The Pocket Card Jockey debacle yesterday was an ill omen that has shaken my faith in this week, but even so my faith endures for a big announcement to kick off the year. (At least for the next 3-4 hours when the Tweeting Hour occurs lol)

The apple arcade games, usually comes to other platforms when the time of exclusivity expires.

But the ports depend of the developer, if they dont want to port the game, like Sega with chuchurocket, Well, it won't come until they change their minds.

In that same store they listed the TW3 for Switch and it took a long time to be announced and released.

Also, we don't know if internally the game has had some kind of delay, as has happened with all recent warner games.
The game doesnt have to be advertised in a direct, Warner could announce it on its own
The Witcher 3 has 5 months between leak and announcement. We had 1 year for Batman, more than twice time has passed.

Tbh it sounds like they have internally cancelled this instead of delaying it. Or never was a thing to begin with. Two of the games are basically PS3 titles, they could have released just them as "Return to Arkham" pack. No need to hold them off for no reason.

Like I said, all current warner games have received internal delays. Most likely that is.

In any case, it seems to me that we already had this conversation many, many months ago.
Simply if you don't believe it's real, then don't expect it. And let whoever prefers to wait for it, wait for it. Nothing indicates that this game does not exist.

Hey all.

I have a very good feeling about today. Not necessarily based on a rumour, but just a soft rumble in my heart.

I know I said the same thing yesterday, but such are the ways of Team January.
I wish I had this positivity in life

Ah I’m familiar with Apple Arcade, the hope walking in was that Ride On would be a Switch game and likely an easy Direct inclusion. Thus it not being the case being an ill omen.

It can be a direct inclusion... for 2024 february direct

This is going to be a strange year because Nintendo appears to be done after May. Just saw Jeff Grubb's podcast and it seems he believes TotK is the last big Switch game.
What can we expect after Zelda?
This E3 is going to be interesting (or disappointing).

It shoudnt have been possible to change the vote.
I feel like it should, the poll closes in 3 days anyway. I thought that's better than closing it way later in the month or somewhere early in February. If that was the case anyone would then change the vote if there would be some leaks/rumors. When the poll closes so early anyone has to vote with their instinct and I think that's the best possible way.

Last """"E3's"""" Mini Partner Direct was my favorite direct ever. It had Harvestella, Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection, and Persona ports. It was my perfect Direct and I wasn't even expecting it.

I think in this fuzzy time in the late life cycle of the Switch has the capacity to be really cool with surprises like last """"E3's"""" direct. If your enjoyment of the Switch completely relies on HUGE Nintendo first-party titles like Zelda you may be bored but I think we could still see some cool surprises as long as people are still buying Switches.

All the hopes and dreams of team January rests on today, if the prime leak fails what awaits them is just a long and painful month of disappointment and rumours until February arrives with the real Nintendo Direct.
Say your prayers now Team January

...or we just wait until next week.

Or the week after that...

Or...

Weeks 2 and 4 of January have a lot of appeal if today falls through. I’m really feeling good about week 2 since I don’t think Bayonetta Origins is the only March game.

Ok big question, why are we talking about a direct mini? I don't think we heard any rumours about the next direct being a mini, it's this the classic famiboards pessimism because we think that Nintendo doesn't want to talk about TotK ever?

yeah am getting September 2022 de ja vu. "It's going to be a Mini, it's going to be a Partner". The cycle is always the same.

I don't actually KNOW, but my best guess is that in the past, if a direct happened in January it was mostly (or even always?) a mini. Thr Switch reveal event aside.

That being said, I expect a full direct. They need to talk about TotK and there is no reason to put it off anymore (the game has been rated so it's finished, the holidays sales are over...)

It's just fun speculation I'm not that serious.

I think the last January anything was a shadow-dropped mini in 2018. That's why I said "mini" but who knows? I also don't think Mini inherently means "lesser" than a general Direct. That's just me though.

No pessimism here. Impossible to be team January and a pessimist.

