Apparently the performance for the version NintendoLife played was…. not good

Though it seems like they might have been playing an older build.

This doesn't really say much, same content we've seen for all the promotional material as expected. Performance has to be improved for release because it's hard to look at in some of these videos.

Nah, we got to learn/confirm some new smaller stuff:
1. Auto Battles give WAY less exp than normal battles
2. Attack relearning works like in Legends
3. Shinies are on the overworld
4. Clothes and customization is not genderlocked anymore.

Nice previews all over, only big complaint I see are framerates. Which is very apparent in the videos (that I have seen before?)

Really can't wait to make sandwiches from Lechonk, wondering how a shiny ham will look between buns. Really excited for the game and I really hope they manage to fix the framerate because that was rough.

Didn't read or view many of the previews but the little i did read make it really sound like one heck of a Pokemon game. Looking forward to it.

One of the changes I LOVE:
"Scarlet & Violet continues Legends: Arceus method of relearning and forgetting moves – you can do it just from the menu at any time"

Seriously though, I do appreciate all the changes that these entries are bringing to the formula. Again, they feel like the first proper main games on Switch.

Unfortunately, one can't say the same about the visuals and performance which is clearly the place where Game Freak was going to fail (although I do prefer this style to whatever the hell Sword&Shield was aiming for) and I don't expect things to improve too much at release date.

Let's see how things go on once that people get the full game (Not reviewers though since after Sword&Shield, one puts very little trust on what they have to say about a Pokemon game).

Most of these (except 4, that's really good but we knew that from the trailer already) are just little mechanical things that are good to know but not really something I care to find out from preview material. I want to know how the world is structured, what sort of content the world is filled with, etc.

A bunch of these previews keep mentioning how much there is to do but none of them elaborate what exactly. Is it good bespoke content or random filler busywork? Do towns have more in them than a gym + stores? Sidequests? Are there dungeons?

Getting some clarity on how trainer battles work is nice but the actual implementation of them sounds poor.

My threshold for performance was set lower after playing Arceus(still put 35 hours in for the opening weekend). Feed me this game day 1 with extra sauce on the side.

One of the previews mentioned that NPCs at Pokemon Centers can give challenges to complete (beat x amount of trainers in y amount of time for example), and one gave some kind of collection sidequest

wow, it’s looking even better than I thought

annoyed that they’re implementing some of the things that I’ve built into my game to make it “different than Pokémon” though, which… was bound to happen

I'm already seeing previews blaming Switch hardware instead of GF's own lack of technical capabilities. Quite annoying
Really frustrating. Also if the game looks and feels this duct taped together a month before release, even if they do improve things by launch it just doesn't seem like a good, sustainable practice to be this under the gun with every project.

Good to hear, thanks.

Thank god. That was one of the few things from Legends Arceus I wanted transferred over. Now do we know if evolution can be triggered whenever or are we back to pressing the b button or using an everstone?

I assume evolution has to be triggered because there’s a Let’s Go command.

I don't want to tone down expectations about this again, but making customization not gender-locked anymore, while it sounds good, is pretty easy if we're only getting different kinds of unisex uniforms as a base according to the official site and some leaks.
Apparently skirts and dresses aren't a thing which is a real bummer to me, if confirmed.

I really just wish that Gamefreak would fix the color palette. The world is getting better but the Pokemon, especially older Pokemon, are still dull.

Either way I do not care about the technical issues. Pop-in is to be expected. Legends had loads of pop-in.

Previews look good! Glad to see there's a lot of shiny things in the overworld to collect, every good open world needs a bunch of shiny things

Couple that with the stories and the more interesting "shiny things" like, you know, Pokemon, and I think this'll be a pretty fun and engaging romp. I'm not sure it'll steal the title of my favorite Pokemon game from Arceus (I think that game spoke to me a lot more than the traditional formula) but it's got a solid chance at second place and may have more surprises in store.

Well, they're not wrong, Switch is a dated hardware, and they worked on two games at the same time. It's not like other first party devs are any better at big games like this. Xeno 3 had its own share of shortcomings (like low resolution).

XB3 looks light years ahead of S/V.

Nothing on XC3 is as bad as anything in Scarlet&Violet.

It's so muddy on handheld mode. If GF cut off the resolution a little like Monolith did, they could have improved the framerate and popins. But different priorities, I guess. SV seems to be native on both modes.

Game Freak has yet to put out a game that exceeds a Wii U game on better hardware. there's only so much you can pin on the hardware when you have a studio that's saddled with tech debt and little time to experiment like Game Freak

SV looks 720p docked according to NintendoLife.

Monolith used temporal reconstruction in XB3. It looks far better than the IQ of their previous games.

Lots of great QoL stuff shown off, looking good. All I need now is the full dex and I'll be ready to go!

Right...Arceus performs pretty terribly at times but I still had an absolute blast with that game. It's one of my favorite Switch games, definitely top ten. This could be even better.

I'd take XC3 over SV's aliasing any day. all the high resolution in the world can't save my eyes from the jaggies

I am hyped as fuck for this.

I haven't even watched the lastest trailers, can't wait to discover all the new pokémon in an open world, this is gonna be sick

Until GF settles for an engine, gets more time with projects, people with more technical prowess and Creatures updates/finishes all the pokemon models, we are not getting a super technical advance game. But they are improving so I am happy for that. Still more head room on the Drake will help.

Excited for more coverage of the game.

Which not many IPs can get away with. But the main driver of Pokemon is, well, the Pokemon and catching them. It's still a very addicting and fun thing to do. It's like every time you catch a Pokemon is a small drop of dopamine.

Although I agree I don't think there's any use to relive this previous discussion that did not, um, go well lol..

Of course. Sorry about that, not my intention. I guess I wanted to highlight that we can see the improvements and they will only get better thanks to experience.

I'd ask if you'd picked a starter yet, but, uhh, well... :)
