some deets on this pls? maybe spoilered?

my sisters are gonna get the games and I wanna warn them if it's gonna be bad
if they want the games and are planning to get them anyway, do you necessarily need to give them a heads up that it’s bad based on leaks that may not be representative of the day one product?

and also, something I always ask myself (even though I’m less picky than most of you unless I have a fun soapbox to shred on) is that… we’re obviously here, in an enthusiast space, as enthusiasts. Are other people gonna know a game is bad if we don’t tell them it’s bad? Or are they just… gonna maybe have a good time and have their own thoughts on it, and might be interested to know how that compares to popular opinion, or maybe not give a shit?

like I may be way out of my lane and I obviously don’t know what parts of Pokémon your sisters like and dislike. I just feel like sometimes the dynamo is a little too spinny, y’know? Like we’re eating the sandwich before we make it. Like the moon’s not the only thing in the sky. Like whose sled is it anyway? y’know? like who hook hand man car dog air dog? like how many wheels can a bitmap turn? like does the wind even know your name? y’all? y’fuckin’know?

for the love of god what's actually wrong with it
So, from what I've gathered, the games are based entirely around Diamond and Pearl, and pretty much ignore changes that were made in Platinum. All of the wild Pokémon, trainer teams, story events, and other parts are identical or very close to the original games, with typing and movests being updated to match SwSh's with other little changes to opponent's movesets here and there. This applies to the post-game as well, which is pretty much beat for beat identical to D/P. The game keeps features such as the universal EXP share that cannot be turned off and affection bonuses, which can affect one's difficulty when playing the game. The music is also kind of messy right now, appearing to be reinstrumentations of the original tracks rather than new compositions, even though trailers for the game have new compositions.

We have to wait for the game to come out before drawing any conclusions. However, it was clear from the start that BDSP were bare bone remakes, developed for the first time by a different company than GF, which is also their first real game from start to finish, in a short period of time.
I don't think what ILCA offers is what GF will deliver with Legends Arceus. This game has been in development for at least 2.5 to 3 years with the expertise of Game Freak.

one of my sisters is a gamer and my best friend, the other is based and will not care

I am not concerned about ruining their experience, I simply enjoy talking to them

this seems like nothing tbh

kinda disappointed, it sounded like a disaster

Tell them to get the superior SMT V instead.
And if they do....ask them what they think of Mara.

I'm confused by people saying to wait for the release of BDSP before judging it given we have (or, at this point, maybe had) a lot of videos of the gym battles and boss fights, plus some route videos all from a retail copy. The only things that seem likely to change between now and release date are...
The extremely placeholder-sounding and bad battle music and graphical glitches which will hopefully be fixed by a Day 1 patch.
Am I missing something? Most of the other complaints don't seem likely to be changed between now and release, or frankly between now and ever.

so… it sounds like most of that is what they said from the beginning?

Those things you mentioned are exactly what I'm talking about waiting to judge it on. For the rest, sure, that's not likely to change, and you'll probably know if that is for you or not!

I was mostly referring to how much fervor there's been about the 'broken' stuff that could definitely be patched, since that's mostly what I've seen people reacting to.

oh, okay! yeah that’s chill then, as long as it’s “I wanna shoot the shit with my family pals” and not “I have to deliver this grave warning lest they ~ e n j o o o o y ~ c r i i i i n g e ~ ! . o o o o o o o o o o !”

imagine that in a spooky voice, idk why though, I’m spooning the third rail of the abyss tonight

Ohhh, gotcha! Most of the reactions I've seen have been to the design decisions rather than the broken-but-probably-gonna-be-patched stuff. Just a difference in what we've seen, then!

There’s no way Nintendo has changed
their plans due to the backlash. None.

As for when the next games will drop, if I had to guess I’d say December. I think this month is too soon after the launch of the Expansion Pack to expect new NSO games.
Reviewtechusa seems to think they will

I saw Truth or Dare.

I think it’s suppose to be a horror film. But those faces makes me think it’s a comedy with how stupid it looked on everyone.

Unintentionally hilarious so worth a watch.

I really should learn by now. Zeltik, a Zelda Youtuber, put out an 18 minute asking if Ganon should return after BOTW 2. 15 minutes of it were spent on Ganon through the Zelda timeline. The last 3 minute is where he actually answers his own question.