There's 4 dated Nintendo titles and yet I feel it would be sweet with some news :p

But there is, they have a pretty big game in Fire Emblem coming soon and it's marketing is in full swing on and there's really nothing to gain from starting a huge TotK blowout in the next two or so weeks that cant wait a few more weeks.

Let Fire Emblem have these weeks.

It depends what you mean by 'last big Switch game'. If you mean 'high production value game from EPD' then yes, Zelda may be the last exclusive title of that kind that launches on Switch before any successor is on the market; but even then there's stuff like 2D Mario, the other 2D game in development at EPD Tokyo (Donkey Kong?), and EPD Tokyo's next 3D Mario that are all candidates for Switch - possibly as exclusives, possibly as cross-generation titles alongside a successor.

Ultimately I don't think there's any scenario where there's a noticeable software 'drought' post Zelda. Switch generates 95% (or more) of Nintendo's income, and so they absolutely need to keep releasing software. This isn't like the handheld/home console era, where slack from one system was picked up by the other console (e.g. Wii U was functionally dead in late 2016, but Nintendo still had Pokemon on 3DS). We should also consider that, with Zelda in May, and a new generation Pokemon having just launched, there's no obvious 'big game' that could launch in November. The odds of Nintendo allowing what could be Switch's last Christmas season as the main product go without notable software are slim to none; to be blunt without attempting to be disrespectful, I don't think journalists predicting Zelda as Switch's last 'big game' have really thought that through - there's the rest of the fiscal year and the holiday sales season for Nintendo to cover here. Of course, it's debatable what is meant by 'big game'; something like Mario Party is commercially huge but likely won't be counted by the Extremely Online as a 'big game'.

The way I see it right now, there are two distinct possibilities when we're looking at the final third of the year:

  • Switch is getting 'replaced' this Christmas season, which is why Nintendo are potentially keeping their cards close to their chest, thus stumping journalists who expect to know a little more about Nintendo's plans through the grapevine. Something big - probably 3D Mario - launches alongside the new hardware (perhaps exclusive, perhaps cross-gen). Other cross-gen Nintendo titles launch around that period (Pikmin 4, perhaps Donkey Kong, perhaps an Animal Crossing spin-off).
  • Switch isn't getting replaced and so remains Nintendo's primary offering this Christmas. Nintendo find ways to bring out major franchises - an Animal Crossing spin-off is joined by something that can be positioned as a 'big title' - perhaps 2D Mario or 2D Donkey Kong. This is rounded out by smaller titles (Style Savvy? Advance Wars?) and Pikmin 4 in the final four months of the year. Animal Crossing spin-off, 2D Mario, and 2D DK don't count as 'big' in the eyes of journalists, or simply aren't on people's radars just yet. 3D Mario and other notable titles - Metroid Prime 4? - are held back for 2024 and new hardware.

Sorry for the long post; but in either scenario I think it's actually fairly easy for Nintendo to keep chugging Switch along with regular releases while still being in a good position for their next system; especially because I expect to see a fair amount of cross-generation software.

Oh is it time again alrd for this thread to spiral into a cycle of hype and despair? XD
Oooooh... so THAT's what the HD in the rumored Metroid Prime remakes/remasters stands for! Metroid Prime Hype and Despair! That explains SO much!

:(

Although, I'm okay with that. The Switch is my favorite console ever, but at this point I want a new generation console as soon as possible.
I'm okay with an empty year if that means the next cosole comes with lots of huge games, just like Switch did.

Lmao I guess I became a certified leaker tm
Oh, believe me, you don't want that. A few years ago, on a different forum, I made a joke that Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 was gonna be announced for the Switch as an exclusive to counteract the fact that the then-upcoming Avengers game was very unlikely to be Switch-bound.

Fast forward to the Game Awards 2018... and MUA 3 is announced for the Switch as an exclusive. And a couple of guys on that forum actually started believing that I was some insider with actual information and started pestering me for new reveals through constant DMs. It was funny at first, but it got annoying really fast.

A couple of Nintendo youtube channels had playlists updated today without any new videos appearing in them afaik.

