I think the mentality there is it's easier (not easy, let me make that clear lol) to get a 94 twice in a row than it is a 97.GOW Ragnarok scored the same though so I don't see why this is any different

I don't really think this is why some think it would be "catastrophic." Um we kinda just mean how people will overreact lmao.I don't think the game scoring 92-94 would be anything catastrophic. It doesn't define the game and doesn't direct compare it to BotW because the context in which they were released was/is vastly different.
Bayonetta 3 scored 6 points lower than 2, and that's a hell of a good game, most criticized thing was technical stuff and a lot of aging hardware and Switch 2 arguments were thrown. I don't expect the same to happen to TotK because it's one of the best looking games in the system, but it's inevitable it'll be thrown around too.
Metroid Dread is one of the best games of all time and it's got an 88. I think we can agree each 2D Metroid game is a step up from the previous and Dread is the culmination of everything of best in the series, and realized with masterful controls and visuals. It didn't automatically made it get a 90+.
I'd be very surprised if this game got 94- or 97+, but it can happen. And I'm sorry of it comes off as pessimism but I think a 93 is more likely than a 98.
I still think it's gonna be like 95 and I hope it gets the 97, it really deserves this.
There's no way it scores lower than 96. Ppl keep saying that the review landscape is different now which I don't see it at all. Didn't Gow Ragnarok scored 95 by being the safest sequel ever?
Based on the impressions so far Totk is not a Bote sequel, it's a landmark in video games that will evolve sandbox gaming in a higher degree.
This is locked 96 and I can see going up to 98. It all depends how many 5/10 clickbait contrarians will metacritic take in account. For example I can see Kotaku giving it 7/10 just to spite Nintendo for blacklisting them.

The Four Horsemen of the Famiboards Apocalypse:i can already tell some of yall are gonna get the review thread "temp lock while we go thru reports" if anyone gives it a score below 9
Exactly. Top 3 Zelda game for me.The real tragedy here is Minish cap only getting an 89.
Most likely. But then again, if it's really big and creative and full of wow-moments, I can see a 97.95, got 0 doubts lol, reviews will be a bit harsh about perfomance/playing on old hardware, plus although totk will be the better game, it will not impact as much as botw for obvious reasons
Some expect them on ThursdayWhen are the reviews coming?

shinobi602 said:No doubt there. From reviewers I've spoken with, it sounds like it runs circles around BotW.
Going by the leaks, I think 96-97. This game is basically Zelda's Galaxy 2 and I'm all for it.
I also wanna remind people that prior to Breath of the Wild most Nintendo games scored between the high 70s and low 80s (hell, Star Fox Zero is on the 60s lol).
I'm not convinced about that. While it has much less reviews, the Wii U version still has a 96, and honestly, the performance it's pretty much the same.BOTW was a launch title for a brand new Nintendo console that shed the Wii U's toxic image baggage and had a hell of a Gee Whiz factor with being "Holy Shit! A Massive Open World HD Zelda Game On A Handheld!" going for it.
You can't exactly compare the Wii U era games directly with the Switch era because of that. Likewise, TOTK is going to have the aging Switch hardware narrative as a drag factor that will influence its review scores.
Review scores are just as much a reflection of the zeitgeist surrounding a game as a reflection of the game's quality itself; if not even moreso. Perhaps the best example of this is comparing the review scores of Soul Calibur 1 to Soul Calibur 2. SC2 is widely considered to be the better game (and is usually considered the best game in the series by fans), but the review scores aren't even close to what SC1 got because the wow factor of "Better Than The Arcade!" was lost on people during the PS2/GCN/Xbox era and didn't resonate the same way as it did with the Dreamcast.
I am going to be very upset. Then I'm going to go on twitter and all the message boards and make hate threads on the reviewers who gave it less than a 90. This game, although I have not played a minute of it, is OBVIOUSLY a 97. Anyone who thinks otherwise is an idiot.I hope people predicting 97-98 won't be disappointed if the game scores a 93-95. Still absolutely amazing no matter what - Metroid Dread scored an 88 and that's probably in my top 10 games of all time. We just have to remember that the insanely difficult task of achieving what BotW and Mario Odyssey did in 2017 is going to be even harder now.
Well....GTA 4 is a bad game lol. First and only game I ever bought and then returned like a couple days later. I never return games but that was an atrocity of a game.GTA IV is a bad game and got 98, TotK has to get 99.

Hell yeah, the /s was on TotK being bad if it doesn't outscore it, not of GTA IV being bad lol.I am going to be very upset. Mario galaxy is a less technically demanding game relatively, we've seen through previews that totk suffers from performance issues while mario galaxy was at least a stable 30fps. Also, it's been 15 years since then, standards changeBy this logic super mario galaxy should have gotten points docked for being on the wii right? This logic makes no sesense
I can't see it getting that high as BOTW. If it does, it wii crush any imaginable 1month sales ever.
I see it getting something like 92-94. People are really bitter because this game doesn't accompany a Switch 2. It must be something really out of this world to some people see beyond the void of prejudice.
I actually expect Nintendo to release a new switch by the end of the year with a deluxe version of zelda. If this happen, many will review their criticism and we will be like... what?

I don't want to link to the purple forum, so I'll just quote the text.

Like other people are saying, I think this game is gonna be praised because of how well it runs despite being such an ambitious title, if anything.
I did a search and couldn’t find this post on Era :/Oooh love to hear shinobi saying this
Tears of the kingdom will also benefit because although BotW was a magical experience it left many areas to be easily improved like enemy variety and dungeons. I think the games shear scale and improvements over BotW will convince lots of reviewers to score higher or the same. May be a few outlets that dock for covering a lot of the same ground but this will be few.
It’s in the playstation OT, funnily enoughI did a search and couldn’t find this post on Era :/