Probably the best sunshine review imo

”it’s the most polished half finished game ever made” (next to MGSV but that hadn’t come out by the time of the review lol)

There is no universe where Sunshine is a half finished game, this shows how spoiled Nintendo fans were coming from the N64. Mario 64 was literally the GOAT. Even though Sunshine had half the worlds, it was still a big game. The blue coins and such are honestly better and more varied than most extra collectibles in contemporary games. Sunshine was still by far the premier 3D platforming game of its time. You had people overhyping Jak for having voice acting, “no load times” and covering all of the usual themed levels but in fact it’s literally discount Mario/Banjo with terrible controls and vapid level design. I’d rather play Sunshine over any of these other mediocre 8 hour games

Same thing with how people call Wind Waker unfinished because it has less dungeons than OOT and a few repetitive/iterative islands. Meanwhile everyone gave a pass to Beyond Good & Evil for being a new IP despite it having only three “dungeons”. The optional content was mostly repetitive minigames, Wind Waker’s sidequests were overall very good. If you want to pick on a Gamecube game for being half finished, Star Fox Adventures is right there. Literally falls apart during the second half

Not unfinished but def rushed at least for wind waker.

This isn't really Nintendo related, but holy shit Sony Pictures needs to hire some fucking security. A bunch of No Way Home images just leaked, showing Tobey Spidey, Andrew Spidey, and fucking Daredevil. It's a few images and comparing them to shots in the trailer reveals background details are the same. Jesus Christ Sony.

Mario Sunshine is awesome. One of Mario’s best movesets with the tornado jumps paired with the Fludd. Lots of great variety in the levels and challenges and the best hub world to enjoy jumping around in with Delfino Plaza.

I think only the Pachinko level lives up to its reputation and it could have used a tracker/journal of some sort for the blue coins (which were basically Odyssey’s moons before Odyssey).

G'day fellow Nintendo people, newcomer to Famiboards checking in, though longtime lurker on Resetera and resident of VGChartz/IGN/Install Base.

Looking forward to getting to know you fine folks.

The most polished half-finished game in my opinion is literally Xenogears. 😅

Not unfinished but def rushed at least for wind waker.
Wasn't it also Aonuma's first full Zelda game as the director? Might be a bit of that, as well.

Don't worry, every single one of those actors will now go on Fallon and insist it was a photoshop. 😂

Re: BDSP
Bear with me here, but what if the game ships as the "barebones" version and all the extra stuff people are saying they hoped for is actually locked behind a series of amiibo?

I believe (don't have sources primed and ready, but I know I've heard before!) that both Wind Waker and Sunshine were pretty famously rushed out the door due to poor gamecube sales. Nintendo needed game releases for their biggest franchises, so they made due with what they had

We’ll reminisce about the gold old days after Pokemon NFT integration becomes a thing.

I saw a ton more roadkill than usual yesterday while driving, I have a theory that daylight savings time ending and changing the flow/pattern of traffic by one hour overnight caused this increase. Animals go about their normal routine based on the time of day/position of the sun/moon but humans completely change their routine because of stupid Benjamin Franklin and unbeknownst to all of these animals traffic patterns are completely different.

Does this theory make sense?
Birds are known to base their swooping down over roads calculations on typical traffic speeds, if that works as evidence. A similar sort of phenomenon.

And that's Bravely Default 2 done in time for SMT V's release!

Hell of a game, kinda mad at myself for putting it off so long

BDSP was dumped and now I'm in a server with people playing it.....

If the sizes I'm seeing are correct, the day one patch will be, at minimum, almost as big as the data in the cartridge, so no one really knows what state the game will be in after that.

It is pretty well documented that Sunshine and Windwaker had rushed development cycles, and both contain pretty obvious instances of content that was cut out to meet deadlines.

How'd you like it? I picked it up on sale for $30 a while back but haven't gotten around to starting it yet.

EDIT: I somehow missed the second sentence lol. Glad you enjoyed it!

Yeah it's really good. Story's so-so but the characters are fun. The artstyle grew on me a lot, the music is just utterly spectacular, and it might just have my favorite turn based non-tactical combat system. I played it on Hard to which really pushed me to utilize it well (and also exploit broken Job combos when necessary)

So the current internet drama with Pokémon remakes is...

Nintendo doing what it has consistently and throughout the development said it will do.

The humanity. The audacity. HOW DARE THEY!
something something keep getting away with this

The technical issues are regrettable so I hope they will be either fixed with the day 1 patch or that they are caused by emulation. But frankly, I've seen nothing of BDSP so far that would make me play them over Platinum anyway. At least I got Legends Arceus coming in January knocks on wood
