Freshly Picked Tingle's Rosey Rupeeland 2: Diamond Dimensions of Hell, developed by Arzest, is Nintendo's Zelda title for 2025 btw
if we happen to get a switch 2 in, say, november 2024, I think we might get a "nintendo hire this man" style remake of oot at launch or the year after

Choose your fighter, Zelda 2024:

1) new 2D Zelda using Link's Awakening style visuals. Dungeons return but it's non-linear.
2) toon-shaded Minish Cap remake. Toon-shading more like the concept art for the game, so not necessarily Wind Waker esque, including black ink outlines on character models.
1, please.

It's been almost a decade since the last new Zelda game, and even that was a LTTP sequel!

What if every leak you see, is more than what you see? The leaker next to you is a Nintendo employee, and the space that appears empty in January is actually a door to another Direct?

And what if a leak appears that shouldn't? You either dismiss it or accept that there is more to January than you think. Perhaps it is really a Mini, and if you choose to go inside, you'll find many unexpected things.

My vote stay the same. TEAM JANUARY.

Been hanging onto my 2028, all bells and whistles visual overhaul remake for the 30th anniversary prediction since 2020, but Nintendo had to take until 2023 to release a new Zelda so who knows what'll happen. They've really got options: existing HD ports of 2 Zelda games that are now actually a full console cycle behind us; existing graphics and assets for GB/GBC Zelda which could be used for Oracle remakes; Hyrule Warriors 3 using TotK characters and maps if that makes sense to do so.

But I feel like a good Ocarina remaster is a solid bet at a 10 million selling Zelda title so maybe yeah. I really want something new from them in the 2D series, though.

Who are these people who voted team April?

New 2D Zelda, no question. I love Minish Cap but I think it's totally fine on its own and doesn't need a remake.

Show me the presentation from Sony or Microsoft (aside from hardware reveals or E3's) when the executives took their time from their busy schedules and showed on camera presenting you the new games. That's why no one will ever replace the Direct (even for the actual annnouncements, but that's different story). Some people will say it does not matter but I think the idea of "I will be your guide for today's Nintendo Direct" is also something that makes them so unique.

Nintendo slept through this week, but the stage is suspiciously empty for next week. Feeling good about a Direct / Direct Mini slipping in there and I’m leaning towards the latter. Get us through May by announcing another March game and announce the April game too. Then come back in March/April with a proper Direct covering most of the rest of the year.
I could definitely see this happening. I'm still a little surprised we didn't get a Fire Emblem Direct, and it's too late for that now I'd say. I guess it was mostly due to the timing and holidays.

I definitely think there'll be something next week, even if it's just an NSO update or something like that. Otherwise, we're looking at post-FE since I doubt they'll do anything the same week as that.

I think Microsoft does a good job too, the „aside from E3“ thing is tricky because they usually only have their June presentation.

I thought we were getting the Engage Overview today, since it dropped last night in Japan. Most likely, Monday or Tuesday now.

Yuji Naka is the programmer and the premise of the game is tingle insider trading when he gets tips about new businesses on windfall island.

with them having acknowledged Scarlet and Violet as technical disasters I could totally see them wanting to cover the games' future sooner than February 27
Alternatively - they don't have serious fixes ready yet and hang fire until they either are ready to go, or have a precise date to share.

what unannounced, new games are people expecting for 2023? there'll definitely be some- at this point in 2022 we hadn't heard about 6 of the year's retail releases, and at this point in 2021 we hadn't heard about 9. but I'm struggling to think of what could slide in, seems like we're due for new entries in a few big franchises like 3d mario but i feel like at this point they'll just hold that back for next gen next year

Definitely 1. I adored the art style of the Link’s Awakening remake (I assume that’s what you’re referring to), but the linearity of the game definitely worsened the overall experience for me, especially because I wasn’t actually moving in a straight line. Doing away with the restrictive map design and forced backtracking would make me a fan of 2D Zelda going forward.

I don't really think that would be necessary. It feels pretty early. They have Fire Emblem for January, Kirby at the end of February. March/April could easily be lighter months building up to Tears of the Kingdom. Something like Advance Wars could be slipped in there or honestly just about anything announced in a January/February Direct. They don't need months and months of promotion for most things anymore.

Not really expecting a April game but it's good to consider that something like Switch Sports was announced on February 9th and was released on April 29th, that's 79 days only. But with ToTK in May I don't see anything happening in April and there is also a Mario Movie coming that month.

Nintendo is very weird with these reveal to release cycles, Ring Fit was briefly teased on September 6th 2019, fully revealed a week later on 12th and went on sale on October 18th. Which is only 36 days, that's insane.

Definitely the first one. I don't want any 2D remakes. They hold up just fine.

