StarTopic The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom |ST| Linkin' Parts (Please Tag All Spoilers)

Arrived in Rito Village, which was one of my favourite locations in the last game.

I ignored the game's suggested method of circumventing the broken bridge, and built a very dangerous replacement bridge instead.

Exploring the cave under the first town was pretty amazing. Also I finally got to see a memory of Zelda and I like where the story goes. I immediately went to see more of the story by going searching for the second memory and eventually got sidetracked by a challenge on a sky island. They really did everything they can to upgrade every part of the botw experience and I like it.

Question:

Does anyone know if the light dragon follows some kind of pattern? I saw it everywhere until I needed to find her.[\spoiler]
The easiest time to find it is immediately after getting the last memory, as it is flying overhead and there’s a tower close enough that you can fast travel and get above it. Barring that I’ve seen it around Elden and in the Sky.

... Were clothing sets this expensive in Breath of the Wild? I remember the Gerudo male armour being expensive, but not the others.

I'm at the Goron quest, and burned up while diving down death mountain.

There are 2 solutions I can think of, and none of them sound particularly fun.

1. Save up money for an expensive armor (already have one, which cost all my money). Guess I need 2.

2. Grind a ton of fireproof lizards so I can make elixirs.

If you mean Lookout Landing, I spent last night doing that too!

I stopped anywhere I had to use ascend as a point of no return into the castle though, I want to save that for later.

Karson is not going to be happy with you

I’m thinking this game is going to take me 200- 300 hours to complete, I’m almost 90 hours in and my depths are only a quarter of the way filled out, haven’t visited half the sky islands, done about 50 shrines and have like 40+side quests to do, a bizzilion caves and wells to explore, so many new things on the surface too.
I’m thinking to myself what the heck have I been doing all this time? Last night I started at 10, was going to play till 12, started to realize it might be past 12, looked at the clock and it was 4:30am!

Beedle sells Fireproof lizards and I think he's programmed to always have at least 3 when near the stable on the path to death mountain.

Kind of a story spoiler, if you've seen the first tear cutscene you're good:

I like that the founders of Hyrule in this game are portrayed as a humanoid creature and dark skinned woman. Makes it feel a bit less problematic with the whole "dark skinned desert man invades and destroys kingdom full of blonde pale elves" premise of previous games.

Also, did anyone have any luck getting to a certain Shrine in the Lost Woods? Not the one you warp to in the Korok Forest, there is a shrine on a hill that I can't seem to get to. If you approach it on foot you get warped away. I can't find a good place to skydive into it either.

I think it’s more rupees seem harder to come by. Monster parts are generally more useful as weapon components so you have less incentive to sell, same with gems. You’re also incentivized to engage in combat more selectively since there’s no Mipha’s Grace safety net and Fairies are less common. It feels like there are more money sinks now as well.

Actually, yeah. I'm not sure if the prices are the same but the full Rito garb cost 1000s of rupees in BotW. I think the "issue" here is that it's a bit harder to get rupees in the early game.

The falling chunks from the sky don't really lead anywhere as Recall runs out before it gets high enough, so what are they for exactly? I think one time it led to a tiny little island, which I guess is supposed to be a place to use vehicles to reach the proper sky islands, but otherwise I'm at a loss. Is it just a way of paragliding down to Hyrule?

I'm 20 hours or so in, haven't reached the first main dungeon area yet and I've been to 1 mini-game island.

It's good having Hero's Path now in a base game but it's annoying that it's not automatically switching layers of the world, it shows a icon figure in which layer is recorded. I think this is something that could be patched, it would be a lot better.
how do i see hero's path? i dont see it in my map

Has anyone else found the
musician stuck in the pit with his wagon? I've not rescued him yet
and I don't know the coordinates. I wonder if he's modelled after a Nintendo staffer, he has that look about him.

I've found him and I thought he looks & sounds exactly like
the Hubby from Ring Fit Adventure.

Maybe just me.

Once, one led me to an island that had a treasure chest. But that was one time out of, let's say, twenty. So I'd say it's mostly for traversal purposes or as a way to get to the sky without fast-traveling or using other slower methods.

Found the Monolith Soft stuff in the depths near Necluda

Left Leg Depot? What is this, the Hylionis?

Also found an absurdly strong sword and shield in the Construct Factory, which I used to take down a gloomy Blue Hinox. Ended up getting a blood moon after I left, so I'll have to go back for seconds

So, some easy Rupee gathering tips:

The "Bring Peace to XXX" Quests always reset every blood moon even though they stay completed in the quest log. There are six in total and they will give you 100 rupees per clear. It's not much but it's an easy 600 every blood moon.

Once you have access to snowfield stable, go hunt the animals there, it should have a chance for gourmet meats. 3 Gormet Meats, 1 Rock Salt, and 1 Hylian Rice will give you a meal worth 198 rupees.

These are probably the easiest ways to level grind in this game.

Is that cave easy to find? I somehow haven't found it yet in many many hours of play, but I also need to go back to the first town anyway.

Fairly certain I did what they're referring to last night and if so the answer is yes. You're introduced to it through a side quest that becomes available after you clear your first dungeon.

