Rest in Peace Pelé.
While you have done some things that i certainly havent appreciated very much, you still deserve everyone's respect.

O Rei.

I’ve been posting across both Sports Story threads, but I feel it needs to be more well known, this game is full of bugs, performance issues, and has some fundamental flaws (Tennis is broken) that I’m not sure patches can fix. I was really looking forward to Sports Story, it easily was my most anticipated indie game since it was announced, but it is just not working correctly.

I’ve encountered: multiple hard crashes and thus lost progress, performance hitches (the game skips ahead and catches up) leading to missed shots, unclear objectives, broken objectives (the lumberjack tennis match no one can trigger) goals/scoring being broken across events (you can grab soccer balls out of a net and rescore again and again for example), broken UI (button prompts not appearing and even the wind counter failed me!), weird collision stuff (I got stuck in place on a random beach and had to restart the game to get unstuck and I had golf ball just hard stop in midair and sink down), and all kinds of chaos whenever an event has to be reloaded (bad respawns, the other side starting with extra points, busted timers, and more). There’s other weirdness beyond this including noticeably the wrong character in a cutscene, typos, and just other signs the game just wasn’t finished properly, but y’all get the point.

It sucks since there’s some cool stuff here (golfing is still fun, the writing is great, there’s lots of creative challenges etc.), but I’m all too often fighting the game instead of enjoying it. I really hope patches can turn this game around even though there’s so much on fire I don’t believe they can, but for now just avoid this game if you haven’t already bought it. I’m determined to finish it if possible (I’ve dodged known soft locks so far!) since I’m more than halfway done, but wait for some patches if you did buy it. What a disappointment.
Sad to say, my Sports Story journey is fully over. My save file always spawns a clone of my character that follows me across screens and any golf swing on course four locks the controls. I can no longer progress at all. Do not buy Sports Story. It is broken :(

Do not but Sports Story. It is broken
Thank you for the PSA. Too late for me but at least I'm not gonna start the game up and softlock myself out.

Only sad that the game released in that bad a state, and also I could have used the 15 bucks to nab some indies that were on sale instead. Ah well.

Yeah it really sucks. I was looking forward to it for years and since they shadowdropped it right before the holidays there were no reviews ahead of time to warn people. What a disaster.

Goddamn, I'm sorry to hear about this kind of troubled development but I sincerely hope management is raked over the coals appropriately for fostering such a toxic workplace.

considering sports story is self-published and, last i checked, was about two or three people i'm not sure there's a management to rake over the coals

Fair enough, I didn't know it was just two or three people and figured it was more along the lines of 15-20 people. Still, something better clear the air to make sense of what happened here.

there aren't many bigger dev teams here due to lack of government funding and support. there are plenty of good indie games that come out of aus (hollow knight, golf story/sports story, goose game, hand of fate 1/2, etc) with very small teams but there aren't many bigger teams and the ones that are are usually stuck on aussie sports games

Sports Story is broken. See my post above.

That hidden room is essentially metacommentary on the final state of Sports Story by one of the developers and why it turned out as it did. Way too much feature creep.
Lol the video didn't load when I first checked so I thought it was just a still 🙄

But uhhh. That's uhhh. That's not, uhhh

That's what I thought. Either the creators are making fun of their own situation, or it is really really toxic right now.

Feature creep is for real.

I'm considering adding the ability to capture monsters. But it'll have to wait. For DLC maybe.

This is off-topic, but I've always found it funny how NSFW has basically become synonymous with sexual imagery. By definition, shouldn't NSFW cover anything that would make your boss give you side eye or worse? Obviously that's dependent on the industry you work in. For me, Famiboards itself (or anything gaming related) counts as NSFW. That's obviously not the case for someone working in the gaming industry. Similarly, for someone working in the porn industry, porn would not be NSFW lol
I think pretty much the only times I use the term "NSFW" is when I'm sending photos or videos of really outrageous cooking (as in, like, lots of bread or cheese or butter or garlic (or if I'm sending something that replaces all those or's with and's)).

I'd consider job posting websites NSFW.

Do you love eggs more than the welfare of nonhuman animals, and if your answer is yes, are you truly okay with that? That’s a hard-hitting question, I know, but it’s questions like that and seeing statements like my previous post that led to me going vegan, and ultimately facing those uncomfortable truths is generally what’s needed for people to reexamine their principles and make changes to long held core beliefs. I used to be in a similar boat, too—before I went vegan, I was vegetarian for over a decade, but even then I resisted veganism for various reasons. Less so because “I love eggs/dairy/honey/etc. too much” and more so because I felt it would be too difficult for me and that being vegetarian was already “enough”, I guess. But in time the fact that my practices weren’t morally consistent with what I truly believed, as well as just learning more about veganism in general (because there are so many common misconceptions about it, unfortunately…) ended up pushing me to finally go vegan myself, and my only regret is that I wish I would have done it far sooner.