MisterSpo made a fairly comprehensive post a couple of days ago, though most of this is probably 2024 or later
Just to give people an idea of potential Post-Zelda Nintendo projects:

  • Advance Wars 1&2 Reboot Camp (confirmed, TBC)
  • Pikmin 4 (confirmed, 2023)
  • Metroid Prime 4 (confirmed, TBC)
  • Detective Pikachu (confirmed, TBC)
  • EPD 8 3D action game (hiring call, October 2019)
  • EPD 10 2D action game (hiring call, October 2019)
  • EPD 8 2D action game (hiring call, August 2020)
  • Nintendo x Bandai-Namco 3D action game remaster (hiring calls in 2022/23)
  • SynSophia fashion game (hiring call, December 2020)
  • Grezzo medieval fantasy game (hiring call, 2021; trademark 'Jet Dragon' registered in 2022)
  • Finished but unannounced Retro Studios game (LinkedIn, September 2021; heavily rumoured to be Metroid Prime remastered)

Before we even get into the realm of speculation, rumours and guesswork, you can run up 11 titles all potentially heading to Switch and/or its successor. Throw on the recent F ZERO rumours or the older rumours of a Fire Emblem remake in the works to launch after the latest new titles, as well as some guesswork - that studios like NdCube are perhaps due to launch new software on Switch; that Good-Feel probably have Nintendo-contracted software as well as their own self-published game in the works for Switch; that perhaps Monolith Soft have been working on an action game after all; that NST now have an unusually high number of game designers and might be working on their own project; and so on.

Entirely possible some of these aren't for Switch, and very likely a number of these won't launch exclusively for Switch and are instead going to end up being cross-generation; but I don't really see the pace of releases on Switch slowing, even if we end up with more re-releases and spin-offs than 2022.

oh thats a great post, thanks for sharing it. now that i think about it, an ndcube game (probably mario party) seems like a lock for this year given their usual pace. also think the synsophia game (probably still style savvy) and grezzo game will likely hit this year, and a 2D DK from EPD 8 finally materializing would make for a good holiday title.

throw in the rumored metroid prime hd and f-zero gx hd along with all the dlc coming this year (xenoblade, splatoon, mario kart, almost definitely pokemon) and youve got a solid year

"Grezzo medieval fantasy game (hiring call, 2021; trademark 'Jet Dragon' registered in 2022)"

The Legend Of Zelda: Jet Dragon an original 2D installment of the series for 2024?

Is Doug gonna appear in the E3 Direct? First and only one was 2019, then the world ended, 2021 was weird and 2022 was also weird.

Development update on Tears of the Kingdom for Nintendo Switch

Shinya Takahash : “ development progress has not reached the standards we seek in a sequel to the Legend of Zelda : Breath of the wild

Therefore We have decided to reexamine the development structure itself and change it,

Specifically, we have decided to collaboration with Retro Studios in the United States and restart development from the beginning.

Please understand “

When Metroid Prime 4 drops in the upcoming direct, my heart might miss a beat! I remember that being one of the games announced during the switch reveal that had me pumped.

I'm thinking...
  • 2D Mario game at the end of the year. That's the perfect holiday game, every other system selling title will be saved for Switch 2
  • Super Mario Sluggers. We get a Mario spin-off every summer
  • Tomodachi Life. Grezzo has experience with 3DS Mii titles and they've been absent since Miitopia
  • Detective Pikachu 2. Yearly Pokemon game
  • Everybody's 1-2 Switch. It's alive. Sadly.
  • Kid Icarus Uprising HD. This is the Bandai Namco remake

That'd be a decent year, really depends on how good the 2D Mario/Sluggers/Tomodachi Life games would turn out

I'm also thinking Mario Sluggers makes sense in summer, but I hope it's a step up from the other Mario sports games on Switch. Strikers was by far Nintendo's most disappointing 2022 release for me.

I agree that the Bandai Namco remake is KI: Uprising HD but I feel like that's more likely for 2024, though I could see it as the December release. The rumor originates from job listings for vital roles from less than a year ago so I think it probably needs more time

First one can be a Link Between Worlds Sequel aka A Link to the Past 3.

I would be shocked if baseball was the game to break the "every switch mario sport is worse than the last" curse but it could happen

Good point about ndcube, I know the last two games came two years apart, is that pretty consistent historically? My wife and I play Superstars with friends and since DLC obviously isn't happening a new Mario Party game this year would be huge news for us

The Mario Sports game aren't getting worst. They were always bad (except for Mario Tennis on N64 and Gameboy). They've maintained the same level of badness for 20+ years.

And don't get me started on Mario Party, Nintenerds!

last two games (clubhouse games and mario party superstars) were actually only one year apart. In fact, NDcube has put out a game on Nintendo consoles every year since 2010 aside from 2019 and 2022, so 2 years is the longest they've gone in quite a while. Since 2022 was one of those gap years I'm sure something's coming this year- no guarantee it's mario party but i imagine/hope they want to build on superstars and either do similarly styled new content or more remade content
