Legend of the Seven Stars 2D HD would be beautiful. Even if it sounds like a clash of style, it would be so funny and charming if they were able to upscale the prerendered sprites. I am definitely hoping that happens. Plus I would really like a return to that world and it’s characters. Just add a hard difficulty mode.

Speaking of which, why hasn’t it hit NSO yet?
Square did that game, so they would have to come to an agreement.
So far most of the NSO games have either been by Nintendo only or smaller third party games.

Square seems to like to release their games seperately on their own, looking at all the retro collections they are doing.

Important details to remember…

  1. In the Switch Era, general Nintendo Directs in February have ALWAYS been on Wednesdays
  2. When a direct is on one day for the US, it’s technically on the next day in Japan…
  3. General directs recently have happened at least in the first full week of a month, but as long as the direct airs on the same month everywhere, so as to not garner confusion, there should be no issues. There have been multiple general directs on day 1 of the month!
So, with this information we have the following possible (reasonable) dates for February:

2/1, 2/8, and 2/15

To me, any of these dates are likely. On the one hand, most previous Nintendo nine month briefings were earlier in feb or even late January, so why exactly is this year’s briefing on the 7th? Perhaps because a direct with hardware will come on the 1st or something.

But it could also totally be a direct after the briefing like it has been in the past

Or perhaps a bit of both? Hardware reveal, briefing and then games direct

We’ll see but I think Wednesdays are a lock, so you can sleep early on Mondays and Wednesdays as I wouldn’t expect Tuesday/Thursday directs

1. The day pattern does not work, yes it's true that February Direct have always been on Wednesdays since 2019 but that does not work for other months so I think people are attaching much more than it is.
2. Yes, that's true. But the last September Direct aired also in Japan on the same day. It was the first General Direct since the Wii U/3DS era that aired in the same day across US/JP/EU. Some might say that it was because they were cutting it close before TGS but maybe they changed their schedule and are not back with air date like on old days. Also, it was first ever Direct that aired only with 24 hours notice (previously it was 31/32 hours based on time change).

And as you said there have been plenty Directs after briefing. Nintendo does not care. Kirby releases on February 24th so I would crossed that week either.

If I learned anything since 2019 with the Direct Speculation it's that the only pattern that works is announcement is always at 23:00 JST.

The Prime Remaster/Remake leak is the most annoying rumor we've had in the Switch era. We all know that's true at this point (due to a multitude of sources: LinkedIn and insiders), the game has been finished since last summer, but for some reason we still have to wait forever to see a single frame of it.

We need something else to restart the hype machine now
Nah
Star Fox Grand Prix is better

Again, patterns themselves aren't the important thing - it's the logic underlying them you want to think about (i.e. September being used for a general Direct because TGS is in September).

February might appeal to Nintendo for any number of reasons - I'd guess it's left some leeway for staff at Nintendo and other relevant parties have returned to work in January and any last minute wrinkles can be ironed out; it's also ahead of the new fiscal year, when Nintendo's next set of software and hardware objectives will become the goal; it's early enough in the calendar year to generate marketing lead-in for titles launching in the spring and summer. This year, early to mid February also happens to fall during a 5 week gap between first-party releases, meaning Nintendo are free of preview/review PR for some of that period, and it'll also come just ahead of the new season for Splatoon 3, which might feature in a Direct.

This week is FE review and launch week, so I wouldn't expect a presentation.

Kinda feel like Super Mario RPG remake is a thing that could happen between the game's absence from NSO, Nintendo's love of Old Stuff, the presumed presence of 2 to 3 Mario titles this year as in every year, and Square Enix's generally high level of support for Switch including lots of timed exclusives.

are you ok?
Yes.
are you sick?
No.
please tell us more!

Can it be next week a Pokémon Presents?
And 2 weeks later, Nintendo Direct.

I would also say a new hardware announcement in the middle but we would have already heard some whispers from insiders/journalists.

There’s always going to be presentations of some sort (Directs, Minis, Partners, Indie Worlds) at various points in the year mainly because Nintendo doesn’t just market their own games with them. Not having a presentation by March/April means the games in April, May, June, and July don’t get the spotlight they sign up and pay for.
Agreed! That's why I specified "major direct" in my comment. Indie worlds and partner showcases have been fairly consistent the last few years, even when the general showcases disappear for a while.

Why would they announce anything this week? Especially today, when the Fire Emblem reviews are dropping?
I don’t think they will announce anything this week, but always easy to spend a few minutes reminding people the game and expansion pass release soon.

Hm. Do they usually tweet/announce/say anything about reviews? Iirc there has been similar situations in the past where they've skipped saying "reviews are out" for big games.

To all members of Team January. It was fun, like every year. See you next year. For another fight between us. But this year, we are once again taking the victory.

team january vs team february is so dead

I was considering not even acknowledging timing when I was working on this thread because it's become so dull

I'd much rather see arguments about what we'll see in which shows rather than pretending directs are anything other than a periodic marketing show

we don't guess when E3 will be and if this year really is feb 8/9 we shouldn't guess when directs will be

I was team January the year of Chibi and ever since I have never believed in Jan again I'm surprised it's still that close of a split

It's not about logic ot mere tribalism, parroting for January is embracing cringe, to realize and accept your weakness, to trive in child-like silliness.

I was born stupid. However, I will not die hungry. Video games forever

Hm, Baten Kaitos, eh ?

Lovely graphics and soundtrack (Motoi Sakuraba at his best) but man the gameplay became so boring mid-game and such a slog at the end...
If it's true, I hope they kept the improvement from the prequel.

You lose nothing by being Team January. At best you get something a whole month before anyone expected.

At worst you get nothing which is what everyone expected anyway! It’s not like Team January has any more respect to lose.

Why not choose hope?
