Oh, and Nintendo Switch Sports too.

However, the mention of MP4 does not appear in every published ads, including as a description of Retro Studios
yes, but I'm not willing to commit to it being relevant to the ad yet. placement et al matters and the relevant parts of the ad doesn't make any mention of the work being done for Metroid Prime 4 (or anything else for that matter). I'm not discounting it, but even if it was, I don't believe this is for anything worrying for MP4

I mean, what else can i say? Chances are its for mp4 because that is what we know they have been working on and it is a huge gwme that demands several positions.

It could be for the reboot of startropics too but until thqt is announced ofc im gonna assume its for mp4.
If you assume all hiring that Retro does has to be Prime 4, then of course you're going to assume that Prime 4 isn't done, because Retro is always hiring. It's not helpful. We know Retro is working on an "unannounced game" because several artist and writer portfolios have been updated over the last year, as well as LinkedIn profiles.

It's not uncommon for studios to mention a project their working on as an indication of the kinds of games they make, when the project they are hiring for is under NDA. And Retro has explicitly said they were hiring contract positions for Prime before, without hiding it in any way. So while it's certainly possible for this to be Prime related, it's not a slam dunk

So what happened to Hideki Konno? I was looking at the credits of some devs and I noticed how his last game was in 2019 with Mario Kart. Is he still at Nintendo? I guess he's still involved with the mobile games but its been a while since we heard anything from him

Yeah, his last credit is Tour in 2019. The state of EPD mobile group right now is unclear. It might not exist at this point Konno probably have some involvement in next Mario Kart game for Switch successor due to his long relationship with Mario Kart series.

They all say that. Read any of their employees on LinkedIn and they’re always promoting hirings for MP4. The game isn’t finished. They haven’t let go of any contractors either.
it makes me happy that despite retro's shaky past (talking about the employee exodus that happens everytime an era ends in there) they have been extremely successful in hiring star players for mp4 : )

It either means that they managed to go from a mismanaged studio to a well managed studio, or MP4 is just that interesting of a production.

Hopefully both : )

What actually happened to Hideki Konno? I looked at some developer credits and found that his last game was released in 2019 with Mario Kart. Is he still with Nintendo? I'm guessing he's still involved with the mobile games, but it's been a while since we've heard from him.
If Konno's EPD Group continues to have plans, it would make sense for him to produce a new version of Nintendogs+Cats. This is both a series that Konno has worked on extensively, as with Mario Kart, and a universe that, like Animal Crossing, seems very well suited to the specifics of smartphone games.

I understand Nintendo's need to diversify their business, especially now that they have consolidated their console operations into a single architecture. I can't see Nintendo abandoning the important market of games for smartphones. Still, I have a hard time not exactly disliking the waste of EPD talent on this market. Konno has so many better things to produce than pay-to-win crap.

If we take a look at Nintendo's previous mobile games, Miitomo, Dragalia Lost, and Dr. Mario World just shut down. The pay model tried with Super Mario Run isn't working, and the most recent Nintendo licensed release, Pikmin Bloom, isn't even published by EPD, but directly by Niantic. The only three commercially viable games are Fire Emblem Heroes, Animal Crossing Pocket Camp, and Mario Kart Tour. In other words, the only business model that works commercially is the microtransaction crap, which I think is in direct opposition to EPD's philosophy and DNA.

Three months late, but I went through the credits for One Piece Odyssey and there was very little crossover between it and BDSP when comparing the design and programming staff. Only two planners and four programmers. I didn't go through the art staff because they're much more likely to be moved onto outsource and non-gaming projects, considering ILCA's history.

The other staff could have been moved over to Bandai Namco Aces, but considering how well BDSP sold and that ILCA also assisted on Scarlet/Violet, I'd now be even less surprised to see another Pokemon project in the future.
I'm a bit late for this, but i'll reply anyways :p

Very interesting find! Thank you for this find. I didn't know ILCA was involved with Scarlet and Violet? I thought they were only involved with BDSP and Home.

Anyhow, i'd love to see ILCA tackle a Johto game, something like a faithful remake of HGSS in the engine of BDSP (with the obligatory removal of the battle frontier, let's stay realistic everyone :p)

Does this suggest anything about potential release timing? Eg would you expect hiring for all parts of the game (including QA testing etc) would be done at least X months before its release?
nothing. and no.

