As long as there is no new standalone announcement that should have been in a Direct I see no reason to fear. Especially new Pikmin 4 trailer detailing night mode should be coming quite soon

pretty much everything would be explained by new hardware but it's allegedly just not happening
Exactly. The September direct was great, but only announced one first party game and it came out the same day. It's just very curious that they are going about it this way. But maybe some of the folks have it right and we will be getting a normal June direct than at least things will be a bit more normal for a bit.

okay so with the idea that Gamescom could just be for Zelda and Pikmin being repeated I am now of the opinion that the insidery types 100% have reason to believe Nintendo has no games

I have no clue how they'd have heard that but I feel that's the only way to reconcile the narratives being presented
How is "no games for second half 2023" reconciled with "8 games in the first 7 months of 2023", though? 8 games, multiple DLCs, two additional consoles for NSO by late July. I can buy there not being a Direct this month (as much as I think there probably is one), but it's the weak/non-existent software slate stuff that looks more baffling as time goes by.

Like sure, Nintendo could be wildly incompetent, but they've gone pretty steady software wise.

What they choose to bring to Gamescom has no impact on the lineup of releases to come. Public demos are chosen to maximize sales and exposure. If Nintendo announces Fire Emblem 4 Remake prior to Gamescom, it doesn't mean the game would be available for public demo. Demos take time to build & not every game needs a public demo.

Nintendo still has stuff coming in 2023. Doesn't mean Gamescom will be the venue for a demo.

Nate I'm not going to pry any further on Direct stuff, we'll see how it goes but; can we expect Xbox Games Showcase predictions sometime this week?
We should be recording the Xbox predictions tonight.

nothing, as I know this is not happening due to hardware
What about it is revealed for the new hardware after said hardware is announced? Like BotW in Switch trailer.

Idk, I just feel like 3D Mario deserves more than a 4 month hype cycle. Galaxy had its 18 months, Odyssey had a full year(or 10 months if you only count after title reveal).

If Switch 2 is holiday 2024 I don't see them talking about it until July (I mean Switch was a whole new concept and had a 4 month reveal to release cycle), and if it's early 2024 it's probably gonna get revealed in January. I definitely feel like 3D Mario deserves more.

Nintendo announcing Fire Emblem 4 before Gamescom! Prepping my Youtube video! Just need to finish photoshopping a big circle and arrow pointing to Sigur's head for the thumbnail.

Yeah, Tokyo games nowadays have a short reveal-to-release cycle. I expect it to be a hardware exclusive at this point so I don't see it being announced before new hardware. If it works for them, it's fine. But I suspect 2D DK will be no exception, reveal this September for a release by mid 2024.

No sign of a June Direct with literally nothing announced for the rest of the year after Pikmin is giving me big "we aint got shit, fam" energy. Like when was the last time a major Holiday release wasn't announced by June? Age of Calamity is the only instance I can think of, and that was just a Warriors game.

It's really starting to feel like Nintendo's release schedule is going to be absolutely dire until whenever the heck Switch 2 launches. Hard to imagine a drought starting now when the next console seems so far away, but...

That was during the deep times of the pandemic

But then why not save some of the H1 games for H2? Specially the more fillery releases like Return to Dream Land DX

It's been said before that this is what happened with Pikmin 3 Deluxe and Mario 3D World, although I'm not sure if that's factual

This is 100% where I'm at. Just at a stage where I'm totally happy with what we've got now. Of course I'd get hype if there is one, but right now I'm all vibes.

Same here, I'm really only in the thread cause I'm bored at work and like seeing what's going on. My vibes continue all month too since my second favorite series after Zelda is Final Fantasy, and of course we have FFXVI dropping in just a couple weeks. I'm probably good straight through to July -- like if we haven't heard anything by the time Pikmin 4 is actually releasing, then I'll start to feel like... what's next.

To me it just makes no sense to crowd things so much in the first half if you have nothing for the second, but yeah I'll start to get worried if we have nothing by the end of June

Not having announced stuff before now makes sense to me though because that's how Nintendo operates when they have a big game coming out (see New Horizons)

This super secrecy about upcoming games would make sense if we had new generation hardware this November, but it seems that is not the case so I'm not sure why Nintendo is being so tight lipped. Everything is set up for a normal General Direct this June, but the vibes feel completely off. We ususally have way more smoke around this time and now its just nothing.
If new hardware being this year would make everything make more sense, then perhaps the answer is as simple as that.

Pikmin 4 has been the last big thing I've been hoping for while watching directs over the past couple years. Now that it's actually coming, I'd be perfectly content not getting a direct until the next system (not that this is the actual case, obviously). I got what I needed out of this thing.

