Guess I'll be the oddball and predict it scores in the high 80s, but eventually is looked back on as a much superior game to botw, even if that "zelda cycle" takes 10+ years.

I’m thinking high 80s to low 90s due to performance being brought up more this time round and a mixture of some people disliking that they’ve doubled down on the sandbox stuff, and others not feeling quite as blown away as they did with BOTW despite really enjoying TOTK.

Between 93 ~ 95

From what I could understand after reading impressions of people who played the game:
Those who prefer old Zelda will continue doing so but will like Totk more than BOTW.
Those who loved BOTW will like it a lot but it won't have the same impact.

Anyone predicting less than 91 is very brave lol. This game reviewing less than 90 I'm sure would internally be seen as a disaster and a failure by the dev team, and tbh I'd agree. Modern 3D Zelda should never score less than 91.

these are critics reviewing, not old school fans. Critics love sandbox stuff, also the performance was already fixed

I’ll trust Shinobi from Era, who is pretty tuned into reviews and the AAA space.

Q:
It’s gonna be interesting to see if it manages to recapture that magic of BoTW. I’m skeptical but it’s certainly the most hyped game of the year by most metrics
A:
No doubt there. From reviewers I've spoken with, it sounds like it runs circles around BotW.

Right, people keep forgetting that critics are a different audience entirely from hard-core fans, and imo are usually more capable of reviewing games based on what they are than what they aren't

Probably 93-96, even if most reviewers agree the game is better than BOTW I think it will be lower than it due to not having the first time magic. It’ll be like how most people say TLOU 2 is better than the first but rating wise it’s lower than the first game.

Totk wins this year.....
and i can see the next 3d Mario taking it in 2024. (Do we even have any big titles for next year besides Insomnaic's Wolverine?)

85. It'll be reviewed as good but it won't have the same impact as botw did and thus there are going to be a lot of reviewers dragging the numbers down even if there are plenty of full marks still.

crazy that we still don't know when the embargo is. has this happened before with a nintendo game?
not that there's many options left but usually we have the exact day and hour a few days before release.

It’s over

EDIT: tweet got deleted. It was Chris Schilling of EDGE saying “Current review game was always going to struggle to live up to previous review game but yeesh.”

:(

An unfortunate tweet since EDGE is still the most highly valued MC publication, I believe?

EDIT: Wait, his twitter profile says he's a game critic for Total Film. Deputy Editor of Edge, but I don't think he writes their reviews?

EDIT 2: Uhhhhhhhhh /s, I hope?

I imagine he could be talking about a different game entirely as the "current review game", as the TotK review is likely already finished by this point.

He also has a tweet that for people that buy Zelda it won't be Zelda Week but a Zelda year. Even if they review lower than BotW it won't be that much lower.

If he is indeed referring to TotK and the screenshot I linked above isn't just a shitpost from Chris, then sticking to a 95 is probably going to be difficult. I'm still not convinced he would just leak the score though lmao, but this doesn't bode very well for Edge.

Oof, that doesn't quite read like a troll to me

Yeah this is a big hit for a MC average, pretty worrying

To me it sounds like he is saying the game he is currently reviewing wasn't going to live up the game he just recently reviewed. I don't think it meant game in specific series wasn't going to live up to the previous game of that same series.

My only copium is, like...would he really just post the score like that? And would he leak the EDGE review if he's not necessarily the person reviewing it? Sounds like he's a Game Critic for Total Film and Deputy Editor for Edge.

This exactly, he's obviously not going to leak that they gave TotK a 6

To consider an 89 disastrous is disastrous in itself.

Wait, you're absolutely right lmao. My reading comprehension became irrevocably borked as soon as I saw EDGE and 6 in the same tweet.

previous review game

Calm down people. No one will dare to give TotK a 6 lol

What other games are out now that they would be reviewing? Horizon DLC? Redfall? When does the issue even run?

Would be funny if it's his Redfall score and the previous game was TOTK. Anyone want any of this hopium I'm huffing?

I feel like such a dumbass lol

Lunch margaritas and immense excitement/anxiety for TotK are coloring my perception 😅
