The plot of FF12 is just a bit odd all-around. It starts off as sort of a Star Wars "young teen nobody gets caught up in big world events" story, complete with joining up with a Han Solo sky pirate-type to save a princess on a spaceship, rebellion vs/ the empire, and all that. But then once you get a full party and start going toward the Tomb of Raithwall, most of the actually important parts of the plot happen off-screen or are political maneuverings that happen away from the party. Like 50% of the game in the middle section is just "we need to travel to location X" and plot takes a big backseat to just traveling, exploring, and doing side stuff on the way to big locations. And then you get into the Occuria section and traveling to the Great Crystal and into the endgame, which I honestly like a lot, but it's also a bit of a narrative shift from the earlier sections of the game.

Overall it feels like different parts of plots that don't entirely mesh together: The first 1/3 of the game is the Star Wars-y section, the middle 1/3 of the game is mostly lacking in plot completely and about traveling, and the final 1/3 of the game swerves into different directions and feels kind of disjointed from the opening 1/3. Despite all this, I love the game, but the plot isn't really its strong suit.
Yeah, the plot may be all over the place, but the overall vibe the game oozes through its locations and designs is amazing.

Also, the gambit system. Messing around with it to the point where you can just run through the game on 4x speed and everything around you just dies without you having to press buttons at all makes for some of the most insanely fun grinding in any RPG.

The legendary @bellydrum skin can be bought with Yeah!s. But the epic Bellydrum skin can only be purchased with Famicoins. The epic Bellydrum skin costs 21 Famicoins. You can purchase 10 Famicoins for $10 or get 25 Famicoins for $20. If you purchase the 25 coin bundle, you essentially get 5 free Famicoins!

this is a funny way to put it seeing as star wars was extremely popular everywhere because it was so heavily influenced by japan

“influential in japan” seems kinda backhanded when the whole thing is white boys do japanese cinema in space the movie
What I said is objectively true. It was influential in Japan and among Japanese writers, directors, and creators. The fact that Lucas was influenced by Japanese filmmaking doesn't change that. How is that backhanded?

Oh absolutely. FF12 is like the definition of the 'exploration, side quests/hunts, vibes, and atmosphere' type of game. I still think it has probably the absolute best hidden areas I've ever come across in a game, especially with how they feel: The feeling of delving deeper and deeper into ancient, long-lost places that it feels like you probably shouldn't be going, especially with how hard to find some of them are, and leading to a unique summon boss/superboss/etc. is just top tier.

Anybody else want to know how many Famicoins they'd have if Famicoin were around from the start?

I'm going to include your numbers in the Famicoin announcement thread, so get in while you can.
Sure, why not. Curious about how my STs would do. Gotta be ready for some more in 2023 after all.

Can someone please explain to me why Sony remade TLOU1 and is remaking Horizon Zero Dawn instead of remaking the original God of War games? It makes no sense.
I believe TLOU1 was remade to introduce Naughty Dog engineers to the PS5 hardware and make them comfortable moving forward. I can’t speak to Horizon.

My assumption about not remaking the original God of War games is that it would require more work than the other games if you wanted to leverage the new combat / mechanics found in 2018 and Ragnarok. Plus, since the GoW series has done a reboot, there’s less of a need to introduce players to the previous games - imo, of course.

The two times I tried to play it I had a hard time adjusting to the "stop moving to shoot" mechanic. And then stopped playing it was too scary. But I'm stronger now! I've played RE2R. It's the stop-and-pop that I think I'll have a hard time with.
coming from RE2R and RE3R I can completely understand you, I had some difficulty adapting to the gameplay at the very beginning of the game but after a few minutes I got used to it. And it's super cool to experience the game that defined Third Person Shooters and to see how far we've come !

I don’t mean like that you meant it that way, just that the reversal was funny to me

plus I feel like if a french animation studio were doing something with star wars, it’d be weird to say “oh yeah that makes sense it was really influential in france”

for better or worse it was really influential everywhere

Eh not really, SW's influence is mostly focused on the anglosphere, Western Europe and Japan. For most of Latin America, Africa and Asia, SW is obscure to a straight up non-entity. You can compare the box office intake of the new SW movies to Marvel movies in those regions and you'll see the difference. China especially has no real culture nostalgia for Star Wars and it shows, if anything they're more likely to be familiar with the anime series influenced by Star Wars, like Gundam.

Yeah, they're done with the Jaffe era Kratos and they're never going back. The new team at the SMS has a different vision for the series and absolutely buried the past. The new games hardly make any reference to the Greek saga.

I have yet to play Ragnarök but I wouldn't be surprised if that is the last place we saw Kratos. Moving on to a different setting with Atreus alone makes sense.

Y'all wanna know how stupid I am? I was getting so mad at my new PC, the Bluetooth audio was stuttery and awful. I tried a whole bunch of stuff to fix it and nothing worked, but I did eventually realize that it would improve slightly if I leaned right up next to the tower. The solution? Plug in the included wifi antennae that came with the motherboard, you fucking idiot

I even bought a wifi extender because my wifi performance had previously been so bad. I may not have needed it lol

Holy shit Scarlet and Violet actually look really fucking good from the leaks. So it was the marketing that was terrible, not the game. Wtf lol
I didn't feel like the marketing was "awful", it's just that GameFreak likes to show as little as possible about their games now and that can be a little worrying in today's gaming landscape. Plus, the fact that the first trailer was a little rough. 😅
But I would really like to know why you think the marketing was terrible.

I didn't even knew we had coins, but yeah, show me the money

As a youtuber, when you call a game about INDIAN culture--"cooking traditional middle eastern indian dishes" you deserve to be ridiculed online. Can't believe a statement like that was said in 2022.

Today I found out my partner can see the future; she has foreseen that she will become mysteriously unwell on the 18th of November and need to take a day of leave. I wish I could see the future.

There's a lot more to the game than what's seen in the trailers. I originally thought the game would be low on content until I saw the leaks.

Thats some powerfull premonition pwer....

But really, hope people would be more honest. I manage 2 support members in my office and both of them asked for the 18th as a day off for "family reasons". We can't leave the office without support so my process was very direct
ME "Who's gonna pick the grass starter?"
Suppor members with surprised face
ME "Come on, I know its pokemon launch day, but we need someone here, so whos picking grass type?"
A: "Sorry, can't betray fire types"
ME "Ok, B you got the day"

In the end I told A he can bring his switch, as long as he answers I don't care if he plays in site

Speaking personally, the marketing really is doing nothing for me. Every trailer has left me feeling massively underwhelmed and severely not-hyped. It wasn’t until the leaks started coming and I started watching the game be streamed that I started to get excited about SV.

Cool to hear this positive take! I'm as media blackout as I managed to be so I haven't seen a single trailer. From what friends have told me and what I've seen on accident I've been very excited though and this fills me with even more excitement. So far Legends Arceus is my favourite game that came out this year, hopefully Scarlet will be even better for me.

I feel like my illness is so bizarre and my engagement so zigzag that I'm not going to be rewarded with Famiwealth; it reflects the struggle in the real world where I function just enough to not qualify for meaningful financial assistance but not enough to be able to easily work full time which I'd prefer

This post is unintentionally dark so nobody take it to heart; I'm not stressed or anything. Just continuing to assess how I interact with the world on all levels while I figure out this illness, and that's the right thing to do.

Edit - did I get fucking paid for this post? More royalties for this than all my academic writing so far fml

My stupid brain when work told us there won't be turkey at the company lunch due to supply chain issues - "damn the chip shortage got to them too?"