Recalling my list of Gamecube games I'd want to see make a comeback from January this year and some further additions I've since thought of,

First party games:
Custom Robo
Chibi Robo
F-Zero GX
Luigi's Mansion
Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door
Pokemon Colosseum
Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness
Pikmin
Pikmin 2
Starfox Adventures* (higher priority to me than Assault)
Starfox Assault
Super Smash Bros Melee (strictly for casual play; this is not to make Melee purists happy.)
Zelda: Wind Waker
Zelda: Twilight Princess

Third party games:
Amazing Island
Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg
Freedom Fighters
Killer7 (added this since someone posted last page about the devs retweeting something from Grasshopper)
Phantasy Star Online: Episode 1 & 2 Plus
Prince of Persia (any day now, Ubisoft...)
The Simpsons: Road Rage (I know Hit & Run is more popular, but I liked my Crazy Taxi re-skin more)
Sonic Adventure DX
Sonic Adventure 2: Battle (With connectivity to the NSO GBA app with Sonic Advance/Chao Garden)
Soul Calibur II (HD with all three guest characters, Bamco. Fuck. Why am I still asking for it now a generation later after it released?)
SSX Tricky
Timesplitter 2
Timesplitters: Future Perfect
Viewtiful Joe
Worms 3D

Do I expect them all? No, especially not from third parties, but if even a fraction of these come true I know I'd certainly be sated.

Any others that y'all want to see?

New Horizons came out right as the pandemic was spreading to western countries. It had already hit Japan earlier in the year. I remember at the time people wondering if there would be a February Direct because of rising cases in Japan. So I don't think a lack of new announcements around New Horizon's release is indicative of the norm.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Pikmin 4 is the last big original retail title coming out of Nintendo first party until Switch 2. They have a treasure trove of titles perfect for remastering and filling in the time between July and whenever the next system releases, we don’t need banger after banger after banger anymore with the current Switch. Not to mention smaller stuff like a Rhythm Heaven or Picross 3D Round 3. We could still be looking at a very exciting year for Switch, just not in the way of big original first party titles.

We're at a tie right now @LukasManak22, we need a motivational speech
As a leader of team June it's my duty and my destiny to lead us to victory. It will not be straight forward path, of course not. Along the way we have a lot obstacles and enemies but it does not matter. When we fight together, we are unstoppable. The outcome will be well deserved and all other people will look look up us.

If we somehow lose, am ready to sacrafise myself.

We need a Direct for a new Ace Attorney announcement. The year(s?) of Capcom continues.

I was in one in Buffalo a couple years ago, they had a copy that was going for at least twice that. It was kept in a glass case. They had basically nothing else left.

My life hack is that the cheapest used games I've found have actually all been from places you wouldn't think to look, like CD or thrift stores. For some reason an antique store I went to a few months back had Japanese copies of almost every PS1 Crash Bandicoot game.
Somebody left a big box of games on my dumpster. Mostly burned onto CDs, but a real copy of X-Men VS Street Fighter for the Saturn, including the manual, and a few other gems.

Seems like the vibe is no June Direct, which seems right given how news-adverse Nintendo have become in recent times.

July - Pikmin 4
August - Mario Kart DLC
September - F-Zero HD
October - Kirby
November - Hyrule Warriors: TOTK
December - Mario Kart DLC

I don't want to contradict myself, but I'm still going to (I'm so sorry) but no one has really noticed Nate hasn't (yet) killed the June Direct vote dream, something that almost always promptly follows to avoid misunderstanding.

Well what I went to was a Gamexchange, some of the prices were a bit insane, but I'd imagine it's gotten worse ever since the boom of people "grading" games.

One suggestion I saw was that Nintendo would be content to wait longer to do a Direct because Zelda is dominating conversation; but then Nintendo are going to let out a dirty great big wet fart at the end of this month, so I'm not sure silence until then is the best strategy.

Any talk of a Pokemon Presents? That also feels about due.

I think it's great to practice the act of not looking to deep into little things.

You guys realize ND Cube is more than due for a new game this year, right? They churn something out every year-year and a half these days, so we're more than due for something later this year (I'm guessing Mario Party, especially considering the lack of him this year so far)

I do hope that NDCube makes a new Rhythm Heaven game, they had done some kind of Rhythm Heaven-like mini games in Super Mario Party.

Honestly Superstars and Clubhouse was pretty much the first time I'd seen even a little competence in their work, not sure if I trust them with something like RH yet lol

Yeah, I also feel like that'll end up being our Mario helping for 2023.
