But the user is talking about the physical version being available on the 10th. The game would have to be announced like last week for that to be viable.

The earliest we will have a Direct is the 7th, so I think this is just bs.
They said that they werent sure about physical, as they hadn't gotten anything in to their knowledge.

why would it say available now at the store...
Digital. Walmart sells digital cards at their stores. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe DLC got a small cardboard display last year.

Sounds bs, I doubt Nintendo can shadow drop a physical game like that. I think they will need two or three weeks between announcement and release to distribute the game without it leaking.
It’s been announced so it’s slightly different. Also 2 weeks for sm3das yeah
I still have my Target pre-order intact!
Same
I’m slightly sceptical that, of three game cardboard displays being sent from head office to a large supermarket, they would be Minecraft, Zelda and Advance Wars. One of those is not like the others. Just seems a bit odd when two are massive IP and one is beyond niche.

Still, fingers crossed! My pre-order is still intact from this time last year.
It’s a first party IP. Wario ware got em, arms got em.

It's kind of in the realm of that Baten Kaitos story -- like if you're gonna make up a fake rumour just to get attention, why pick Advance Wars?
Baten Kaitos has been essentially dead for twenty years. Advance Wars has a finished game that people have been wondering about the release of for the last year. Seems a much more straightforward pick if you want attention.

Y'all know people can just post lies on the internet, right.

Like, this makes no sense whatsoever no matter how you look at it. If it's a digital shadow drop, they wouldn't have in store advertising for it.

Y’all are assuming it would be a digital shadow drop next week at a direct. What if it’s a digital shadow drop like, tomorrow, and then physical in stores Feb 10? A man can dream…

By the way everyone on Famiboards better buy this fucking game.

And I mean everyone.
If it comes out so soon I might just give a Switch and Advance Wars to my cousin for a birthday slash completing his doctorate present. He really liked the GBA games :)

And of course I’ll buy a copy for myself. I’d love love love an “Advance Wars 3”

You know I'm buying physical and digital copies.

I just checked Finnish retail sites and this one says that it will be available 28th of february.

I know it's tuesday and the end of the month but maybe they just know it's in this month.

If it is shadowdropped, I hope a physical release isn't too far behind. I know they had printed out copies already, but I am in no way missing a physical copy of this baby, and if physical comes out a month or two after digital my resolve will be sorely tested

The new artstyle for the characters is honestly great, and I say that as someone who has always adored the original art. The animations are fluid and make the whole thing look premium. They also added some design elements to the characters that made them even better, like Max's suspensories, Sam's kneepads, Grit getting back his much cooler gunslinger hat from the japanese version, Sonja getting back her glasses, and Olaf looking much better and more menacing in general. Wayforward absolutely nailed the character design.

As for the in game graphics, I wasn't thrilled at first but the last trailer they dropped had huge improvements and honestly I'm happy with it. I still don't like how the blue moon infantry units look, but that's a nitpick and in general I think its looks good.

The originals will always be great looking sprite based games and as much as you try you can never replicate that charm with 3D models. It's just different styles and we have to accept one of them has been phased out and is now mostly an indie game thing. Every major franchise has transitioned to 3D models at this point and we can still enjoy those games and go back to the originals when you want that particular feel.

EDIT: Shit, watching this trailer again knowing the game is finally on the verge of coming out is giving me so many feels. Considering everything since Days of Ruin released, this has been an ordeal. I was so hyped for the return of AW that when I won the ERA E3 bingo back in 2021, I picked the AW logo to feature at the site when they gave me the choice, but since the game never released, that never happened (and probably won't, as the moderation would probably think it's tone deaf at this point). It's been such a long and winding road but we're finally almost there!

With regards to the graphics... I too was unsure at first but I think I motion they look good. And as great as the original pixel style is, would it look good blown up to the size of current displays?

It's one thing I disliked about Wargroove... The scaling was a bit off and so text was hard to read. I'm not saying it couldn't be done, but to my eyes some modern pixel heavy games can look beautiful but very very busy on screen (Panzer Paladin)...

For a game like Advance Wars where you'll spend lots of time staring at rather static scenes pondering your next few moves... Perhaps the 3D models were the compromise? The original source was very low res... As much as I find the original pixel art of Ace Attorney charming Capcom were right to re-do the artwork for bigger modern displays.

I just hope they've improved the transition times from the trailer as there was a noticeable delay entering into the battle screen in the Treehouse footage.

I'm so hyped for this. I've been itching to replay for so long but have been holding out for the reboot.

