Being honest and realistic, I would predict that if ever Nintendo wants to revive Mother series, they would start with a Mother 3 remake fixing all localization issues.

I wonder what kind of game is Jet Dragon. Sounds like a racing game from the name of it, but that would be weird coming from Grezzo.

Yea give them the keys to a new original top down Zelda.

It feels major missed opportunity, not to mention inefficient, to have nailed an aesthetic as hard as they did for Link’s Awakening and not take it a step further with a new game.

Fingers crossed.

Edit:
Aonuma's reasoning for the tilt-shift specifically mention's Links Awakening's roots as a GameBoy title, but I personally see it being easily applied to the 2D franchise as a whole.
“The original version of Link’s Awakening for Game Boy is a memorable title for me, which got me interested in The Legend of Zelda series. I wanted to cherish the feeling of exploring this small but deep, immersive world filled with comical characters that I experienced when playing on the small Game Boy screen, so the development team applied a “tilt-shift“ perspective, which really makes you feel like you’re looking into a miniature diorama.

We even incorporated these diorama-like designs into our E3 booth so that those who visited could feel like they were peeking into this miniature world.”

That's good to hear! I'm a bit afraid of any dev that's not retro fucking it up after Tropical Freeze was just kinda the best platformer for some reason, but it's better to try than to just give up
That was probably the DK game that was being made outside of Nintendo. Then Nintendo canned it and starting developing a new DK game at EPD.

Yeah, I’m not sure what to think of Jet Dragon lol. A racing game or something. A fast platformer?
An Ever Oasis sequel with rideable dragons.... that can go really fast. I don't know, Koichi Ishii is a guy who knows how to do melee combat, whatever he's doing, there sure to be swords and stuff.

They did pitch an Earthbound remake to Itoi for the GameCube back in the day, when they were still with Bamco.

Even better, a sequel, with the proposal meeting set up by Iwata himself.

There's the question of whether certain elements, tone and themes and such, overall feel, would be captured, but Honne seemed to think it could be done, and I don't see why it necessarily couldn't. Of course, the element remains that Itoi considers the series done, and I wouldn't necessarily expect it to continue directly unless that changes.

The way I could see something like this working now is if MonolithSoft were to put together a Mother trilogy remake* to have the series released now. Yasuyuki Honne would actually do really well with translating this into the clay style used in the advertising and manual, as evidenced by Sedna in Baten Kaitos: Origins

Through this, experience would be gained to help with the overall feel of a new game, and that sequel could be developed, the serial numbers filed off and the project become a spiritual successor. The proposed project could be realized, but as its own thing.

With this following the proposed felt construction, the trilogy remake and the successor could be be brilliant entries into Nintendo's Crafted Worlds.

*I would, of course, prefer the originals be included, and don't even necessarily require the remakes so long as the trilogy is released.

I finally figured it out.

Nintendo found out that Jet Dragon takes place in the sky and didn't want it upstaging Zelda. That's why they won't be publishing it.

Dunno if I drew the same conclusion as LinkedIn Legend here but it does sound like a new game maybe in development at Retro

Thread got a little slower

Let's feed those members:

February is going to be COOKING. Please, dear god, just schedule the Direct between my exams, I really do not want to write my Genetics exam right when the Direct is gonna be airing, or else I won't be able to focus lol.

Umm how does this guy draw a conclusion that it’s not a new IP because of that. Lol that doesn’t mean they’re not working on a new IP

A new IP from Grezzo, possibly a racing game? That’s awesome! Forgive my asking, but I haven’t followed this thread very much. Where did this rumor come from?

I don't think that's a reasonable conclusion for him to draw. The bullet not mentioning any Nintendo IP (or even the word Nintendo) is far too open ended to be meaningful to the applicant. I would take it to just mean that the applicant should be familiar working within the boundaries and expectations of something that already exists, as opposed to something they're creating themselves. This 'existing IP' could be new in the sense that it's not had a released title, but already somewhat established by the studio over prior years of development and prototyping.

This is Nintendo though, and it's most likely an existing IP - there's plenty of untapped stuff in the archives. The point I'm making is familiarity with some unlisted Nintendo IP probably not what the JD is asking for.

Not a rumor, people are just speculating. Grezzo trademarked "Jet Dragon" some months ago, could be their next game. Since Ishii and his team are excelled in action/adventure and RPG's, one would assume "Jet Dragon" could be within the genre.

My guess is this is a followup to Ever Oasis.

Grezzo is a two game team, right? So presumably they're working on Jet Dragon and a new Nintendo remake/remaster.

Grezzo have been hiring for a new game since Early 2021 and staff missing on the Miitopia port possibly indicates that it's been in the works since Link's Awakening was finished in 2019.

Hiring posts have described it as an action game with a "medieval and stylish" aesthetic. Grezzo also filed for the trademark themselves instead of Nintendo, meaning that it may be not be a first party release.

That was sort of true back in the 3DS days, but it's less clear now. We'll have to wait and compare the credits with the Miitopia staff whenever it comes out.

  • New 2D Mario (personally predicting this to be the opener)
  • Good-Feel title (I know it’s due at this point, but I could see a bit of a longer wait, especially if it turns out to be a platformer and 2D Mario also happens)
Pure speculation: what if the New 2D Mario and Good-Feel's games are the same, with Good-Feel acting as EPD10's support studios? They already worked together for Yoshi's games (in fact, they were pictured in the job recruitment), EPD10 is the only internal EPD group without an external partner, and GF could help them moving away from the tired NSMB aesthetic.

Atm I wouldn't bet on it, but I think it's a possibility.

Follow up from this summer--

Regarding the 'they wouldnt put together a whole Treehouse set for just Live-A-Live, a a third party game, so more treehouse stuff is coming' thing

Was there every any other presentation? I just remember a lot of trailer drops that summer.

The whispers at the time were that the Treehouse thing was supposed to be part of a bigger showcase around E3, but then Nintendo decided to just do weekly Twitter news drops instead throughout the Summer. So, they just released the Treehouse event as a standalone thing.

I'm just gonna say it. Eternal Darkness was insanely overrated. It gets a lot of fondness towards it because of what it was on the Gamecube, but in reality the entire game is a gimmick that feels unfun to play. A remaster of the game is not needed and a sequel would be far more welcome IMO.

I really figure a remaster/remake as well as a sequel. Keep the camera setup, as opposed to how some of these remakes go. It should help hold back some costs, and there's no need to go too crazy.

Definitely a sequel, though. Also, Alexandra now has a rad outfit to sport for Smash.

I told yall 👇
The next Mario Kart trailer should show footage from 8, get the viewer thinking oh yeah its just more DLC or whatever, then at the end it shows Mario Kart 8 and then fucken Star Fox pops up and shoots the 8 flipping it to an infinity symbol. Then we get the real trailer which is for Mario Kart Infinity, a GaaS Mario Kart with characters and tracks from a whole bunch of Nintendo properties.

Are we thinking of news this week or next? I dont really expect much besides FE Engage of course(may try it out as my first FE game) but they could always announce something the week after.
This week no. Next week is definitely possible, but I think the following few weeks are really where things are most likely to happen.

I'm guessing the second week of February for any major Nintendo events.

Echoing what others said. Nothing from Nintendo this week, but the weeks afterwards are all on the table.

The Harvestella and Splatoon show used the same studio.

Given that's its been a slow news cycle (and FE launches this week, so no news prob), I wonder if people will make assumptions of Doug visit when in the end its probably his early year planning meeting lol.
