I am thinking February but will genuinely laugh if February comes and goes and there is still no new Tears of the Kingdom footage. Of course I don't want that to happen lol.

Nintendo Direct Mini in January - I say mini as it would be Fire Emblem Engage, Metroid Prime HD, F-Zero GX HD and the Kirby remake HD and then maybe a couple third party ports.

Nintendo Direct in March that is mainly focused on TotK with a few third parties.

Nintendo Direct in June for E3 to showcase Pikmin 4 and the rest of the 2nd half 2023 line up.

I can see this newest DK title to be a FY2023/24 and maybe its early 2024 (like february) so there is a +6 months space between it and other 2 potential 2D/3D Mario projects.

If thats the case I would expect an announcement at E3 or September Direct.

I think the best scenario would be if those 3 games are different, linear 2D Mario, linear 3D DK and open world 3D Mario

I would really like to Emily or Nate appear and clarify the big mystery of DK game.

I imagine FF9 Remake will be ps5/pc exclusive
PS has enough FF exclusives next year. Whatever else Square has will be multiplat and 90% on Switch.

I kinda expect this FF9 remake to be stylized one, rather than a remake that pushes graphics limits. Maybe closer to the style Bravely series has.

On January 12th there will be only 4 months left before the release of TOTK.

If the leaker of reddit who referred to Prime insinuates that there could be a direct very soon (possibly January for once and not February) I think we could see the first real trailer of TOTK.

BOTW had 3 real trailers, so we can expect at least 2 for TOTK, the previous teasers representing 1 meager first trailer.

Crazy to think we still don’t have an original top down Zelda for switch?

Edit: switch is fully charged, back to Bayonetta 3!

I REALLY want a new Top Down Zelda. :c A Link Between World is great, but it is also so much of a Link To The Past 'sibling' that it doesn't feel entirely new.
I'd love a fully new one. A more traditional Zelda.

I'll be honest, if we go through February without any new footage of TotK I want them to show nothing else until release, let everybody go in blind without knowing anything of the game.
An horrible marketing strategy yes, but think of how amazing the experience would be playing the game day 1 and finding new stuff with the rest of the world (of course everything would be ruined by the people leaking the game early)

I think when it comes to seeing footage vs not seeing footage, everyone's "brain" is wired differently. For me personally, I have been having a hard time getting excited for TOTK and Zelda is my favorite franchise EVER. I personally feel that the clips we have gotten so far have been mostly boring. HOWEVER I also know that there is a very solid chance the actual finished game will be something incredible that will blow my mind. I guess I just personally wanted something to get me hyped and excited for this game. Generally I don't even think about it all that much unless I see it come up in conversation. I just want to be hyped. Don't need to have the whole thing spoiled. Just need something to get me really amped up for it. I may get there by release but I would rather get there now but I understand your side of things as well. Honestly, I wish I was more like you in terms of being able to wait and see nothing at all and go in blindly.

I'm actually on the same boat as you, I have pretty much 0 hype for the game right now because we have seen pretty much nothing and the thing we've seen are not as groundbreaking as you would expect from a zelda game.
So I pretty much don't think about the game and focus on other things, but since we have a release date I'm kind of set, in the end we'll find out if the game is in may so to me the wait is easy even without much footage. I would like to see new cool stuff that makes me think this is the Next big zelda but they're other games I'm hyped about too so it's not something I desperately need.

It's also been hard for me because effectively the game is more or less using the same game engine, graphics and world map as used before which also doesn't exactly get me excited. I'm just having a really difficult time understanding what is actually NEW here beyond some island trials in the sky. Like are there all new villages? A full on story? Full scale dungeons? Underwater exploration? Something more? I see the footage we did get and think it basically looked like a small BOTW expansion but being 6 years later from that game, I wanted something far more and new. Honestly I also wanted to play this new one in 4K with better visuals which I personally am going to rule out for now. I know this game will deliver and probably be something special but until I see more and hear more details, I'm just not there yet.

In general lots of people here and elsewhere are way too toxic towards the likes of Emily and (moreso) Nate. I'm not surprised if they've given up on leaking when most people are downright hostile to it.
(Happy New Year everyone!) Similar to when they created Samushunter and then Siluxhunter????

The boards are interesting, as an anecdote from 2022, on a Japanese board I entered a thread where the name of a project was discussed, achieved and progress. that was two weeks before the announcement of the delay of the then BOTW2, without knowing I entered from thread to another more elaborate board, with avatars, where As explained they were presenting progress, but since I did not read, the identification instructions in the previous forum I went expelled, hehehe, although I did not confirm it, I was close to seeing the trailer and he succeeded before anyone else, I came to think that it was BotW2. There was talk of a general direct of 48 or 46 min and a meeting next Monday, after a few weeks the delay of BOTW2 was announced, coincidence? and the strangest thing is that in another thread on the same day of the announcement, a user identified himself as a YouTube marketing employee of an important company, and wanted to know about youtubers who were broadcasting live, there in Japan it was early morning. Hehehe maybe it was nothing, but I did understand that the way information is communicated has changed through social networks, many serious companies already create eye-catching headlines, I miss the formal interviews conducted prior to the release of trailers, now there are 'rumors' until the trailers.

