I started a new file for Breath of the Wild last night. I haven’t played through it in almost 6 years.

Just got off the plateau and am quickly being reminded why this frame is so special.
I haven’t played it since the dlc at the end of 2017. At this point I don’t want to play it since the world is being reused in TOTK. I want to forget as much as I can.

2023 has potential to be the greatest year of Nintendo Switch for me, and I'm very excited to see if it lives up.

Due to its success on 3DS, I believe that a new Tomodachi game has been in development for a while and should be ready very soon. It could very well make the February Direct for me.

For some reason I just can't shake the feeling that indieszero has been co-developing a new Rhythm Heaven since around the time Big Brain Academy wrapped. Maybe it's overly optimistic, but it seems like multiple people at Nintendo, as well as Tsunko, have an interest in the series.

Similarly, due to Takahashi's comment in 2018 I believe that Wave Race will return. Wave Race 64 was a significant moment for so many who are now very important at Nintendo: Eguchi and Takahashi directed, Totaka composed its music, and Miyamoto was, of course, producer. Unfortunately, I suspect that the most natural form for a new game to take is a launch title for new hardware to show off its graphic processing power, so I'm not sure that it will arrive any time soon.

Finally, if Pikmin 4 actually makes it out this year it will be very exciting for me.

How many pages will this thread get when Direct is finally announced? $5 US eShop giftcard giveaway.

Let's have a little fun. Let's try to guess how many pages will this thread get when Nintendo Direct is finally announced (the moment the thread will close to be precise, so no new posts will be there).

This is something that every one of us can effect and it's not as boring as "Team January/Feb."

What are the rules?

You have to quote this post (so I can find you guess easily) and type the exact number you think the final thread page count will be.
You can send your guess until Monday, January 16th 3pm UTC. So that the final number cannot be guessed so easily (if we will get the last week January Direct).

The person who will quess the exact number or the nearest one will get the giftcard. If more people guess the exact number (it could happen lol) than one of these will be selected by random selection.

And you can edit your number until the end date. - January 16th 3pm UTC.

I’m starting to think capcom will have something mega man related. Possibly a new game.
Probably too early with the BN Legacy Collection still not out. If we're going to get something from Capcom I think it would be something Ace Attorney.

Ace Attorney 7
Great Ace Attorney 3
Ace Attorney Trilogy 2
Ace Attorney Investigations Chronicles

Great Ace Attorney Chronicles came out in summer 2021 and by all accounts seemed to do well for Capcom. I think any of the four above is extremely likely. Ideally all 4 will happen over the next decade.

Speaking of Metroid Prime 5, there were waaaaaay to many youtube reactors that said during the announcement of Metroid Dread when it called it Metroid 5 they wanted to know why they were announcing Prime 5 when we haven't even seen Prime 4 yet and were serious.

Can't wait for this in 2025 when Nintendo announce Metroid 6 and people wonder why they're skipping Metroid Prime 5.

It's kind of weird to think of Ace Attorney as a series with an at least semi-annual release schedule, but considering the JP-only releases and the various ports it definitely is one

GAAC was 2021 and last year was barely a release (Trilogy HD replacing old trilogy release on mobile), it feels like we're due something this year, though my gut says it'll be a compilation of 4-6
Ghost Trick was recently rated for PC in Korea, an indication that it could be next in line. I totally expect a remastered version of GT shadowdrop on the next Direct along with a debut trailer of the higher budget sequel. Ghost Trick was Shu Takumi's dream project, it's gonna be awesome to see that it's still alive.

I think this year is still kinda difficult to figure out until we really know the timing for new hardware. If new hardware makes late 2023, then I could see 3D Mario making this year as the major launch title with some cross-gen software also making it out on Switch One (Metroid Prime in some capacity? Something family and multiplayer orientated from NdCube?).

I don't see EPD having more than one or two other major games out this year, so I think we're in a scenario were it is Zelda, Pikmin 4, and probably one out of 3D Mario, 2D Mario, or DK, plus a possible wildcard game. With Switch declining and new hardware to be launched, I think we'll continue to see EPD's titles deliberately paced out. I do think Tomodachi is happening at some point, and it'd certainly make for a wildcard, mass-market title for this year in the absence of other major holiday candidates. The other EPD wildcard is the 1-2 Switch sequel, which may yet see the light of day.

I still feel we are going to see several remasters (Kirby, Advance Wars, Metroid, F Zero, something else?); that Mario will definitely have a presence of some sort (2D? 3D? Sports? RPG?); Detective Pikachu joins expansions as the major Pokemon stuff for the year; and I'd also guess at NdCube, Grezzo and Good-Feel rounding things out. That'd be a full year, all told.

For all my musings, I think 2023 is actually kinda hard to call, between the unknowns about the hardware timelines and the number of options Nintendo actually still have for this transitional period (not to mention the things we can't predict, like Bayonetta Origins).

So, we expecting a Mario Movie segment in the next direct or a separate one? I think we're sure to get one more at least. They've currently had segments with 4 of the 6 starring actors. I think they'll give Charlie Day and Keegan Michael Key segments in the last trailer

If there is a DK game released this year, and a 2D Mario that feels really new/different, plus TotK, this could be the best Switch year for me.

Ace Attorney Investigations Chronicles
I feel like Trilogy 2 this year into AA7 next year makes sense on the grounds that they'd want AAs 1-6 on modern platforms before going into AA7, though it'd mean the series would go six years in a row without an actual new release. Investigations duology is possible, those games are on mobile, but they're not super popular and most English speakers who'd care have played 2's translation patch.

