No they really weren’t. That game was hella mid lol
Agree to disagree.

I'm a sucker for multiple layered 2D platformers and Crafted World had one of the best uses for multiple layers. Reverse gameplay was a cherry on top. Personally it was the best Nintendo 2D platformer I've played in a decade. 3DS Kirby's were good but too many recycled ideas.

What ever happened to that [timed] exclusive resident evil rumoured for Switch? I believe it was suppose to be revelations 3…
In the pre-covid leak there was a game called RE Apocalypse scheduled for late this year but IDK if that was it or some other thing.
Some games have obviously slipped or maybe cancelled but RE4 Remake is still launching the same time it was scheduled back then, alongside 'MH NS G' which I assume was code for the multi plat port of Rise/Sunbreak.

I will always believe that a Resident Evil Revelations 3 for Switch was at the very least planned at some point, because of all the RE games, they started with Revelations 1 and 2 when they began porting them to Switch. If it wasn't because they had something planned for the future regarding that sub-series, then that was the most random thing ever.

As a relaxing slow paced co-op title it definitely wasn’t mid. There aren’t that many games in the space. Luigi’s Mansion 3 is another great one, and admittedly a big step above it, but my wife and I would still gladly buy a new entry, or a port of Wooly World.

Woolly World is 100% in Nintendo's "Pre-Retirement Supply Cupboard" for Switch, along with Wind Waker HD, Twilight Princess HD, and NES Remix Ultimate.

RE Apocalypse is RE9, which of course will happen, likely early 2025 as both VII ane Village got a 4 year development cycle. Capcom wants RE to be an with annual entries per FY.

So if RE title FY2024/25 is Apocalypse, what can be next FY title? Can it be the long rumoured time exclusive Switch bound RE game ? Now with an upgraded Switch 2 version.

An to add speculation, I can see Capcom remaking RE1 Remake and 0 for early 2026 (30th anniversary) and 2027. 2028 and afterwards is very uncertain honestly.

Ugh, I hate how it's so difficult to guess which games will actually make it onto the Switch now. Every game has an argument for being saved for the next system. It makes speculation kinda frustrating.

I think a lot of games are going to hit both for a year or two which keeps nearly everything on the table.

Thinking about it more, there's a good case for Shinsuke Kodama. Writing, design, and management work on Takumi's games is a solid resume (same role in both GAA games, GAA2 isn't on MobyGames), and his wrapping up the Trilogy port would line up well with the leaked roadmap putting AA7's pre-production in 2019, even if said roadmap is outdated at this point. To be clear, idk how complete MobyGames is for the rest of Capcom's lineup, so it's possible these guys have all done something else since then
Kodama left Capcom a while ago. I always thought Takuro Fuse would be the director after Yamazaki's departure. He isn't directly involved with the writing, but the same could be said for Mitsuru Endo.

Always bet on side studios. Intelligent Systems, GoodFeel, Vanpool, Grezzo... None of these have any reasons to save their games to the next system.

I'm predicting a game reveal from one of those will be at the direct.

I’m starting to think capcom will have something mega man related. Possibly a new game.

Probably too early with the BN Legacy Collection still not out.
Granted, we won't be hearing anything else until the Collection is out. But Taisen being one of the remaining things from the leaks that has yet to be revealed, I don't think it'll be too much longer before we finally see it. Capcom is just stuck playing catchup because there's anniversary stuff they wanted to do for EXE's 20th, as well as acknowledging the entire brand's 35th, with both being delayed because of the pandemic.

I just really want to see what Taisen is. Since some of those people behind 11 also worked on MH Rise, I can't help but wonder if that helped give them experience for a MP co-op game...

But if the Switch 2 doesn't release until next year or after that, it delays every game back that's cross gen. That's the bad thing.
That might happen to an extent for the absolute biggest games, but I think for 90% of Nintendo’s games they won’t necessarily have a cross gen version in that case if the game is ready to go.

Like say a new Yoshi game is gearing up for this holiday and behind the scenes at this exact moment hardware gets delayed from holiday 2023 to holiday 2024. I think that Yoshi game just comes out on base Switch. Maybe in this kind of case they put out an update patch when Switch 2 launches.

I really think the only games to worry about being held back are stuff like 3D Zelda, Xenoblade, Metroid Prime 4, and maybe 3D Mario depending on what it is. Xenoblade and soon Zelda will be out long before new hardware, Metroid Prime 4 I could see being saved as a launch title as it’ll play super well with launch adopters, and I’m pretty 50/50 on Mario. I’m just not sure they are making a 3D Mario that couldn’t run on Switch unless it is a full, dynamic, open world which is certainly possible given Bowser’s Fury. If it resembles Odyssey, Galaxy, or 3D World, probably not.

Vanpool might be the one developing Kirby's return to Dreamland so yeah, those studios won't be waiting for the Succ to release.

so the story for suicide squad kills the justice league might have leaked and I desperately hope there true because the shitstorm it would bring would be amazing

Honestly I feel like the announcement possibilities are limitless at this point for switch. They could really port anything (to a certain degree) wether that be third party, remasters, remakes etc. Mix that with some new first/ second party releases, games already announced and you got an exciting year ahead for the switch.