Also, plant-based egg alternatives exist! While there’s not much in the way of replacements for whole eggs (from what I’ve seen, at least; I have seen someone make a plant-based egg themselves but not an actual product that you can buy), there are replacements for eggs as ingredients or in other forms like scrambled eggs. Just Egg is a great option for the latter!

And, while debated among some vegans, real eggs can be vegan under the right conditions, albeit in small quantities. Say, for example, if you care for rescued hens taken from a factory farm—they’re going to still be producing tons of eggs because they’ve been genetically manipulated to do so (even though it’s hell on their body and not at all normal), and while most vegans will agree that the ethical thing to do is to let them eat their own eggs (which they will do) to recover the nutrients lost from having to produce the eggs in the first place, they may not eat all of them; if there are leftover eggs that would otherwise go to waste, there’s not really any ethical problem with eating them yourself, so long as you’re providing sufficient love and care to the hens.

If you take the steps to adopt the principles of veganism, you might be surprised with how easily the practices comes along with it. At least that’s how it was for me. I mean, cutting out meat (when I first went vegetarian) was the easiest thing in the world for me with that literally happening in an instant, and while I took longer weening off dairy, eggs, etc. until I finally went vegan, actually eating well, on the other hand, took quite awhile for me, lol, and I still struggle sometimes (but that would have been the case even if I wasn’t vegan/vegetarian, too). That’s mostly due to ADHD and executive dysfunction for me, though. But ultimately veganism isn’t diet, and believing in the principles of veganism—that unnecessary cruelty and exploitation to nonhuman animals is, obviously, wrong and should be avoided—is what made maintaining a meat-free and plant-based diet easy for me. Even with my disability, my partner and I find ways to make it work. One big thing that helps us is relying on Soylent meal replacement drinks for a lot of meals, since it’s entirely plant-based—and way more convenient than other meals, at that.

Regardless, good on you for reducing your meat consumption at least, and hopefully you’ll also end up going vegan someday, too! It’s very doable, more than you think! The thought of it can be a lot more daunting than actually doing it. And above all else, it’s simply the most ethical thing to do, even if it takes you awhile to get there and go vegan yourself.

“Cut out where you can” is literally the definition of veganism, though most people don’t realize that. It would be unrealistic and to expect otherwise.

“Veganism is a philosophy and way of living which seeks to exclude—as far as is possible and practicable—all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose; and by extension, promotes the development and use of animal-free alternatives for the benefit of animals, humans and the environment.”

Because of this, anyone can be vegan, regardless of if there are factors of their specific situation that prevent them from having a 100% plant-based diet or otherwise avoiding any and all forms of animal cruelty and exploitation. That said, in practice, it’s rare that someone truly can’t remove products of animal cruelty/exploitation from their life. As you said, “cut where you can”—in the vast majority of cases, there is absolutely nothing stopping people from cutting out all meat, dairy, etc. from their lives; nothing but themselves. Being “hardline” about it, as you put it (what you mean is just “being vegan”), absolutely is feasible for most people—you just have to be willing to put in a bit of effort to change your consumption habits, which is almost never as hard as people tend to think it is, especially nowadays when there are so many more plant-based options out there in addition to the usual plant-based diets that have existed for thousands of years.

Your anecdote is no excuse, either, especially when the people you mention weren’t even vegan in the first place so it probably wasn’t ever a matter of ethics for them to begin with (and if it was, it was never consistent, whether they cheat and ate meat occasionally or not). Also, if someone’s takeaway from being told that they shouldn’t be eating meat when they call themselves a vegetarian in the first place is to, uh…eat more meat, then that’s their shitty reaction; don’t blame vegans or other vegetarians for that. And yes, people consuming less animal products is always better than people consuming more, even if people aren’t entirely eliminating them from their lives…but if more people truly understood and adopted the principles of veganism, there’d be a hell of a lot less of that overall anyway.

That and not supporting the needless cruelty and exploitation of nonhuman animals is just the ethical thing to do. If you ever wonder why many vegans tend to be so loud and angry (aside from the fact that carnists are even louder and much more prevalent), it’s because that fact is continually ignored by people. It’s not about health, it’s not even a diet—veganism is a radical political stance against oppression, and vegans aren’t even the ones being oppressed yet we try desperately to get others to understand care about the atrocities that we commit towards nonhuman animals and so often get ignored or even fucking mocked for it. Mocked, for taking a stand against oppression where others won’t. Really? How very leftist of you. (Not addressing that last bit to you, specifically, to be clear, but that’s how it feels being vegan and being mocked by others—including so-called “leftists”—for standing up for nonhuman animals.)
Hi, I’ll never be a vegan. My choice is my choice. Stop telling people what to do.

I saw this on discord and liked it so much that I reuploaded it on youtube just to share here

Why does this song sound like it belongs in Shantae?