This post greatly represents why I also don't belive in the ToTK Direct. Treehouse like presentation is much more fitting to the game itself.

It would actually be funny if the General in February ends with Zelda once again, making it for the 4th time. But maybe this ending spot will be reserved for a 3D Mario.
That's literally my first and only post in this forum so far, and I am always proud when you bring it back :) My thinking hasn't changed one bit in that regard.

Happy Year of Tears of The Kingdom to everyone!

Same here. The idea that all that top down Zelda may get for the next few years is just more remakes depresses me to no end. And this with me knowing the first Zelda and Oracles are among my favorite all-time games.

That's another reason I'm looking forward to BayOrigins. Another Zelda-like action rpg from a number of the same peeps who gave me Okami, another one of my faves? I'm in there.

Yeah... like, I'll happily play remakes of these games, but, I really want a big, fully new Top Down Zelda again. At least give me one... XD I'll play Oracles remakes, but 2D Zelda deserves at least ONE brand new game on the Switch. Tho I suspect there won't be one.
Not sure what BayOrigins is, but I am all for more games like that, haha.

I’m in a similar boat as @Kevin and @Kartina regarding the lead-up to Tears of the Kingdom. I was just talking to a friend about this. Breath of the Wild is one of my favorite games ever, and naturally I was thrilled when the sequel was announced. But that was over 3 years ago, and substantial updates have been very few and far between. Yes, I know that the pandemic is largely to blame for that, but i just find it hard to feel genuine hype for a game that I rarely ever see anything new about. I guess it speaks a lot to my media consumption habits that I can only be excited for something if I’m having content pertaining to it shoveled down my throat.

2023 is going to be a STACKED year in my opinion. Pretty much stuff hitting every single month that interests me and I know and have seen lots of coverage for all of these games with just a couple of exemptions like Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. I don't know. I'll get there I think. I imagine we will finally see something in February and then more as we head towards release but it feels very weird how little marketing this game has seen thus far (I guess the new normal for Nintendo now). In a couple of months we all might be sitting here talking about how great TOTK looks and how excited we are to play. At least I hope I am. :)

I honestly think it's natural to not be as hyped for zelda, we've been shown so little that the game feels like it doesn't exist. It's the same thing for metroid prime 4, I know they're making it but I have 0 hype for it because without something of substance there's no reason to want the game.
It's the same problem with those cgi trailers that show no gameplay, in the end if I have nothing (or close to nothing in the case of zelda or pikmin 4) I'll just focus on other games.

You know, I would love for the next direct to be either this Wednesday or Thursday lol is it probable? Not in the slightest. But if it happens, it would bring full on chaos lol and that I am down for. Still voted for a Feb direct tho lol

I know that TOTK will live up to its predecessor, and I know that I’ll love every second of it. What they have shown off looks great, but I feel like we’ve seen so little. TOTK is currently the only 2023 game I’m looking forward to, but on top of other games I’m already working on and DLC, I have no problem waiting until May 12.

Always vote that directs are cancelled. It's all about setting those expectations to be exceeded.

Jokes aside it is always funny looking back in that 2020 era where a lot of people actually thought directs were dead and would say thing like "hey Twitter drops are better anyways, directs were never good." And then that one direct was finally announced and those same people were like "OH THANK GOD."

Oh, that's the new spinoff, Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon.

Here's the initial trailer shown at the Game Awards, last month...

...and here's a small slice of gameplay (likely from the first few minutes of the actual) that was a "Secret Chapter" in Bayonetta 3.

I fell in love as soon as I played it the first time, and hoped we'd at least get DLC focusing on it. But they decided to go beyond that!

We need a new insider to take the mantle from Emily and Nate.
Dibs not it 👃👆

Can't imagine a more thankless job lol

You people are so foolish, we literally have 90% of H1 mapped out for us and you think we get two generals and a mini before July?!

Actually wait, this makes perfect sense and you’ve spelled it out for us, January Mini, followed by ToTK Direct and Partner Showcase in March! Sounds reasonable to me!

Y’know what, fuck it

A few weeks ago I was bored out of my mind, and whooped this up, was gonna keep it to myself but some friends wanted to see, and since the thread is back, enjoy my stupidly detailed predictions for Nintendo in 2023

I'm saving this for my morning routine tomorrow - a 37 pp presentation about Nintendos plan for 2023? Love it

This would be a great year if this happened, which is how I know that it won’t! 😀

Did
Did you predict/make the TOTK Switch OLED leak because what you're describing is surprisingly accurate to what came out a few days ago

I’m really not trying to toot my own horn but yes, I wrote up the TOTK OLED days before the model surfaced. Granted the dock is white with a gold triforce design instead of beige with monochrome key art, but I mean, yeah, guess I was onto something;)
