Kids made some really cool flow art, perfect for a phone background.
Now I want to play Splatoon 3

I swear, the area my step-great-granddad lives is like real life Pokemon Snap. Just wandering around we saw wallabies, mating butterflies, and these enormous rays right near the beach.
The photos I got don't do them justice, they were as big as I was.

Decided to use a chunk of my Christmas bonus to buy all the GKids steelbooks of Miyazaki's movies because I'm a responsible 34 year old.

I definitely understand the case for Into the Spider-Verse being the best Spider-Man movie, and for the most part, I agree with it, but I also don’t think it really has any of my favorite Spider-Man movie moments, like Spider-Man saving the train full of people in Spider-Man 2, and the part where he saves everyone on the bridge in the original Spider-Man, honorable mention to the Washington Monument scene in Homecoming.

I’m just very conflicted.

Knives Out is so damn good. We rewatched it in anticipation of Glass Onion. It’s even better on a rewatch.

Ugh feel like crap and have no idea how I’m handling tomorrow if I need to actually work.

Haha wouldn't it be so wacky and kooky of Nintendo to announce in less than twelve hours that GoldenEye is being released on Wednesday 🥲

Played about 3 ours of Tactics Ogre. I like it so far but I can tell it's going to one of those games where I won't believe the percentages shown on screen and accuse the AI of cheating. The enemy randomly getting two critical hits in and blocking all of my attacks right as I was to finish a bunch of them off? Doubt.

Iirc Fire Emblem literally does lie about stats, or they simply don’t work the same way they do in reality. Not sure if it’s like that in Tactics Ogre though.

Not sure about Fire Emblem. I haven't really had issues with the RNG in recent games though I felt the GBA games were a little more unfair if I recall. I do know the outcomes are already baked in at the state of turn. So if you had a 90% chance of hitting an attack and you miss, you'll always miss even if you rewind the turn or load a save.

Yep, I'm an Aussie. Raised out in the bush, where we actually had a wombat living under mum's house for a while, no joke. So like, very Australian even by Australian standards haha. (EDIT: Didn't see the above til I posted, so cheers for remembering!)

You an Aussie too? :)

Games have to fudge statistics a lot because the way stats really work usually doesn't mesh well with how the average person thinks they should work. One of the most common examples is the belief that a 50% chance means half of your attempts will succeed. That 90% accuracy is practically a guaranteed hit, and a 20% accuracy is practically a guaranteed miss.

This was a pretty funny point of contention in XCOM: Enemy Unknown, actually. Players were so mad at the RNG in that game's higher difficulties that they dissected it... and they found out that the statistics were 100% correct. What was happening was that lower difficulties were cheating with the numbers to help the player.

Fire Emblem does actually lie, but in favor of extremes (which usually favors the player). It basically rolls the number twice, then takes the average, so the true chance is more skewed the further you get toward zero or one hundred percent chance to hit (so for example an 80% chance to hit is really like a 92%, a 95% is 99.55%, and a 10% chance to hit is only 2.1%, etc.). There's a good explanation of it here:

Yoshi's Island final boss theme is like a top 5 SNES song for me. Yoshi's Island was such a banger game, I sold my damaged Yoshi's Island SNES box for $50 last year, semi regret it.
I just did the Raphael the Raven battle, speaking of bangers. The cinematic and musical build up during the intro, leading to the big surprise where the whole world and sky are rotating around, and just the absolute rock of the boss theme, it's sooo good.

This whole game is amazing. I don't understand why they don't make another Yoshi game with this sort of intensity. Even the new Kirby has more hype moments than Crafted World.

Edit: Actually here's a belated Festivus grievance: Nintendo! Give Yoshi his edge back!! Yall have the creative art styles down to a science, now increase his running speed, make the levels more athletic, and bring back the killer music!!

So I just found out one of the Dragon Ball albums I had growing up, which has some lovely songs I've enjoyed since I was a kid, was apparently a widespread bootleg with several songs that aren't even from any DB series.

That's.. a strange realization.

Nothing makes me realize that I have no idea what's currently popular in music more than seeing the 'best of' end-of-year lists and knowing zero of the songs on it. At least I always get a good kick out of Todd in the Shadows' "Top 10 Worst Hit Songs" of the year video.

I know these feels. Throughout most of my youth I didn't even know or hear most popular songs before I heard the Weird Al versions. I think Mandatory Fun was the first album where I had actually heard most of the original songs he was parodying first.

I'm so blissfully out of the loop.

You know, having an extra day off and just waking up relaxed in my bed is bliss. Last few mornings were fun, but having a five year old niece asking you if you are awake and just jumps on me while flattening me can be surprising

I know it's gonna be a good year for me if I already have to think about which games I will have to skip because of a lack of time...
Yeah, plenty of RPGs there - including Persona 4 - that are just going to have to go in the "maybe some day" pile.

But yeah. 2023 looking exciting already. Zelda, Fire Emblem, and Pikmin 4 as the headliners for me, but Octopath 2, Sea of Stars, Advance Wars (hopefully), Oxenfree 2, Raincode, and Metal Slug Tactics all very exciting things.

2023 gonna be one hell of year

First four months will be Fire Emblem, Project Zero IV, Like a Dragon Ishin! and Resident Evil 4 for me

I built a pretty sizeable backlog this year so I'm going into 2023 not needing anything for a while...

...or so I thought until I remembered that Fire Emblem is out in less than a month

I'm definitely interested in P4G, but it'll have to wait. FE Engage and Tales of Symphonia are bigger priorities for me

I'm hoping March and April are boring for me personally, because I'd like to go into Zelda with nothing else to concentrate on, unless Bayonetta Origins is really good. I'm probably going to get through Pikmin 3 DX this week, which is helpful, but FE and Octopath 2 as a start to the year is a pretty time intensive one-two.

I'm probably going to preorder FE physical, so I'll have until the end of January to get a successful Hades run and to finish MMX collection vol 1, so I can feel a little better about my backlog

Isn't it great when you wake up and think it's Wednesday and really it's a Tuesday? I basically won a free day.
I totally feel that, even during a work week. You have more time to be productive, it feels good sometimes.

Ugh. Anxiety is already hitting me. Hoping I can just grab my stuff and leave, I don’t know if I can last in the work enviroment when grocery shopping was enough to spike me

Zelda and persona 3 are the main ones for me. Not buying another SRPG till I finish SRW30 and I’ve got a heck of a backlog

They could have stretched the releases planned for the first three months over the whole year and it would have been a good year for the Switch. I really really hope FF XVI is not too long, otherwise my backlog will explode
