Interesting, even more code-in-a-box releases:
Borderlands Legendary Collection (19.99 €),
The Outer Worlds (19.99 €),
Bioshock Collection (19.99 €).

Code-in-a-box releases are annoying. At least these are less expensive than the standard eShop versions and the collections aren‘t completely on cartridge in the regular physical release anyway. To have so many code-in-a-box releases seems rather wasteful, though.

I mean, Scott Pilgrim has to be gaming adjacent enough that it's acceptable round here.

Friend of mine in university told me once when the movie came out she was completely oblivious to the Ramona Flowers comparisons she was getting from her friends who saw the movie before her while in high school (rainbow hair colours will do that), and since she saw the film ended up embracing the character a fair bit. She also once walked past Hillcrest Park when they were filming that snowy scene and didn't know what it was for at the time.

In hindsight, I kinda missed the chance having her take me on a tour of all the locales in the city shown off. Felt that dream died especially once Honest Ed's was torn down for fucking condos

Got a name picked out for my new island in Animal Crossing once the update drops. Ready to enjoy those first few days again.

Nintendo heard the cries of people wishing for the "ol' Nintendo" which is why they're bringing back late European releases with Pikmin Bloom.

Spoilers, obviously.
But, I agree completely with the video. That’s the level design of Dread and I noticed at my second playthrough.

Maybe that’s why I love so much the game. 🤔

just disagree with the conclusion, as I loved the level design even if it is guided

Every day it hurts my heart. Thankfully I got to dick around in there quite a few times before it was obliterated.

If it was affordable housing, which we desperately need, I wouldn’t be nearly as mad!!

Finally got my free OLED today. I'll say this, it's not a required upgrade but it's a huge upgrade nonetheless. I wish the launch switch was built like this 👏🏿

With how frequently my joycons decide to randomly disconnect (while attached) I'm definitely eyeing a SWOLED.

$350 is a hell of a price tag for fixing a minor annoyance though.

Mark Brown just NAILS his explanations. The bit about 'pacing and action-focus' metroidvanias versus 'exploring and navigating a giant spaghetti world' metroidvanias is spot on. I don't think it was a problem that Metroid Dread is the the former; as he says, it does a good job of trying to hide that linearity and let you feel the good parts of exploration too, and I still really liked it because of that.

BUT: I admit I am also in the second camp, like him. My favorite parts of a metroidvania are when you've been completely lost for like an hour (or more), have no idea where to go to progress, and suddenly stumble upon how to move forward and you get that rush of figuring it out. Or when you're backtracking across the whole map with your shiny new ability, wondering what you'll be able to do with it, and instead of finding a few small powerups, you suddenly find an entire new zone of the game you didn't know existed, or a secret hidden boss, etc. That is my JAM. And why I love Hollow Knight so much.

But of course, there are different types of games for all different people, and Metroid games have usually fallen more in the action/fast-paced camp anyway, so it's not something I really hold against Dread. It's still a phenomenal Metroid game and my current GOTY.

It’s that or MK8 honestly. I’ve never had issues with Splatoon 2’s online
Splatoon 2 is utter shit. Every session I had, one or more people were warping around, had super bullets that killed you in one hit and the tickrate was even lower compared to the first one, which made things worse. The games constantly felt unfair, cause the underlying tech fucked you over.
And no, I wasn't the problem, since I used a wired connection, have stable and high up- and download rates and my friends can attest the same. Splatoon 2 was shit and behind standards for online game even in 2017

So far it's been really sturdy and the new kickstand puts the floppy leg to shame. Nintendo should have released this as the standard model

Now that Advance Wars is delayed, BDSP is the last new release of the year for me. That’s.. kind of a relief! It’s been a very busy year for me, between all the amazing Switch games and the birth of my first kid. One of those might be more important than the other, haha.

look I’ve been trying not to mention the old place but there’s this “Gameplay is King” is a Pervasive Lie thread that is giving me severe brain worms

just the level of vitriolic discourse is making my head spin

Oooooooof

Talk about a minefield of a thread, jesus

Hey I’m gonna mention the old place and just say:

That website mostly sucked!

Honestly, that's exactly where I am. I only got to visit it twice, and it's like...is there a term for longing to have a piece of nostalgia that you know you'll never have and it's futile to lament its loss?

Similarly, my only experience with Sam The Record Man is a photo I bought of the front of the store from a record shop in Frankenmuth, MI whose purchase came with a side of Robin Williams' "Good Morning Vietnam!" soundtrack with all the radio soundbites from the movie.

Man, wouldn't it be nice to have a city council who was a smidge more proactive about the housing market in the city. What a dream, eh? Christ, at this rate I'm surprised the El Mo was blessed enough to have a rebirth, in a pandemic of all times.

Oh, and fun update! @Derachi too! At 9PM on a Thursday night, my controller finally shipped via Purolator!

Huzzah!

I feel kinda weird (in a good way) knowing @Brofield and @Suswave are just a few hours away from me

When do we have the FamiBoards meetup (post pandemic obviously)
I can't wait to find out we already know each other through some six degrees of separation (and even then I'd be shocked if there's any more than two degrees)

I'm in favour of Kensington Market on a late Spring day as it warms up, truthfully I just like the area and desserts offered haha

do not read ResetEra

we are free

do not punish yourselves

Man, playing Ocarina of Time and Super Mario 64 on an N64 controller is making me extremely nostalgic. As far as I can tell the controller feels exactly like the original ones, just a tad heavier.

Which means the analog stick is making my thumb hurt a bit, haha

Has anyone taken one of the new N64 controllers apart? Be intresting to see what changes may have been made.

The old place at this point is a colossal wreck. Just let it be boundless and bare, we need not think of their sneers in cold command. (with apology to Percy Bysshe Shelley)

Good to know you're getting the full experience at least

I specifically hate hearing about dumb things random people said on ResetEra. people say dumb shit here, maybe if you replied to them instead of reading era the site wouldn't be so fucking slow

Can more anime games be like Demon Slayer Hinokami Chronicles? Please and thank you!

Gameplay is king is a lie

Whew. That's certainly a take.

Raccoon is right, this thread is definitely slow. On one hand I get it, because the community used to only have one thread and now has an entire board, so our General Discussion thread is bound to be slower than it was at the old place, but on the other hand, it sucks sometimes seeing this thread not moving at a good clip.

:I at era talk.

I've hit the phase in my life where all I play is a MMO (FFXIV) and Gacha games (TBF, I play Dragalia and Fire Emblem Heroes, so that's my dose of Nintendo there. :p) Putting everything else on the backburner for now.

Things will pick back up when people begin to get desperate for Directs. Discussion on the old site slowed down significantly when we actually had things to talk about and picked up when there was nothing to do but to anticipate the next presentation.

Is this thread actually all that slow compared to usual? We're in one of the slowest times of year for news, now that the September Direct and followup events have all happened. There's not going to be much of anything in the way of news until the Game Awards, most likely. The only other time of year I can think of that's similarly quiet is like... July? Or maybe late December.

We can all talk about SMTV and BDSP soon, but it's slim picking for news for a while.

It does feel like there’s nothing to speculate on lately. The Switch Pro rumors have seemingly died, all of Nintendo’s 2021 games are announced and either released or will be soon, and we know a lot about their 2022 lineup.

This time last year we had nothing to talk about except Hyrule Warriors and the fact that Nintendo’s 2021 lineup was a complete and total mystery.

I don't think we necessarily need to go fast, we're not Sonic after all. But anyway, how about that candy corn?