Haha, I was exploring Hyrule Castle without really any intent. I’ve not even done my first dungeon, just messing around. I was riding a raft and found the docks of the castle and just kept going. Into the depths, defeating my first Lynel, tons of other hard enemies and suddenly I’m at the beginning of the game and then it clicked in my head. Oh shit I’m heading to the final boss. Such an amazing atmosphere and the music. When you get to the altar and jump down and then you get THAT ARMY holy shit. 3rd try I went for the super cheese strats and just ran away firing confusion and bomb arrows and defeated all enemies. Then I get the (I presume) wind temple boss and I realize it’s like BotW and you get a boss gauntlet if you didn’t do them. This is when I finally nope out. Still, an amazing experience all around.

I’ll be back in 2-3 weeks or so.

After complaining about not getting into the sky earlier, I am now at 1425 on the Z axis, and have found something rather scary up here in this corner of the sky.

Jeez, what a game. I only saw the three official trailers, so heading into the game blind has really done wonders for the wow factor.

Just arrived at the first dungeon.

  • I am taking my time to re-disover Hyrule, but jeez... so many new things to find and see. It's mindboggeling.
  • I'm really liking the caves and wells; makes Hyrule even grander
  • I like the fact that I don't have to climb the towers anymore for the maps
  • The sky islands are very cool. Especially the road towards the first dungeon is a wild ride. It was hype.
  • Game still has the same energy as Breath of the Wild. Oooh whats over there? Whats that?
  • The new tools are quite useful, but I'm bad at creating stuff.

Okay, y’all. Ganondorf time.

Master sword - check.
All main quests done - check.
Silver bokoblin-fused backup swords - check.
Upgraded gear - check.
Strong shields, loads of high-damage bows and shitton of arrows - check.
Full row of hearts - check.
2.5 wheels of stamina - check.
Bulldozer - check.

Wish me luck!

Found my first Gleeoks, including the gulp King Gleeok. Took a little time to get to it using a balloon/fan added to a metal platform, and as soon as I was in range of it, it killed me in one (I only have 5 hearts!). Then, exploring the sky islands I'd meant to explore, I spotted a frost Gleeok circling the Hebra mountains beneath me.

Can't wait to go back to them, powered up, and sky dive at them to attack.

I love when my refusal to leave a cave unexplored rewards me with a Shrine

I really love it when it's a Proving Grounds Shrine

God I still have a bunch of sidequests I wanna do before the third dungeon...

Each Shrine has an associated quest from a Korok, two of them were pretty straightforward, but one did require skydiving, maybe you need to get the quest first to open it?

Yes, the Light Dragon has a clockwise route circling Hyrule, I read that it takes 2 hours to complete the cycle. Dragon cycles are independent of the date/time ingame now, so it's harder to find them in specific spots.

Anyone found a good way of farming arrows?
I generally smash every crate and barrel I see, and that usually means I have anywhere from 40 to 100 arrows at a time. An axe breaks wooden stuff more quickly than everything else, so use one on crates and barrels.

Do you not get a dot on the map for the master sword if you learn it's locaction from the memories? Liberating the Deku tree gave me a moving tracker on the map which made it easy to find. I've not even done half the geoglyphs yet.

I’ve fallen into a state of total bliss inoculation. I’m so at ease with the abilities, the building, the movement, the map is becoming second nature, almost homelike but also a dreamscape of sorts. As above so below. A truly - truly - magical experience.

When I try and explain to people that games can justify and even transcend the medium, how they’re, at their core, the convergence of art, music, poetry - deified in code.

This is one of the most spectacular games I’ve played in my life. I’m besotted. This is my Ocarina.

Just happened upon my first proving grounds shrine. It was a beginner one, I hope they get more interesting.

Not sure, I did
The Deku Tree after getting the Master Sword. There was no dot, I just contextually figured out what to do when I saw the dragon was right there.

Thank you! This gives me a way to systematically search at least. I've been bouncing to random towers hoping to get lucky for about an hour and a half now lol. I was hoping to be successful before I have to go to work but didn't quite happen. Just like in life; you'll see something everywhere until you're actually looking for it

it's funny that despite all the little tweaks they did to inventory management, they left the message when you try to pick up an extra bow as "You can't carry any more of those" when the message for everything else (shields, melee weapons, meals) specifies what exactly you can't carry more of

You can also sell stuff. Most of my cash comes from selling off meals I’ve made. I just throw everything together as it fills out my recipe ideas and then sell off all the weird stuff

Just finished my second of the main quests, the Gerudo desert one.
Loved everything up to the temple, and enjoyed the boss fight ( I wasn’t sure how to avoid the tornado move, but it was probably down to me trying to hit the boss with the NPCs special move). Wasn’t so keen on the temple itself though. It wasn’t particularly long or complex, but it kinda felt both poorly explained and dull in places after the nth similar puzzle. I think it’s maybe that the shrines give you a lot of freedom in how to solve puzzles but the dungeons tend to need specific solutions, something they always have done. Which just goes to show the contrast between the two elements, I guess!

Also those guardian robots are getting really boring as enemies, and your allies lightning attack is so powerful it makes me really wonder why I’m stuck with such comparatively poor weapons. Rather than burn through my resources it seemed easier to just let her nuke everything.

I'm certain this must already have been shared but I just saw it on my YouTube home page.

I haven't tried this yet
