FYI that’s not how it works, people are hired in the name of the most recent public project for security reasons but it’s not inherently what they’re working on or reflects on the projects progress.
Btw, i only mentioned retro was hiring more than ever, i didnt mention mp4.

As much as I’d love it to be this week, I feel like there’s too much going on already. Next week is on the table because I don’t think there’s anything major scheduled after the 13th. It could also be the following week because as evidenced by last year, Nintendo seems to want to distance themselves as far away from any other event if their not already tied to E3, TGS, etc. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

This week is gonna be Pokémon. You can take that to the bank
I second this. Pokémon news seems to be a somewhat regular occurrence in early June, whether there’s a general Direct to follow it soon after or not. iirc 2019 and 2022 did this.

Pokémon DLC trailer drop this week, Direct next week?

Maybe, but on Linkedin the art director explicitly stated that they're "still looking for talent to build Metroid Prime 4" a few weeks ago. Seems unlikely he would purposely mislead people.

Team June winning the poll once again. There's no turning back, we will win. But to be a winner, you must plan to win, and expect to win.

Hey Nate in your personal opinion, do you think Nintendo would actually show up to Gamescom with games thats already been released?
Personally I feel like that Gamescom will be their opportunity to do some of the Nintendo Live stuff but in europe. Maybe there will be some new games like a 2D Mario or Detective Pikachu or something really low key like Mario and Sonic at the Olympics, but I think they want to go in a community event direction.

Nintendo Direct but it's just Mr. Miyamoto doing what he likes, just 40 minutes of him going around guessing measurements and then checking if he's right

Now you’re looking for the secret... but you wont find it, because of course you’re not really looking. You don’t really want to know. You want to be fooled.

Given Miyamoto's "I can do whatever i want"-position at Nintendo ... what makes you think he doesn't to exactly that in between his movie and theme park stuff? ;D

This week: Pokemon Presents presentation or Pokemon SV DLC trailer without a Presents presentation

Next week: Nintendo Direct

Next next week: Pikmin 4 Direct/gameplay presentation/or just a new trailer

My 2 cents!

VGC just dropped an article to detail al the events coming up this month and it outright mentions ‘There’s no Nintendo Direct this year’ not sure if that’s based on what they know for sure or just based on the fact nothing has been announced.

Checking the story they link to and it's for Nintendo pulling out of E3. What they mean is Nintendo haven't confirmed anything, but that shouldn't be presented as categorically as "Nintendo aren't doing anything this year".

Like in a "There's no Direct in June/July/summer this year" way or a full on "Theres no Direct in 2023 anymore" way?

The former i could see. It's a take, but not "outlandish".
The latter is/would be pure insanity as a take.

Chances of Direct happening in June:

I voted June and regret nothing. Have some god damn faith.

When is the avatar bet thread for the confident in June people to stick their reputations on the line?
I was thinking of doing avatar bet, when all the people from other teams lose (they will) they have to put a Falco avatar, myself as a proud mighty warrior and leader of team June it would be really fitting and I will be laughting all day seeing Star Fox representation on the whole forum. June Direct is not "if" but "when". June Direct is locked. June Direct is happening. June Direct exists. June Direct will happen.

Agreed, really. Honestly would find it funny if Nintendo went for the last week of June to really try and bury the Stinky Horse... or the Direct features a 17 minute breakdown of every Stinky Horse minigame.
My understanding is that they are not going to shareholders meeting on June 23rd with Everybody 1-2 Switch - June 30, Pikmin 4 - July 21st and Prime 4 - TBA. As funny at it would be.

We talk about this all the time how shareholder meetings/earnings means absolutely nothing for their announcement schedule and announcements, which is true. But it's different this time, they will go to speak to them with one game burried on release, releasing at budget $30 price and launching week from that point, and their last dated game, Pikmin 4, releasing a month from that point. How funny it would be when Furukawa, like a programmed robot says his line "We are in uncharted territory" once again, while dodging questions about hardware and saying the obligatory "We are always working on new hardware, nothing to announce at this time" and reassures once again that they want to sell 15M Switch units by the end of this FY with only these 2 games dated in their timeline (one of them being really stinky).

