Thinking about games to bring to the trip. I've decided against Persona 3, and will perhaps go with I Was a Teenage Exocolonist instead. Anyone played it? What are your thoughts?

Is this about Dredge, the game where you go out fishing for weird stuff? Not really sure what they are expecting to find outside of some terrifying sea creatures. I guess things like women having jobs is terrifying to these throwbacks
Yup, it's about that Dredge. How does the mind of a person like this work?

Losing my mind trying to understand what "woke soundtrack" means

This explains it! I knew something was up with RE4's soundtrack when, in the middle of a tense Ganados fight, lyrics came on and started singing about the lasting legacy of colonialism and how it's transpired into modern-day capitalist imperialism. Thought it was kind of out of place ngl.

(Seriously though, I am genuinely curious as to what is ‘woke’ about RE4’s soundtrack?)

Racking my brain trying to figure this out too

Ah perhaps “woke” means the enlightening of the human mind to horrors beyond understanding, seconds before the mortal brain crumbles to dust under the weight of forbidden knowledge
“In his house at R'lyeh dead Cthulhu waits dreaming.” Yeah I’m gonna say staying woke in eldritch horror games is a good thing when an insane tentacular elder god from dimension x wants to talk to you in your dreams.

Seriously though, I’m still stuck on the RE4 soundtrack

The only “woke” soundtrack I can think of is Evanescence’s “wake me up inside” on repeat

(And probably other songs about dreams and waking up but it’s early and brain go slow)

I have to assume it means a soundtrack for which a woman/queer person/PoC was involved at some point ; never forget the rule:

Yeah. The chud logic of media analysis-
Straight white man- protagonist
Straight white woman- allowed if part of the supporting cast as a sexy love interest
Absolutely any divergence from this template- clearly dangerously woke

This meme used to have ‘political’ on the right, but then as that clearly made it’s point chuds swapped out its use for attempting to claim terminology for both awareness of social injustice and general empathy as an insult, a dogwhistle, a movement and something to be frightened of. The level of fragility required is off the chart. Or rather, on this one.

I saw there was some gamers harassing the voice actor for Ada Wong in RE4 over her performance, I wonder if it’s got anything to do with that (I don’t really follow RE at all).

Could someone please visit the worst parts of the Internet and figure out why RE4's soundtrack is woke? I am just racking my brain.

Also, does Dead Space just not have gendered bathrooms? Why would the Ishimura have gendered bathrooms anyways?

Folks, I'm starting to think people are dumb.

Sometimes I think people post stuff like that just to get a reaction, because here we are, multiple posts deep talking about a post on another forum.

What I think when I hear "woke soundtrack":

I would actually try to look into what they mean by that, but the last time I searched something woke-related, Youtube went full "Oh, so you're into that, huh? I got you covered!" and spent God knows how long recommending me videos by alt-right lunatics complaining about everything. Not worth it.

(also, hi, everyone! I haven't posted here in a while)

Does anyone skip some games because they run poorly or sub-optimal on switch? I tried octopath 2 demo and I lost interest in game. Im really worried dragon quest 3 releases before switch 2 ;( I would be interested in getting silksong and eiyuden chronicles for handheld despite them releasing in gamepass, but I cant stand the though of playing the worst versions of games that dont look really demanding.

It seems unlikely that Silksong will have issues on Switch.

The dedication to creating a whole ass new thread for the bit is as awe-inspiring as it is hilarious.

I commend and salute your dedication to the bit, @Josh5890 🫡

30fps with drops + its blurry, looks weird like there's vaseline on screen. I dont know if other versions suffer the same, but it was so noticable to me even during fights.
I played for 80 hours in portable mode and didn’t notice much, but then I rarely do notice performance issues at all unless they are literally a slideshow. I can see why if you’ve got multiple platforms and want fidelity>portability that you’d want to play on the best one for the stuff that matters to you though.

Blurrier than the first? That one looked somewhat soft already, I'd say, but then again the postprocessing was rather heavy.

Some less important corporate takeovers take months to resolve but Famiboards took over Segaboards in a matter of hours.
Clearly the OpSec team learned nothing from the Wario take over

Also let’s just rename the site to JapaneseConsoleBoards. Everyone wins, even the SNK and Turbo fans 😄

I believe the “woke soundtrack” actually is about cutting dialogue lines to not objectify a teenager. Clearly part of the woke agenda.

As interested as I am in the Mario movie, I'm more interested to see how it impacts hardware and software sales. Like I went to a couple of stores in my area that sell video games and I saw plenty of Mario Day bundles still in stock (most of the Mario games were still out of stock, though). I want to see how fast those fly off shelves (if at all) once the movie releases.

I'm thinking the combination of Mario Day bundles + Mario Movie hype + TotK hype (both the game release and the special edition OLED) has to have some effect.

I heard if you play the score backwards you can hear the subliminal messaging: “Buy the Switch. It’s halfway through its lifecycle. There is no Switch Pro.”

It's still pretty wild to me that there's not a new Mario game even in the same relative vicinity of the movie release. I guess from Nintendo's perspective they have plenty of legacy Mario titles (that are still full price) and people who decide to bite on a Switch and a game after seeing the movie are the kind of brand new customers who don't have any of them yet, but still. If Mario mania is going to be in full swing post-movie it just feels like having a brand new Mario title would fit perfectly in that environment. I guess delays and timing have a lot to do with it, since Zelda was delayed and the Switch is in its (maybe?) last fiscal year now (ish).

I'm just so curious to see what the future looks like and what's going to happen post-Zelda this year. It's going to be a really interesting summer (even if it's actually quite boring and we mostly just make it interesting ourselves :p)

The biggest influence the movie will have will be on Mario game sales. Watching the movie will probably put a lot of people in the mood to play Mario so they'll hop to the store or the eShop to pick up any Mario games that they currently don't own. As for hardware, I think it will have an effect but to what degree, I am not sure. If this was a few years ago, I have no doubt that the movie would cause a substantial boost in hardware sales. But now, the Switch market is close to saturation. Most everyone who was interested in a Switch already has one. At this point Nintendo is trying to sell to kids who are just now getting into gaming for the first time and the least interested adults. The kids won't be a hard sell but for the adults, they are probably less likely to even see the Mario movie in the first place and it even if they do, the movie will have to convince them to get into (Nintendo) gaming.

Wow, BotW’s Master Mode does not mess around. This is gonna be an interesting way to replay it.

Unsure who needs to hear this but my son thinks the Sega sound effect is very funny.

Hmmm... do taxes or play Splatfest?

This was posted in the Zelda thread, but we are only 40 days out from TOTK:

Corollary of that is we are 54 days out from a Nintendo Direct at the earliest

We're getting close to overdue for an Indie World too

Apparently some people paid to see a screening of Midsommar Director's Cut plus a 10 minute preview of Beau is Afraid and instead what they got was a surprise viewing of the full Beau is Afraid movie with the director and Joaquin Phoenix, followed with a Q&A moderated by Emma Stone.

I wish someone would play me a prank like that.

I was thinking the woke soundtrack is the idiots complaining about Ada being voiced by an Asian voice actor since they're currently sending her threats that target her race and gender. Since we all know any race not white is woke. /s

man, Blue Reflection Second Light is AMAZING. and (at least in the localization? not sure about the JP version) all the characters are in college, so... people get that "college aged RPG" thing i see people begging for.

Sega fans are so spoiled having two Sonic movies already. Mario’s just catching up here, give him a break.

technically, Mario has the 86 film that released in theatres, and the 90s movie.