I wonder if maybe anything Tomodachi Life related will instead be a “spiritual successor”

personally, I actually loved how weird Miitomo was and was sad when they dropped the app — but I wonder how much that “toe in the water” halted or delayed any plans to take the next step there

not to manifest your absolute worst fears, but…

I'm not especially worried

I just want a real Mario RPG with more creative freedom. M&L, SMRPG HD, SMRPG 2, a new series, something. I don’t care. PM is unlikely to go back to its roots as long as Tanabe is around. So hey, maybe a PMTTYD HD port? I’d take that.

Or maybe we just get SMRPG on NSO (hah) or more likely, M&L SS on GBA NSO+.

Wait what in the story would cause a shit storm?

does the Suicide Squad kill the Justice League..?

Well so much for that.

For Apollo Justice they had Shu Takumi doing the writing, without him I would guess they'd want another writer-director, just based on the nature of the game. But I'm mostly just spitballin here

So, to sum up what the leaker says...a lot of the story has the JL die. A lot at the hands of the Squad.

But the biggest thing is that the Earth is basically doomed due to damage caused by Braniac's machinations. So the crux of the plot involves Barry/Flash being a walking macguffin because using Flash to cause a Flashpoint paradox is the only hope left. Lot of people still die, the Squad dies after one last stand against Braniac (with an apparent bonus if your char(s) can last 5 minutes or more.

Flashpoint happens, and basically rolls things back to pre-Arkham Asylum, so Bruce's ID is safe, he learns Damian is thing, Lex Luthor is president, and yadda yadda yadda.

It's wild, if true. It just comes off as a bit sad cuz well, Conroy's gone regardless.

I started a new file for Breath of the Wild last night. I haven’t played through it in almost 6 years.

Just got off the plateau and am quickly being reminded why this frame is so special.

Same. Except I play it like once a year. I started yesterday and today I got off the plateau. I do think it’s paced very well and and does a good job at being the tutorial without feeling like training wheels

I saw a star fragment land as soon as I got the paraglider and was immediately drawn back into the allure. Pretty sure I found some koroks on the plateau I never saw in my first 500 hours. Still inviting and surprising.

And then it hit me that there’s a chance TotK will surpass this game and I’ll be playing that in 4 months 😮

The only one on that list of developers is Intelligent Systems with the rumored FE4 remake. Everything else is going to be saved for the next system's first year and a little bit into the second year.

LinkedIn Legend strikes again. Heck he'd probably know if I changed jobs too!

Omg
Makes sense seeing that Primer Remake wrapped up by September 2021. Part of the team probably is tasked to start development of the next game after Prime 4 instead of moving everyone to MP4.
Is the unannounced Retro project Metroid Prime Remake, or is it an unknown third game?
For the first time since awhile it's actually the best possibility and it's an unknown third game. Can't even think of what it would be but I think it's Prime 5 pre-production.

Would be crazy to get annual retro studio releases again!
Imagine them going from releasing nothing in 9.5 years to releasing Metroid Prime Remake in 2023, Prime 4 in 2024 and some totally unexpected thing in 2025 lol.
Is it a safe bet to expect Astral Chain 2 to come out in 2023 let alone actual be in development? Just another game to throw in the pile of expected 2023 releases.

I own it, just find it hard/have a desire to continue playing it. It’s just not for me I guess.
Don't think it's a safe bet to expect it in 2023. I think it's a safe bet that it was greenlit and I'm pretty sure it's in development since the original did REALLY well(1M in its first month, while Bayo 2 on Switch took awhile to get to 1M, definitely didn't on Wii U and 3 was made regardless so they were definitely happy with its sales) for a new IP that's also niche.
My guess is it's a 2024 game. Cross gen ofc.

What ever happened to that [timed] exclusive resident evil rumoured for Switch? I believe it was suppose to be revelations 3…
I don't know if it's still coming, but the rumor was by someone really reliable (leaked MH Rise, Resident Evil Village, RE4, etc).
I can see it taking as long as until late this year to finish development (Monster Hunter Rise did take awhile to come to Switch), and they can be not rushing or even sit on it due to this year being Resident Evil 4 time to shine.
God, if we actually get a new 2d Mario this year, and it's like, new new, i.e. brand-new artstyle, gameplay, physics, music style, etc. and not just another NSMB game, that would honestly be really hype lol. I'm sure it would be a massive seller too.

How much do you guys think a new 2d Mario would sell btw? 20m+? 30m+? Even higher?
I can't even guess these things on Switch era. I'm pretty sure it would get past 15M fastly. How much over that idk. 20M seems very plausible - guessing based of NSMBU DX selling more than 11M very fast.
2D Mario will be Nintendo's big Holiday game I think, it's the perfect game for this period of the year.
Zelda in may, Pikmin 4 in September, 2D Mario in November. Some DLCs and remasters/remakes, smaller games like Style Savvy, Jet Dragon, Advance Wars and 1 surprise announcement that no one could have predicted.
They will show Arms 2/Donkey Kong and Metroid Prime 4 at E3 2023 with a 2024 release date.
Enjoy.
Don't make me dream that hard please 🥺
I would love if we turned out to get a big new 2D Mario game. Donkey Kong in 2024 is very likely to me as it would be 4 years after the hiring call. ARMS 2 NEEDS to happen. Metroid Prime 4 in 2024 is a lock imo. For this holiday I think MP Remake in October right before 2D Mario in November.

