Not sure what they'll add in terms of new Pikmin. But they gotta add something back that was missing from 3.

4 captains won't be the new gimmick here.

Instead, as this game will launch with the Switch Pro, the gimmick will be that it runs at 4k and you control, well, 4000 Pikmin at the same time.
 
I wouldn't mind four totally new captains, but I think we'll see some of the Pikmin 3 ones return. The captain in the screenshots is probably Brittany.

Pikmin 4 will be a Diablo-like dungeon crawler with talent trees and an auction house where you need to pay with real life money.

I think if it were someone else, they'd look markedly different. Like they could have a completely different face, but they'd still have almost the exact same pink hair from the back.

How do you think they could reference the fact that this is the fourth game? The first, second and third games had a corresponding number of captains but I think four captains is too much. It might be in 4K but I think there'd be something else. Maybe the game will explore the four seasons more? Does anyone have any ideas?

4 new types of Pikmin, rather than the usual 2.
 
I wonder what we will gather this time.
I'd like to go back to treasures. Sure, it is not new, but it is fun to see what you can find, and has a lot more variation than Fruit and such.
I wanna find a Switch, with a pair of JoyCons next to it, all different treasures.

I remember "Caution: DO NOT EAT!" giving me a good laugh. I like to picture how that went. Also, it's funny how all hocotatians are vegetarians iirc and then there's Louie eating everything he can get his hands on

Oh yes agreed, Louie being the most evil Nintendo character is my headcanon.
I love how surprisingly dark and wicked Pikmin can be for such a innocent-looking franchise

I intend to wait until the February Direct to see if they're happening before I bite on Wii U, but it's a quiet fall for me and they're looking quite tempting...

This will obviously be a game released on switch and whatever is next for them. Really looking forward to it. At least we know it’s real and coming. Hopefully no delays.

I don't think I'd allow my daughters to watch a Pikmin TV program. Shit is deceptively scary as fuck.

They'd probably be less scarred by a Silent Hill jump scare than the hordes of cute and lovable little critters with flowers on top being swallowed by eldritch beings.

pikmin ARE the eldritch beings.

I will say it again but bulbmin are legit terrifying. Something that infects a bulborb, takes roots in its brain and starts controlling it like a zombie? nah fam im going out

Would you be happy to know that parasites that do more or less the exact same thing exist in real life?

That is probably where they took the bulbmin idea from in the first place.

I, for one, can sympathise with brain-infesting parasites for who they are as long as they are cute and flowery.
 
Almost 2 months after the reveal and it got me thinking there really will never be something like this ever again. From the announcement of it in the casual interview, to something that looked like trolling for years to then actually announcing it in the direct with the full trolling mode by Miyamoto. There is nothing that will top this. Ever. We reached peak of video games with Pikmin 4 existing and being announced.
 
Having recently beaten Pikmin 3 Deluxe and finding it to be an excellent game, my hot take is still that I hope Pikmin 4 has just one captain, at least in story mode. I want to return to the lonely feeling of Pikmin 1, and also my neurodivergence makes multitasking a huge struggle. I pretty much just barely passed the final level of Pikmin 3 because I had a lot of difficulty balancing work between three captains. At the very least, I'll accept two captains.