This is not like in May at the earnings when they got Zelda just 2 days after that and everyone knew it would print money. By June 23rd, we will be way over month after Zelda and they just can't act like "We still got games! Please trust us!" It's not happening. Third week of June is the last possible date when this Direct is happening, it's really simple. Insider/Rumor stuff is also not that big of a problem as people make it to be, there were Directs, even in 2021 that were not hinted by anybody. And usually it's around a week before the presentation, maybe few days more. If the Direct is happening on 22nd, we still got plenty of time to hear from insiders. At the end of the day it's just Grubb or Nate who are saying something, no one else really.

This is why I think June 2023 is the pivotal month in regards to the future of the Switch. Things will be a lot clearer by the end of it. I cannot see Nintendo going into the shareholders meeting with horse game and Pikmin 4 the only dated first party titles.

If a Direct doesn’t happen this month I expect some big questions thrown at Furukawa. There was more mentions of new hardware than I was expecting after the last meeting and as Lukas said, they were days away from TOTK. As impressive as TOTK has been, investors will be looking for more than Nintendo just to sit on its May release - particularly when the question of what’s next lingers.

I have been out of the loop of this thread due to Zelda, but I just checked in to see what's up and I'm getting major Silksong vibes for some reason.

Tell me I'm correct, Fami. This can't be a product of the psychotic voices in my head.

Ngl I'd be down for watching Takahashi and Koizumi play bingo

It's also worth noting that this year's shareholders meeting is happening sooner than it even did - June 23rd (3rd week of June),

To really show you how you how different it is:
June 29th 2022 (last week)
June 29th 2021 (last week)
June 26th 2020 (last week)
June 27th 2019 (last week)
June 28th 2018 (last week)
June 29th 2017 (last week)
June 29th 2016 (last week)

And I could go all the way down, in fact up to the last shareholder meeting that's on their website up until 2007, it was always 4th week of June.

Even the last year's Partner Showcase on June 28th aired just a day before shareholders meeting when it didn't even need to as all of their first party titles were already announced until end of the year and it was only about third party.

Why are they doing a shareholders meeting this year earlier than they ever did? Are they airing Direct a day before on June 22nd? Like they did last year with Partner Showcase?

Either way, June 23rd is the last possible deadline when this June Direct is happening. The only question now is if it's next week or week after that. Nothing else is not even a option or question.

The Direct screens in June. It’s Takahashi and Koizumi with stinky horse headpieces on, playing 1-2 Switch for 40 minutes.

But wait! Then there’s One More Thing at the end. It’s Chibi Robo DLC for 1-2 Switch.

This prediction brought to you by Monkey Paw Productions

Looks like Retro Studios is still hiring for Prime 4. Very curious to see how that coincides with any potential announcements/updates from Nintendo.
On that subject, after reading the (excellent) article about the troubled development of Red Fall from Jason Schreier, and specifically the part about 70% of senior Arkane devs quitting the company, I wondered if some of them joined Retro Studios considering that both studios are in Austin, TX and that Arkane immersive sims and Metroid Prime 4 are kinda similar.

My cursory LinkedIn search did not turn up much of anything, but maybe there's a better source?

I was really hoping for the maximum Pikmin oxygen timeline but June would be fine I guess

It would be really funny if most of people who voted for September now change their vote to June because Nate voted and they see it as a hint of something. That's why I don't ever let changes of votes on my polls.

I think it's better to let people mull over it and discuss rather than trying to turn everything into a contest

I think it's fairly obvious that Nintendo know their shareholders will be too excited to concentrate on business during Everybody 1-2 Switch's launch week and so they're getting the meeting out the way before they all get overwhelmed by hype.

Team September need to get Grubb on their side. It's only June 5th and I was looking forward to at least 12 days of nonsensical videos such as "Nintendo ABANDONING Directs?" and "Switch's life is over: Nintendo have killed it RIP".

And then post June Direct we'll be treated to weeks of videos about how Nintendo took everybody off guard, that they're crazy and unpredictable, and who'd have thought they might want to market or release games.