The gift of prophecy sounds like a curse.

As someone who looks at the final Smash Ultimate roster, hears someone ask the question "who's original games have you played before the came to Smash?" With the word "yes", a year of "not major" Nintendo titles is okay with me. Give me some new entries in more niche franchises.

Also with the looming threat of a Direct Mini, we could have one dropped almost any time.
I don’t think a Mini would be that bad if it’s this or next week specifically since I think the purpose would be just to get us through March, April, and tease May a smidge. At which point we’d get a proper Direct in March.

Alternately we just get a general week 4 of January or a week or two beyond.

The big thing that seems to be holding true with Directs lately is they don’t seem to repeat games very often for better or worse.

Late to the Animal Crossing discussion but I'm doubtful we'll ever see spin-offs again considering the only reason they were made during the 3DS & Wii U era was because they wanted to make amiibo for the series and needed a game to sell them alongside - literally from Aya Kyogoku herself:

"Initially, when the amiibo were announced, there was nothing really said about Animal Crossing amiibo or any plans for that matter. But as the Animal Crossing team, we were confident that if there was one, it would be really cute... honestly, we just wanted Animal Crossing amiibo. We wanted the company to make Animal Crossing amiibo, so that's why we made a game that works with them."

Aya Kyogoku via VG247 (July 9th 2015)

As we know, in 2015 a new Animal Crossing game was not in active development (and neither was the Welcome amiibo update for New Leaf). Concepts for New Horizons were established as early as 2012 after New Leaf was released in Japan, but active development only began around late 2016 or perhaps even later

imo the only potential for a spin-off game is the Happy Home Designer series and we already got that within New Horizons as expansion content. there's no doubt the Animal Crossing team is working on the next game already. considering how receptive they are with listening to fan feedback and criticism, and how much of a controversy New Horizons caused, I'm sure they're probably eager for the series to return to form - we already saw hints of that within the 2.0 update

EPD5 are easily Nintendo's most consistent developers, they've been releasing new games, expansions, and update content at a pace unheard of from Nintendo's other first parties. now that Splatoon 3 has been released, at this point the next Animal Crossing game is very likely only 2-3 years away

As someone who doesn’t care about half of Nintendo’s first party IP and is more interested in ports and AA Japanese games this is sounding like my kind of year.

Just to give people an idea of potential Post-Zelda Nintendo projects:

  • Advance Wars 1&2 Reboot Camp (confirmed, TBC)
  • Pikmin 4 (confirmed, 2023)
  • Metroid Prime 4 (confirmed, TBC)
  • Detective Pikachu (confirmed, TBC)
  • EPD 8 3D action game (hiring call, October 2019)
  • EPD 10 2D action game (hiring call, October 2019)
  • EPD 8 2D action game (hiring call, August 2020)
  • Nintendo x Bandai-Namco 3D action game remaster (hiring calls in 2022/23)
  • SynSophia fashion game (hiring call, December 2020)
  • Grezzo medieval fantasy game (hiring call, 2021; trademark 'Jet Dragon' registered in 2022)
  • Finished but unannounced Retro Studios game (LinkedIn, September 2021; heavily rumoured to be Metroid Prime remastered)

Before we even get into the realm of speculation, rumours and guesswork, you can run up 11 titles all potentially heading to Switch and/or its successor. Throw on the recent F ZERO rumours or the older rumours of a Fire Emblem remake in the works to launch after the latest new titles, as well as some guesswork - that studios like NdCube are perhaps due to launch new software on Switch; that Good-Feel probably have Nintendo-contracted software as well as their own self-published game in the works for Switch; that perhaps Monolith Soft have been working on an action game after all; that NST now have an unusually high number of game designers and might be working on their own project; and so on.

Entirely possible some of these aren't for Switch, and very likely a number of these won't launch exclusively for Switch and are instead going to end up being cross-generation; but I don't really see the pace of releases on Switch slowing, even if we end up with more re-releases and spin-offs than 2022.