ILCA was on a lot of support work until recent where they broke out with Bamco games and Diamond and Pearl remake

Mercury might surprise us😉
Mercury Steam isn't big enough to have two games going at once, and they're working on original IP at the moment. Generally, it takes 3-4 years for them to release a game, so the earliest Mercury Steam could deliver Metroid 6 would be 2027

Hypothetically, if Nintendo wanted to release a remaster of Samus Returns between the release of Metroid Prime 4 and the release of Metroid 6, could they realistically pull it off with developers other than Mercury Steam?

Weren't they working on Samus Returns and Metroid Dread at the same time they were working on Spacelords?

I can see the Spacelords team working on the new IP and the "Metroid Team" working on Metroid VI. I do agree with your release timing, though. I would think they would want to space out Metroid titles. So maybe MP4 in 2024 and Metroid VI in 2026 or 2027.

I haven't looked at anything TotK and want to be spoiler free for this one (and it's prohibited to talk spoilers out of the spoiler thread) but lately I was thinking that Daiki Iwamoto might be Director, alongside Fujibayashi. I know back when it was announced Aonuma only said that "Fujibayashi is coming back as a Director" but that's vague as it gets and Iwamoto don't really have any presense in West just yet. Worth noting that Iwamoto was also appointed as member of board of directors at Monolith Soft. I guess we will find out next week. But he is actually 3 years older than Fujibayashi so who knows.

I wouldn't expect Project Iron to be their only thing in development. Based on the publishers involved, and the known budget(~$30m), it wouldn't be indictive of something that could sustain a studio of their size at full dev, at least not for very long anyway. Similarly we can look back and see that they were working on Space Lords and Scraplands Remastered during the development of Samus Returns and Dread, so they've been operating with two teams for some time now.

Not to say thar they are for sure are working on more Metroid/Nintendo stuff, but definitely likely they have something else in dev right now besides Project Iron.

Iwamoto and Miyanaga are more assistant/co-producers/production managers. That has been their role at PG.03. Fujibayashi is not going to share the director role after BOTW.

Do we even know who is the Group Manager(s) of EPD3? It's gotta be Iwamoto and Miyanaga but of course we don't have that official confirmation. Hopefully Ask The Developer next week will give us exactly that. Altough it may be just Aonuma, Fujibayashi, Takizawa, Dohta and Wakai for music. The same PR as it was with BOTW.

All the EPD mobile games were presumably his work. Specifically Super Mario Run, Fire Emblem Heroes, Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, and Mario Kart Tour are all games he produced. 4 of those are ongoing games he is technically still managing.

It isn't on their site, but the credits list them under "Planning Partners" and "Story Partners" alongside other support studios, so they were likely involved with the modelling/animation for cutscenes and overall game design.

some findings
Game Design team is more than 2x bigger
Phanta rey engine/Deep down/Crytek graphics programmer Daisuke Shimizu worked on the game
The Character Art Director from Last Gaurdian also
NERD worked on game itself,on programmign related to graphics.physics programming, lot of western names, Monolith worked on technical art and programming related to graphics
The contracts i found on linkedin from Aug 2019 - Dec 2022 were fot this game
Corey Bunnel has a pretty important position
Artist from From Software, one that worked on Elden Ring, other Demons Souls 3,some staff from Capcom but thats not even news, its the company nintendo poaches the most
Fun fact : of the 5 level designers that worked on resident evil 7, nintendo got 3,every new first party release theres someone new from the resident evil 7 team, they poached 12 or 13 devs from this specific game lol
Nintendo Pictures is credited

Persona 5 Lead Planner/Persona 4 Golden Director Daiki Ito is credited on Monolith Side, they also hired his brother Ako Ito Lead Designer from Persona 4 Golden
Fumiya Obata from Alpha Dream also credited on Monolith part

I'm not sure if i should post this in a Pokemon Center thread, in the hardware speculation thread or here.

But i'll just post it here anyway.

If there's a new mainline Pokemon game in late 2024 (could be a remake) do you think it will release for the Switch, Nintendo's next platform or both

probably cross gen. the Drake game card would just be the switch version with a higher frame rate and resolution

Hard to tell with TPC. Black and White 2 release on the DS a full year after the 3ds. Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon came out on the 3ds several months after the switch came out. It really could go either way I guess. You'll probably be able to play it on the next system cause I think the going belief is that it will be BC. So like a Black/White 2 situation.

At this point the entire Zelda team is just former capcom staff, which I think has been true for a while lol.

Very cool that NERD had a part in the game, this would be their 3 game they have worked on (Ring-Fit and Switch Sports), not counting Mario All-Stars.