Jesus the thing with Capcom is those schedules with stuff from 2025 leaking in 2020 lol.
Is there something about MH NS/Rise 2? Or just "World 2"?
Why all this talk about a new 2D Mario? Did I miss something?
Nothing. We're just guessing based of something we know is in development for awhile.

Definitely. All of the ports did really great, I'm pretty sure most of them got past 1M. Capcom did bring MH Rise after Generations Ultimate (was already developing it ofc).
These games are just taking forever to make, plus COVID messing the schedule, maybe they waiting for the successor, etc.
RE Apocalypse is RE9, which of course will happen, likely early 2025 as both VII ane Village got a 4 year development cycle. Capcom wants RE to be an with annual entries per FY.

I'm wondering how they'll put the 9 between Apocalypse. Apoca"I"psX? Apocalyp9e?

Dusk says the game(9) has been in development since way before Village was released and would be the Resident Evil game to take the longest to make.

If it comes in early 2025, here's hoping we get Resident Evil Switch by early 2024.

They should be given a chance with that Zelda game they pitched way back.
They probably were, it was an internal problem i imagine.

But id prefer if retro tried their new ip once again.

I dont think nintendo will approve prime 5 before prime 4 releases to complete success.

maybe Retro will bring their musical rpg back to life one day, but I'm pretty sure Nintendo will force them to work on an existing series for the moment, considering that they haven't released a game in ten years.
I would like to see Retro's take on Kid Icarus.

Honestly i will never ever believe this musical ip thing was real, or if it was it was some indie level ds game.

And nintendo is very liberal with retro, the studio has had more chances at new ips and deciding which series they would like to do than several if not all nintendo subsidiaries.

I dont doubt a successful mp4 is all nintendo is asking in exchange for another chance. I would like kid icarus doe

Or maybe we just get SMRPG on NSO (hah) or more likely, M&L SS on GBA NSO+.
I’d welcome a Mario RPG by any studio, but why can’t Nintendo go to see IS and tell them : “so these are the specifications for the next Paper Mario : don’t modify or create new Mario characters and, also, make it a goddam RPG” ? Of all Nintendo studios and partners, IS have the best writers, and they are the best fit to make a Mario RPG.

Nintendo gives Retro opportunities. I believe Metroid Prime Remaster is done and coming this year. They’re doing some other game now. I doubt it’s Metroid Prime 5. They probably want to wait for some kind of reception on Prime 4. Ultimately, I do believe Retro will do Metroid Prime 5. One team sticks with Metroid for some time and another team tackling other things.

Retro can have 2 choices for their next game, not be of course a new Metroid Prime title:

  • Be it a new IP, so well it can be at any genre
  • Use an already established IP from Nintendo to make a new game, there are various options…

1) Most people would think first of a new DK game but apparently there is already a game being developed internally by Nintendo. Maybe they can try something like a new Diddy Kong Racing but probably if better to integrate DKR elements into MK.
2) I would say Kid Icarus if it wasn’t for the rumours that Bandai-Namco is remastering/remaking Uprising for Switch…
3) Another one is Star Fox if another studio isn’t making a new one…
4) I know many people dream of a Startropics/Mach Rider revival by Retro, maybe they can tweak it a bit to be more like a cinematic action-adventure title?
5) why not give them Mother/Earthbound IP? Its a very western influence franchise, maybe Retro can put a new twist and include some sim elements like Persona. It can be something like Stranger Things but fighting aliens lol.
6) Any other suggestion ?

western-inspired game from japan is interesting, western-inspired game from america is fucking boring

I think mother may as well be the worst option possible.

- it would be disrespectful to itoi as he doesnt wants it to continue.

-id prefer if retro dealt with larger budget titles, which mother 4 wouldnt be.

- a genre that they never have done anything with.

-as for other options, id like a reboot of star fox without miyamoto's bizarre influences. Kid icarus really would be the best option by far

I don’t think there’s a lot of options from Nintendo’s catalogue. I don’t think they care to touch some obscure IP like Star Tropics. I think they’d probably prefer to revive a good old IP like they did with DKC or make a new IP (be it a spin-of from Zelda or outright brand new).

Any old IP they’d try to make a new game I could see would be

-Star Fox (not really old)
-Diddy Kong Racing
-Eternal Darkness

Next Level Games revived Punch Out and continued Luigi’s Mansion.

I don’t want Retro Studios to make Mother 4, but I wouldn’t see such project as disrespectful, though. Itoi stance about Mother 4 always have been that he doesn’t want to make it because he has no ideas, but that he’d be glad if someone else made it.

(so don’t give Mother to Retro Studios, but honestly, with the right team and a co-director dealing with the gameplay aspect, I’d love to see Swery’s take on Mother)
