Film The Super Mario Bros. Movie |ST| But first, we need to talk about Cinematic Universes (Open Spoilers)

So with the lore implication that Kongs are responsible for building Karts, I accept this as being the background lore for the Mario Kart games.

This is also why Funky Kong was top tier in Mario Kart Wii all along. Not only is he a Kong, but a mechanics expert.
It also makes sense because "Kong Karts" totally fits the "Make everything start with a K" the Donkey Kong Country series has.

Every film journalist has two images saved on their desktop, waiting to see how things pan out.

In my mind, the Kongs have a Go-Kart culture because they used to ride the mine carts in the abanodoned mines around their kingdom and wanted to have that available everywhere outside of the mines, so they went and "invented" Go-Karts. ^^

Agreed, and I do hope if they do another Mario movie they will go back to these two directors to do it again, since I do feel like none of my problems with the movie are things I want removed from it, as much as it are "there are things I wanted more of", and I tend to take that as a sign that despite flaws the team did manage to make something that was fun.
I agree with keeping the directors. They have the right team and those guys got Mario, Luigi and great action down pretty well. Just improve the pacing and inject more emotional moments or/and extend the emotional moments next time and we're good.

Looks like word of mouth is pretty good, and there's no family competition until late May. No animated competition until early June either. If this opening weekend holds, 1 billion is a lock.

Just got back home from cinema and I loved it. Iwata in the credits teared me up really. Did I miss a Pikmin reference or wasn't it there at all? Miyamoto what are you doing??
Yeah, I haven't heard anything about a Pikmin cameo. Miyamoto slacking 😔
There is apparently a Pikmin reference:
In the fancy apartment at the start of the movie.

So glad we're getting a CD release of this, was worried that iam8bit was only going to do a vinyl (and cassette for God-knows what reason). A bit annoyed they're not shipping until later in the year though, I'll probably end up double-dipping on digital tomorrow and CD later.

So, uh, something else I realized after watching the movie—Toadsworth really is never coming back, huh? They replaced what would essentially have been his role with a blue Toad with glasses. Even Toadette couldn’t appear in person, interestingly. It’s just weird to see, ‘cause Toadsworth was specifically created as a mainline Mario character, not some weird spin-off creation…

(Also, I just realized that this thread isn’t actually posted in Treehouse; it’s actually in The Roost but linked to in Treehouse…yet, annoyingly, that seems to permanently mark the thread as read when viewed in Treehouse even if there are new posts, but then clicking it always takes you to the beginning of the thread as if you’ve never visited it before. That also explains why I’ve been missing this thread so much compared to the review and impressions threads, because I’ve been automatically ignoring it because it’s never bolded in Treehouse, and I don’t use The Roost here… Why was this posted in The Roost anyway when all the other threads about the Mario movie are in Treehouse, along with plenty of other threads that aren’t specifically about a video game but are still very much related to gaming like this is?)

I thought it was just me, or that I was going crazy.

It's a very bizarre situation for him. They were fine with his revival for the recent Mario and Luigi remakes, despite those remakes getting rid of some unique Toad designs.

Guess we're just supposed to assume Toadsworth fuckin died????

I remember some of those old rumors from last year saying Toadsworth was gonna be in this that turned out to be bunk.

It also mentioned "female toads" beyond Toadette. To be frank that should of been a big red flag of it being fake right then and there lol

Yeah, I was so confused at first too until I realized what was going on. Would’ve been better to just put it in Treehouse with the other threads, especially if you’re gonna just link to it there anyway. I imagine most people interested in this thread are gonna be checking Treehouse rather than The Roost, after all, so putting this thread in The Roost just makes it annoying and cumbersome for most people here unless you regularly check The Roost alongside Treehouse…

About spinoff movies, I feel a Captain Toad spinoff movie could work. They can introduce Toadette as the sidekick, and have Wario/Birdo be the antagonists as well a la Wario’s Woods.

I really appreciate how much DK love went into this movie. Even though we haven't gotten a DK game in a while, it's clear this franchise is still Miyamoto's baby. Really hope that EPD is cooking up that rumored DK game.

I completed reading this thread using only half-a-mouse click. /jk

Is this a good place to discuss lore? I'm sick and tired about discussion regarding review scores...

Yeah. I’m weirdly interested in the history of Nintendo on the movie world. Is Kid Icarus the flagship series in absence of Mario? And is Punch-Out Pizza owned by Little Mac or another character from the series, or is it just a boxing themed restaurant?
