Before we get a General Nintendo Direct on June 22nd, we are getting a Everybody 1-2 Switch! gameplay demonstration this week on Wednesday.

Join the Everybody 1-2 Switch! Producer, Mr. Kawamoto and Director, Mr. Shikata, for roughly 30 minutes of gameplay from the Everybody 1-2 Switch! on 6/7 at 7:00 a.m. PT on our YouTube channel.

Roughly 30 minutes of gameplay? You really think they're going to show the entire game in one Direct?

Hey Nate in your personal opinion, do you think Nintendo would actually show up to Gamescom with games thats already been released?
Hard to say. It really depends on the games coming out in the immediate. Gamescom is a fine venue to demo Pikmin 4 and TotK to boost interest/sales.

Dude really intends to die on this hill.
Yep. Just seems he's been trying to not backpedal on the assumption he made of the light H2 because he knew Nintendo wouldn't be at E3 and maybe Direct contents.

It got funny even when like one day after he made that "Microsoft will have this, Sony will have that, Nintendo? Just keep playing Zelda" Everybody 1-2 Switch got announced lol. I mean it's not what we want, but it clearly shows Nintendo intends to announce stuff in summer.

June makes the most sense too btw because they gotta give Pikmin 4 a new trailer and show trailers for Switch version of third party games, notably Mortal Kombat 1 and probably Persona 3 Remake too.

Makes me think Nintendo told him to his face that there won't be any Direct. That would have been smart move on Nintendo's part if they wanted what they have to be a big surprise.

It won't be. You've been doing June shows for more than 25 years, Nintendo.

So he decided to pour oil on this whole "will Nintendo have a direct" business, huh?

Okay. Well. I'm just going to get my popcorn ready cause there's no way this ends calmly. It's going to be a shitshow.
For someone that thinks the Nintendo Direct is archaic and unnecessary he sure does like bumping his gums about Nintendo Directs 🙄
Really? That's, uh, ironic.

Can’t say I agree with much of it tbh!

Everytime I see this thread I'm reminded that people are hyping up a new direct, and yet I just don't feel it at all. Like it's strange, I waited for Zelda for so long, and like now that it's out I'm kinda...just content? Like if we don't get anything at all till September or even later, I'm more than fine with that personally.

Not throwing shade at anyone or anything, I just wanted to share why I'm just not feeling a direct right now.
See, I thought I’d feel this way, and for a while I did, but for some reason I just haven’t really felt like playing Zelda a lot. I’m only at about 15 hours in the game and I haven’t even started a dungeon yet. Unfortunately I’ve noticed this a fair amount lately; the anticipation of a game—no, the anticipation of an announcement of a game—is providing me with more dopamine than actually playing games. Don’t get me wrong, Tears of the Kingdom is everything I’d hoped for and more. This is definitely a me thing rather than the fault of any game.

On a lighter note: top 3 Direct announcements that would make Cyrus very happy:

  • 2D Mario
  • Donkey Kong developed by new blood at EPD Tokyo
  • Mario Musou (I’ve been unable to stop thinking about it ever since somebody brought it up here over a year ago)

My real dream announcements (3D Mario, Mario Kart 10, ARMS 2, EPD 1 new I.P., Next Level Games’s next project) are all better suited for the succ

are you telling me the guy who works for the company now responsible for putting on E3 (if they ever actually can or not remains to be seen) might have something negative to say about the kind of web broadcast that rendered their big dumb expensive tradeshow obsolete???? Huh! Never would have guessed :p

Can’t say I agree with much of it tbh!
He should be more worried about E3 lmao.

edit: honestly, I'm not a fan of dogpiling on a media person but he just doesn't seem non-biased so I can't exactly feel bad if he gets dragged for being wrong. Or if people find him stuck on an agenda as someone who works for ReedPop.

Quite unfortunate really.

I guess it all comes down to what caliber of releases Nintendo has left for the year. Judging by how crowded the first half of the year was I believe there has to be at least 2-3 between August and December. Remasters do not need much time to market and could even be shadow dropped much like Metroid Prime. If a new 2d Mario is indeed coming I would like to believe that there needs to be at least 3 months of marketing. Let's hope things start moving soon so we can get a better picture of the year, because today it feels like we are all in the dark including some of the insiders.

Your best bet would be finding a retro game store, assuming those still exist, that's where I bought my TTYD copy back in like 2018. It only cost me like around $46.
I was in one in Buffalo a couple years ago, they had a copy that was going for at least twice that. It was kept in a glass case. They had basically nothing else left.

My life hack is that the cheapest used games I've found have actually all been from places you wouldn't think to look, like CD or thrift stores. For some reason an antique store I went to a few months back had Japanese copies of almost every PS1 Crash Bandicoot game.

My thoughts on Dring is that he might very well have credible info that there's no Direct soon and I personally think there's a high chance that there is no Direct in June, but because Dring has become so emotionally invested in Nintendo not having one or having games at the end of the year, I take whatever says with a grain of salt or rather just kind disregard it all together.

He made a big statement that Nintendo wouldn't have any big titles after Tears of the Kingdom. People pointed out that Pikmin 4 was announced (I don't think the game had a release date), he went on Twitter stating that Pikmin 4 isn't a big game. Now we can debate about what game's are considered "big games" but any reasonable knows that Nintendo considers Pikmin 4 a major release. Of course what really happened was that Dring probably forgot that Pikmin 4 was announced, made his claim that there were no major games after ToTK, and then when people pointed out his incorrect reporting, he attempted to save face rather than admitting to his mistake.