Either way I'm like

Just booked tickets to see Everything Everywhere at Once for the first time (and going in blind) since one of the local theaters is re-running it for a limited engagement, AMA

It might just be the devs blowing off steam. Some of the developer rooms in Squaresoft titles of yore have similar vibes although maybe a little less explicit about it, and that was also an era where crunch wasn't something people considered toxic.

My favorite film of the year. Enjoy!

Fake edit: Just saw this is an AMA, so I guess I amend my "Enjoy!" to "Enjoy?"

You are not ready for this film. But enjoy!

I would do unholy things to watch this movie again for the first time.

If it's anything I could possible ask, it would be to know your stream of conscious thought for what you think is about to happen next versus what actually happens lol

I'm looking up Tears of the Kingdom videos right now and I came across a video titled "Tears of the Kingdom might be HEAVILY influenced by Skyward Sword" and gee I wonder why? It's not like there's A TON OF FLOATING ISLANDS AND SKY MECHANICS IN THE TRAILERS OR ANYTHING. Ugh. And the thumbnail is super cringy too, it's just two Zelda posters and giant text that says "MAYBE". What on earth is this lmao

I can start to see the 2020 gears turning for next year: it'll have a bunch of games I really like but be absolutely miserable on the internet

this time I'm gonna try not to ruin the year for myself by talking about how lame it is the whole time, because in retrospect 2020 is easily one of my favorite switch years

Holiday Jazz Day 29: “Skating in Central Park” Modern Jazz Trio

A great cool jazz number that features amazing vibraphone playing by Milt Jackson. I think vibraphone may be the best instrument for wintery jazz music. Lewis’ piano plays a great rhythm and also some nice embellishments. The rhythm section from Heath and Kay help to lay that cool jazz foundation and really accent the other percussion.

Why people are wasting their time making TotK video theories is beyond me. Get like the best 1 minute of footage of Link from the 3 TotK trailers, edit in Tobey Maguire Spiderman meme material instead of Link, 1M views in a week.

I actually love theories. My issue with that video is that it isn't a theory or news, it's literally something WE ALREADY KNOW.

2020 had clubhouse, jerry! 51 games for the price of one! and it was a discount even! 51 games for 40 bucks, jerry, that's a steal

I've always been eyeing the OLED dock to have as a spare, simply because I still think something is being planned about having an HDMI 2.0 port that can facilitate 4K60 with an update patch to the dock that can unlock it's capabilities. Maybe not for much on the base Switch (regardless of new hardware on the horizon), but theoretically it could allow for 4K streaming from media apps like Netflix/Disney+/Prime/Hulu/Peacock/Paramount+/etc.

$87 CAD was always a hard sell for me...but $62 refurbished to have the ethernet port...that's not too bad a deal, right? Or am I better off getting the Genki Covert Mini Dock that does have a 4K HDMI port and works out to the same price as a brand new OLED dock with shipping? I mean, I travel just often enough that it would make sense to have the portable dock...and then I could just plug it in full time if the Switch does get media streaming until I get a hypothetical Switch 2 dock in 2023+n because it doesn't make too much sense to redo the R&D for a new dock if it just recycles the same capabilities as the OLED dock...

Does any of this make sense? Is this even a dilemma worth having?

I watched most of the movie with my mouth agape. It is the most a movie has wrung from my being since The Matrix.

That’s present day down on live a live. That’s 2 down. Think I’m going to swap to something else this evening, either FEWTH, arcade paradise or sd Gundam battle alliance. Not sure which but FEWTH is dropping cause it’s a cartridge swap and I’d like to continue working on LaL tomorrow

I've noticed I can get myself down by verbalizing the lameness of things, it's something I hate that I have to work on but I try to, and what I've found helps is instead of ignoring the misery, fuckin laugh at it. I know it's a very cliche and easier-said-than-done thing, but as someone who has a hard time not noticing when stuff is bullshit, I try to be a smug, sassy bitch about it instead of being depressed about it. I lift myself above misery through the power of sass.

Granted I'm told this ain't exactly a healthy long-term solution but it's at least good practice in reframing problems. 😅

I have no idea if this helps but at the very least I hope it gives you a chuckle

Got my new glasses yesterday! So that’s good. But then today one of my hearing aids stopped working, and it turns out that my local in-network audiologist apparently closed her practice in October.

Since the only other one in my network is like 15 miles away, I don’t need up ordering a replacement receiver since I know how to swap it myself, but I’m gonna have to go without a right hearing aid for a bit.

I still can't believe Everything Everywhere All at Once, Top Gun Maverick, and Puss in Boots Last Wish came out in the same year. Top Gun is in my top ten, Everything Everywhere is in my top five, and Puss is my number one. If you would have told me this coming into 2022 I would have laughed my ass off.

If you start getting too gloomy I pledge to say "hey buddy tell me all about how excited you are for Pikmin 4"

If it's after it releases I'll instead say "hey buddy how about you go play Pikmin 4"