I think the new look is great. It maybe doesn’t have as much character as the original pixel art. But it’s nice and vibrant and everything is very crisp and “readable” at a glance, which counts for a lot in a game like this!

I hope this does come out soon. I’d sub something out of my 2023 schedule for this, no question

The hype has overtaken me I can't anymore

Give us a DS remake or a new game with Jake Nintendo, I need this song remastered.

I'm gonna say "They're shadowdropping a physical release" is by far one of the weirdest takes I've ever seen.

Not saying it's a technical impossibility, but retailers would absolutely get extra mad at Nintendo for pulling this off, and there's literally no reason they would do this. This is not SM3DAS, and I'm pretty sure retailers likely knew about that in advance.

Don't get me wrong I'd absolutely love to just have AW 1+2 out of nowhere next week, but man, I ain't seeing it.

Especially considering Kirby is already releasing this month. If their schedule is a little more light this year, it would make more sense to drop this in April or something.

Allow Days of Ruin to keep the hype flowing

Oh yeah, Days of Ruin's soundtrack was so ace and so criminally constrained by the DS sound chip.

Man, this franchise hits such high notes, it's a shame it's so niche.

I feel like if the retail “shadowdrop” happens, it’s basically getting announced today or tomorrow outside the Direct. They have to give people who preordered a heads up for picking it up or being ready to receive a package in the mail. I think we’ll get a week’s notice essentially.

We literally don't have an April release announced yet, IIRC. AW in April would be my first guess here.

At any retailer, how would they mail out copies without telling anyone? Like is each place supposed to have a special checkout procedure just for Advance Wars so it can magically show up at people’s houses next Friday? That I don’t buy at all.

Wasn’t the turnaround of 3D All Stars two weeks from announce to release? Seems like a reasonable timeframe if Nintendo is going for a low-key release given the war is still ongoing. I also could easily see a digital shadow drop during a direct with the physical announced for a few weeks later.

This isn’t Zelda or anything, not many people will see Advance Wars on their store shelves and impulse buy it. A split release is obviously a little clumsy but the people interested in the physical will still likely pick it up whenever it comes out.

Not to mention, retailers order copies from Nintendo that then sell. They don't like, get a random bucket of games, they get the copies they've asked for.

I do feel that releasing Advance Wars right now, barely giving retailers a chance to prepare, just a couple weeks before Kirby, two weeks after Fire Emblem, when there's a perfectly good gap in their release window in April they could fill it with, would be a bit odd. Unless Nintendo feel the best way for this game to generate hype is a 'hey it's playable now' moment. It often works for high profile Indie games.

A split digital/physical release would be odd, but they've hung onto the game for nearly a year so we are in weird territory with this one.

As for the 'light' release schedule, I wouldn't take it mean Nintendo are short of games; they might just have lower profile things like re-releases, spin-offs and budget titles coming rather than monthly new mainline titles like we had for most of 2022. It might also simply be that Nintendo are holding cards close to their chest, and aren't going to announce much for later in 2023 until later this year (absent from E3 might not preclude a summer presentation).

There's a lot of mixed signals floating around, anyway. Hopefully some of it is cleared up in the next week or two.

Xenoblade 2: Torna had a split physical / digital release. I believe the physical was released a week later.

Could just be that they had an arbitrary internal deadline like they would wait a full year from the point the Russia-Ukraine war started (Feb 2022) and then they would quietly just release it with no big marketing.

I think they want to get it out but with as little fanfare as possible. Drop it during a Direct when the whole internet is busy digesting the Direct is perfect.

How are we feeling, brave soldiers? I can see the light at the end of the tunnel, it's so close now.

the game is definitely going to be featured in the direct. the only question is the release date.

Do you think they'll address the delay Directly or just quickly run a basic trailer and announce the release date? It would be a good opportunity to show off the online features and any new modes added to the game.

I don't mind waiting a couple more months until release, I actually prefer it this way so that it can get a bit of a marketing campaign. I just hope there isn't more bad news related to any war anywhere, it's a bit scary with this franchise.

They'll do one of the 'Nintendo Switch Highlights' reels for it I feel, showing it off again with a new date confirmed. Maybe highlight a feature or two like how online play will work.

Of course, the dream is day 1 free DLC containing the campaign and content from Dual Strike. That'd be nice. Unlikely, but nice.

They're going to push past it as quickly and quietly as possible, they're definitely not going to address the delay, how could they, when the war that caused it in the first place still rages on?

Maybe I'm looking too deep into it but they seem to have made sure to not show off any gameplay. Hopefully the release date sticks even after the upcoming renewed invasion.