For whatever reason, Dring has become really invested in what Nintendo does and doesn't do. He wrote his article about Directs are not needed anymore. His tweet about Xbox Series X/S sales in the UK said they were ahead of the Switch. But the main take away from the article was that the Series S/X was trending behind the Xbox One. So why did he randomly compare the Series sales to Switch? When Nintendo wasn't going to be at E3, they said it was because that didn't have games to show. But then everyone else backed out of E3 and I didn't see the same reporting that the industry wouldn't have any new games at all this. Then you also have Dring taking shots at Nintendo fans ahead of the upcoming PS and Xbox Showcases.

Dring has made it his mission to paint Nintendo in a negative light for some inexplicable reason. It's very odd. But because of this, I personally don't have reason to believe that Dring will accurately report the news. It's kind of like Zippo for me. I was off the Zippo train almost immediately because of his strange behavior. He would get really angry when his rumors turned out to be wrong or when Nintendo had a presentation he didn't particularly like. That told me that he was more invested his rumors being true rather than providing people with accurate information.

People keep saying that today we're closer to the next Nintendo Direct than we were yesterday.

But what if the next Nintendo Direct is not located at a point in time but rather a point in space - a point in space outside of our galaxy which, due to cosmic expansion, moves further away from us by the minute?

okay so with the idea that Gamescom could just be for Zelda and Pikmin being repeated I am now of the opinion that the insidery types 100% have reason to believe Nintendo has no games

I have no clue how they'd have heard that but I feel that's the only way to reconcile the narratives being presented

But... but... Nintendo Switch has games...

Nate I'm not going to pry any further on Direct stuff, we'll see how it goes but; can we expect Xbox Games Showcase predictions sometime this week?

It is odd isn't it, since they do typically seem to know even when partner directs may happen. But no one who typically starts smoke about that stuff has even gone as far as to think something even that small is coming.

This super secrecy about upcoming games would make sense if we had new generation hardware this November, but it seems that is not the case so I'm not sure why Nintendo is being so tight lipped. Everything is set up for a normal General Direct this June, but the vibes feel completely off. We ususally have way more smoke around this time and now its just nothing.

Switch has games, Nintendo doesn't

...and I guess they're sick of doing Partner Showcases? We'd have heard about one of those too
getting a Partner Showcase this month would shatter this thread harder than if we got nothing

If we're entertaining Dring info he said he has begun to hear about a Direct "much later" than June Summer Geoff Fest. 2 months later "much later" perhaps... hmm...

I'd be happy with another partner showcase. The last one gave us a new Bomberman game, persona ports to Switch, and the Battle Network Legacy collection.

it would be extremely hilarious if June ends without a Direct and then Nintendo drops an announcement on July 5th

That's how I will feel once I finally get Prime 4. It'll be quite a while before I REALLY care about another game like that. It's been so long, and I need that feeling of sweet release. But yeah, the train just keeps on rollin... Even with one of the biggest releases of all time with TotK, just a couple weeks later and everyone is already moving onto the next thing.

Last year the thread went from bliss to utter panic when we realized the leaked Direct was going to be a Partner Showcase.

Then the Partner Showcase actually ended up being really good.

This is 100% where I'm at. Just at a stage where I'm totally happy with what we've got now. Of course I'd get hype if there is one, but right now I'm all vibes.

I think you can piece it together with a bit of guesswork. Where do leaks come from probably:

Games: Localization and QA
Announcements & Events: Marketing

Or some combo of the above. There's a ramp up for the latter that leads to the inevitable Direct occurring, and it probably happens over the course of several months, as things start to crystalize. Trailers have to be created and sent around, schedule has to be set, videos and press materials created, etc. It's almost always an open secret with a lot of people when a Direct is upcoming, and seemingly is known about quite a while in advance. We've seen in the past people knowing the exact day or week of a direct like over a month in advance, let alone simply knowing that it's coming. The only way to potentially sidestep all of this is with a Twitter drop or shadow drop style announcement.

So at this point it's so quiet that multiple people are questioning what Nintendo's 2nd half even looks like, and are writing off large parts of the summer for announcements, you can reasonably assume no significant general or 3rd party direct is imminent.

We had Directs, not even that long ago (February 2023 and 2022 come to mind as latest ones) that were not talked about until around week before airing, while being really easy to guess due to their "pattern nature". In the end nowadays it's just Nate and Grubb usually saying something, noone else. We are still at the point when the quiet means nothing, especially if the Direct is happening around the 22nd. The fact that some Directs had been known for way longer does not mean it's precedent for every Direct, as was proven in the past.

I do believe Nintendo's H2 will be quieter than normal (probably filled with mostly ports and remasters), but they've got to have some sort of holiday game. If not... why not hold onto Pikmin 4?

One thing is for certain:

If you believe that there will be a Nintendo Direct this June or summer, then all the evidence points to there being a Direct this June or summer. But if you don't believe there will be a Direct this June or summer, then all the evidence points to there being no Direct this June or summer.

This is supposed to be the funniest page of the thread and all I see is despair and dread

Although I must admit I'm close to being ready to admit defeat.

By the way: Nice.

Please just give me the GC Zelda games… that’s all I need for the end of the Switch’s life.

…assuming the successor is backwards compatible…

I want more and more people to be team September or any other team. The less people are in June, the better the victory will be with our small army.

pretty much everything would be explained by new hardware but it's allegedly just not happening

Dude's arrogance is really starting to trigger my unhappy chemicals

Dring has made it his mission to paint Nintendo in a negative light for some inexplicable reason. It's very odd.
Can't believe I've forgotten his name but wasn't there a reporter for one of the big financial mags who seemed to constantly report negatively on Nintendo, like where every year he had a new article about how Nintendo should just get out of the console business?

Dring feels like the twitter version of that guy.