The main question is who'd actually do a new game. Takeshi Yamazaki directed 4-6 and the Investigations games, but he's not at Capcom any more. Shu Takumi hasn't done anything we know of recently, but I don't know if he actually wants to continue with either AA or GAA. If I had to guess the director for AA7 I'd say either Yasuhiro Seto or Masakazu Eguchi

As I said in a post above, their next game seems to be Ghost Trick remaster. Might point to Shu's next project being a sequel.

everybody expecting Metroid Prime but they announce Metroid 6 (2d side scroller instead).

That will be separate. The next (and last) Mario movie Direct in late February/early March.

I am sorry to all of the DK fans but we will likely not see two 2D platformers released in the same year by Nintendo. And it's also worth noting that hirings for DK went up in 2020 which could mean it would fit within 2024 release but I know that the hiring does not mean that development started at that time.

TOSE should try to port Scarlet Nexus to Switch. It's not that demanding game, surely not more than Alicization Lycoris. I'm trying to play it on Steam Deck and it's reaaally uncomfortable.
Yeah but that port depends of Bandai Namco, and they choose a random port schelude for a unknown reason.

God, if we actually get a new 2d Mario this year, and it's like, new new, i.e. brand-new artstyle, gameplay, physics, music style, etc. and not just another NSMB game, that would honestly be really hype lol. I'm sure it would be a massive seller too.

How much do you guys think a new 2d Mario would sell btw? 20m+? 30m+? Even higher?

Yoshi’s New Island and Kirby Triple Deluxe on 3DS released the same year, just two months apart in fact.

Also……NSMB2 and NSMBU. Lol.

Ghost Trick rating is probably a port based on the iOS version, but the port doesn't necessarily indicate a sequel, nor would it have to conflict with any plans for Ace Attorney
Yeah it doesn't interfere with Capcom release schedule but the remaster could be next in line. And I hope it's not a cheap iOS port, Capcom does not cheap out on ports.

Shu hasn't done anything in 5 years except making a contribution to that MH mobile game, I hope his next game is a big one, GT or not.

Also worth to note, a 2D DK game might be in development for a longer/short period of time than a 2D Mario game, and vice versa of course. At least, I think you mean a 2D DK and 2D Mario when you talk of two 2D platformers.
I do however believe Mario will be first, there's too much big Mario things happening this year with the movie and Super Nintendo World opening in Hollywood, which if given the choice I too would choose 2D Mario platformer over DK, for this year at least.

2D Mario will be Nintendo's big Holiday game I think, it's the perfect game for this period of the year.
Zelda in may, Pikmin 4 in September, 2D Mario in November. Some DLCs and remasters/remakes, smaller games like Style Savvy, Jet Dragon, Advance Wars and 1 surprise announcement that no one could have predicted.
They will show Arms 2/Donkey Kong and Metroid Prime 4 at E3 2023 with a 2024 release date.
Enjoy.

Kirby Star Allies was released in March 2018

2 months later they dropped DK Tropical Freeze WiiU port…

NSMBU Deluxe, Yoshi's Crafted World, and Super Mario Maker 2 all released in the first half of 2019.

Remember the rumours of GamePass coming to Switch along with a few native Microsoft games after the Ori games? Rare Replay would have been so cool to have on Switch

I wonder if maybe anything Tomodachi Life related will instead be a “spiritual successor”

personally, I actually loved how weird Miitomo was and was sad when they dropped the app — but I wonder how much that “toe in the water” halted or delayed any plans to take the next step there

not to manifest your absolute worst fears, but…

We all know EPD 8 and EPD 10 are working on 2D games but Good-Feel could also be working on a 2D game. Come on, new Wario Land.

I feel like if that's the case, then it's more likely to see DK than Mario this year imo. Assuming the DK is 2D, it could also be 3D. But even if I'm wrong, I'm ok with waiting until 2024 also. It's already been 9 years since TF, I'm kind of used to the wait by now lol

Forgot to mention will we see some games released from Microsoft studios?
Not exactly published by Microsoft but I think we might see Thunderful's The Gunk. Apparently it was a similar deal to Cuphead, funded by Microsoft but eventually appeared elsewhere.

This is brought up pretty often but do we want another Wairo from GoodFeel? Shake It looked cool but it didn't have series trademark difficulty. Fair and enjoyable high difficulty. I still boot up WL4 from time to time, get stuck in just the first world (the one with asshole ghost in it) and I totally love it.

GoodFeel should continue working on that Goemon spiritual successor. Looks like it's gonna be a critically acclaimed new IP. Wario needs to get his back to 3D. This time better than ever.

Good-Feel's self-published game is separate to their contracted work, so a Nintendo game from them would be in addition to that comedy-adventure game.

Thinking about it more, there's a good case for Shinsuke Kodama. Writing, design, and management work on Takumi's games is a solid resume (same role in both GAA games, GAA2 isn't on MobyGames), and his wrapping up the Trilogy port would line up well with the leaked roadmap putting AA7's pre-production in 2019, even if said roadmap is outdated at this point. To be clear, idk how complete MobyGames is for the rest of Capcom's lineup, so it's possible these guys have all done something else since then

Just give me that kid Icarus remaster (never played the 3ds one) or a new game in the series . I think the series has potential on switch and should become an annual franchise. Ubisofts fenyx rising was cool and kind of scratched the itch, but I think Nintendo could do something special with the ip mythology.
