The rumor of something Prime related coming soon came from Reddit, right? To me "soon" sounds like January, and a few days before FE Engage would make sense to have a general Direct (January 18 - 19)

I speculate a DLC pass will be announced in the next direct. Going out on a limb here!

Now available for purchase: Nintendo Direct Speculation |ST4| Expansion Pass
Wave 1: Pokemon Presents Speculation
Wave 2: The Legend of Zelda Direct Speculation
Wave 3: Mr. Sakurai Presents Speculation
Wave 4: Space World 2023 Speculation

i wonder if totk's inevitable expansion pass will be free with NSO expansion pack
I’m of the opinion that any “day 1” expansion pass DLC will only be for multiplayer games and the single player stuff might come years after. We’ve only gotten Octo expansion, so doubt any of the other single player stuff will come. I think they want the stuff that can maintain recurring subs, which are those repeat experiences.

yeah, you're probably right. the free DLC seems to be mostly for multiplayer games.

How is Team February in the lead?

Nah. Why overshadow your new game with a bunch of other new game announcements. I'd say that week is the only week that has 0 chance of a Direct.

Why do many people think its January? I feel like February is the usual month for a Direct, but could be anytime really I guess. I am going with early-mid February for now to be safe lol

Probably because of the TOTK OLED model leak and other rumours related to Metroid and F-Zero. There has been an unusual amount of noise for this time of year

There's no way the Direct is before Fire Emblem comes out, so after January 20th. Which leaves only one week in January, so I'm going with February.

Metroid Prime rumours are actually a complete joke at this point, like, when Jeff Grubb, one of the most credible people in the industry is 100% certain it’s gonna launch in 2022, and then it doesn’t, you know this shit is fucked. “Be primed and ready” genuinely sounds like a joke we’d make and whether it’s legit or not, it’s not moving my predictions for the year by even a smidge until it’s made official

This would be the most Nintendo move. Wait a year or two after the last DLC to add another set instead of maintaining the momentum. Probably would work for this game though.

I think most fans at this point just want the next Animal Crossing. Happy Home Paradise really made the game feel complete, there's so much to do in AC now that there's just not more you could add without making every day a huge slog.

Bayonetta Origins is a small enough game that theoretically another game could fit it it has to. April has a major Nintendo release in the Mario movie and we all know what's in May. If the deleted Reddit guy is right a Metroid Prime announcement is imminent and since Nintendo favors short announcement to release window the release is probably imminent too.

Oh true, thats very exciting then. Could be an announcement this week maybe or they wait until late January after Fire Emblem? Idk

The odd-numbered years are the years Nintendo acknowledges Metroid Prime 4.

2017: Announcement
2019: Development update
2021: Acknowledged in Dread reveal
2023: We will see...

2023 will be mp4 will be canceled, and we are rebooting Metroid as a third person soulslike.

It’s gonna be in February or a month earlier in February Origins: Furukawa and the Lost Direct

It's possible that they wait until FE is out, but i don't think it would be that unlikely for them to have a Direct on the week of the game with one last trailer for it. Either way, it's gonna be close. The 2021 February Direct was held a week after Bowser's Fury came out

Thinking again about this list, there's a few question marks and extra things that could swap in or be added on top of it all:

  • Super Mario games. I don't think Nintendo let 2023 go by without a single Mario game. 2D and 3D are due, but at least one will be held for launching new hardware, I suspect. Difficult to guess what spin-offs are coming, but Nintendo usually have Mario in June and October.
  • Donkey Kong. I do think EPD 8 are also working on a DK game, and I wonder if 2023 is finally time. It'd make a good year end release for Nintendo.
  • Good-Feel. Nothing on Nintendo systems since 2019, and their second planned self-published game never emerged. A Woolly World port? A new Wario title? Something else?
  • New IP. 2022 marked the first year of Switch with no new IP from Nintendo as well as no re-releases. Generally there's at least one a year, even if it's something small.

I think that the 2D DK game by EPD Tokyo would make a better sense in 2024, when the DK expansion to theme park is coming.

Do we know for sure that it's 2D?
We don't know anything until it's oficially announced of course. But EPD Tokyo is working on 2 games, 2D and 3D one (this is also confirmed with the job listing) and I mean it would be cool to have 3D DK made by them but that would mean no 3D Mario from them, which is essentially their most prestique title so that will not happen, and they will not do 2D Mario, that's reserved for EPD10.
