will need to marketing like that, because by time new games will be released just for that new model.
Saying that, PS5 is selling great despite short supply, but we dont talk about extrem low supplys.

Aww yiss, Swiss Media Markt has a 3 for 2 deal, I can finally pick up Tokyo Mirage Sessions, Mario Party Superstars and

-IMO sometime in 2023. we will have for Switch 2 launch with price point of $400.
-OLED Switch and Switch Lite will be still on market selling at $300 and $200
-Over 90% of all games will be cross gen for around 1st 2 years after Switch 2 launch

Oh but Nintendo LOVES their “[console] is impossible to get for the holidays!” headlines.

I really do think this is exactly how it’s going to happen.

Of course they do. That's happening right now with the OLED model. It doesn't need to be called "Switch 2" for them to enjoy that.

Much to the chagrin of OLED buyers but I would absolutely love Dane to be a 2022 thing. But I earnestly do think it’s going to be March 2023.
Good thing I didnt buy a oled, feels like a made a good choice in just skipping it and waiting for the dane

Where is the Pokemon is awesome people at. Haven't seen people give us daily reminders on those games

Nobody needs daily reminders on Pokemon because everybody knows its awesome

Shin Megami Tensei V, however, is easily GOTY material and one of the best games on the Switch period

Curious about that asterisk.

I feel somewhat confident in this prediction but it's almost entirely based on my expectation that they will have a new 3D Mario for the holidays so BotW2 can't be the big holiday title which is why it has to come earlier unless they straight up lied about the 2022 release. It's not a tease or a hint. If I have something to hint at or tease it'll be like that one time I did it for Paper Mario.

Me too. It think it's the fairest way. It's over a year after the OLED so that's about passable. If it's late 2023, that would be completely fine. Tech's going to get superceded at some point and giving a model two years at the top is reasonable.

Of course, since I skipped the OLED, I won't personally be complaining if Dane comes next summer. And if it is launched earlier to coincide with BOTW2 they're going to get from me a "We'll talk about this later" reaction (as in I'll feign obligatory disapproval but quickly stop giving a shit since Zelda in 4K).

So I saw bravely default 2 is 26.99 on Amazon. Do I pick it up as a fan of jrpgs? I don’t think it will get that price again and I am not sure when exactly I’ll get to it.

Especially considering I just bought Origami King at that price

Yes, Bravely Default 2 is an absolutely fantastic game

Is this week the last chance N64 games could be announced for NSO to release before December?

I don't want to try to guess when games are coming in December (but I still sooner believe they'll be announced next month), but also I'll be heartbroken that Nintendo has learned nothing if they don't update before 2022

You’re gonna be heartbroken.

I could see the next NSO update happening during the Game Awards as they announce Goldeneye is coming to the service after the show @Brofield

Oh I didn't think the asterisk was hinting at anything, I was just wondering how it affected the "fully". Like, fully (100%) vs fully* (60%) confident.

Personally I'd be shocked if it releases in the Summer. Splatoon 3 is definitely a big summer game, I'd be surprised if BOTW2 is not long after that. I'd guess it's more September/October if a new Mario is releasing in November/Decembt but I don't think that's guaranteed either.
