When's the last time we got a bad video game adaptation? It seems like everything recently has ranged from merely okay (Detective Pikachu) to great (Arcane). I just realized that when I was watching the TLOU trailer. We've come a long way.

EDIT: Wait, I forgot about Halo fuck
I never watched that show but people clowned on that FPS scene for days

Hey this is sort of a non-sequitur by now but I felt I aughta say thanks to all yall who responded to my rant earlier. It's nice to hear some actual perspectives that don't sound suspiciously biased by.. ya know.. politics an shit

Happy official release of Trails From Zero day!

I’m barely entering the Geofront for the first time so I’m not far in at all. The Switch port looks amazing and there is an extensive options menu. This does indeed seem like the definitive release :)

About Indies in 2022.

Anyone else find this year's indie games not really standing out compared to past 3-4 years? Between 2018-2021 I think I bought 10+ stellar indie games each year. This year there's not been as much compelling (to me at least). Granted I have not yet played Neon White which is supposed to be an amazing game.

How do you feel?

Shredders Revenge, Pocky & Rocky and Return to Monkey Island are amazing, but they're also licensed so that's a lil bit of cheat I feel.
Arise a Simple Story was also pretty good, beautiful story but the technical side left a bit to wish for.

I absolutely feel the same. There was many great indie games in the past years, and so few in 2022 (Neon White and OlliOlli World are pretty good, but that's the only two I can think of). I don't even see what Nintendo could've put in an August Indie World. Also some games with quite a lot of hype/coverage ended up pretty bad (namely Frogun, which was awful), which doesn't help. Hope it's just a bad year and not a sign of some bad things happening in the indie dev world.

Game sales on PC are the bane of my existence. It's almost sickening just how pathetic my self-control is when it comes to this. Steam library is growing and growing, full of bloat. Yikes.

I haven’t been playing too many myself, but I guess in general I’d agree not many are making a splash and having staying power. Tunic and Neon White seem like the big exceptions. Trombone Champ had a great 24 hours on Twitter recently, but I’m not sure how many went on to play it. I don’t think this years games are bad though or anything a lot of games are certainly getting quiet, satisfied enjoyment.

I really want to play Blossom Tales II and Cursed to Golf. I missed out on both when I was completely consumed by Xenoblade and then this month escaped me. Might be a while until I have time since Trails From Zero is pulling me in hard already lol.

Just keep having fun in Splatoon 3, I find that actually playing games helps with dealing with FOMO.

Theres no lack of effort. I play about a minimum of 3 games in rotation at any time. But it is hard to ignore a shiny new title I want to add to the collection.

Also I want to mention, My Nintendo Store is still in maintenance (in Europe). Is nobody tracking this? (aside from @Bonejack ) It's been a long ass time and i'm going NUTS.

Partly agree, have had a hard time getting into most indie games this year for some reason. Tunic was fantastic though and I think I'm going to enjoy Sifu once it comes to Switch/XBOX.

Can confirm it's still in maintenance.

Can also confirm that it's starting to look like a clown show.

First, they couldn't offer the Xeno 3 CE stuff with the game, then they weren't able to get the store relaunch done in time for the game to begin with, then they happily send e-mails that the CE stuff will soon be available, but jokes on you, how about a 4 day long (so far!) maintenance the day after the e-mails were sent?

I would love to see the communication about the maintenance, because other than reprogramming core parts of the store i can't imagine a case that warrants it to be this long.

Because time means nothing, I was putting together a list of great indies that game out this year, only to realize they all came out last year 😱

The trick for this is to have your PC start to die, and never fix it. That way you can't play PC games anymore, and thus you don't go on Steam.

Unless you start thinking to yourself how nice it would be to have a Deck so that you can play your several hundred Steam games, in which case god help you.

The solution for your PC game problems is easy, just gift me your Steam Deck!
This is the real solution. I'll cosign on this and say to anyone who has trouble with Steam sales, just send your Steam Decks to me and Bonejack. Problem solved!

A random thought. But the reason i think ive felt dissapointed with the most recent two directs, and a few before that, is because i wanted to see more first party announcements from nintendo’s catalogue of ip’s. When i compare it to the wii u, i realize their directs had more first party games because they didnt have the support of third parties, but now that they do, it makes sense that some of their first party games and announcements might take a back seat to let the third party shines. As someone who only plays Nintendo games on my switch because i have other platforms, it can be a little disappointing to me personally, but i’ve realized that in this era of third party prosperity on the switch, i need to reset my expectations for Nintendo's show cases. The third party support affords nintendo more time to polish their own titles. Sony has been doing the same thing with many of their recent presentations. Focusing on third party while maybe spotlighting one or two upcoming first party games that will be releasing shortly. While this method is admittedly less exciting for me, i 100 percent understand why its done this way

I've had the same issue with indies this year. Then again, I haven't played all that much during the year. Neon White is a fantastic game with an awful story (that you can mostly skip), so it's definitely something to check out.

My Nintendo announcement senses are tingling this morning
“Good morning, Bounty Hunters! It has been 20 years since Samus first explored the depths of Talon IV. You can continue her adventures by playing Metroid Dread, now available for Nintendo Switch.”

Neon White and Sifu are incredible but otherwise I guess I feel the same just not a whole lot I’m super interested in
I do really want to try Tunic though

I think it’s totally to be disappointed by the last Directs if you’re looking for certain specific things. I think the February one this year was really great. But if you’re a fan of some franchises (2D/3D Mario, M&L, DK etc) there wasn’t much in those presentations. And it’s even worse if you had a Wii U.

Well, I'd still have my laptop, which I'd need anyways, so ... won't help. :p

And @Bonejack would need to hand over his PS5 in exchange for the Deck anyways

I can hand you over a router that looks like a PS5, how about that?
I'm good on that front already, tho...

This has been legit my strategy to stop buying steam games. More due to not needing a PC at home than anything else, but...

God dammit the ps5 has the most overdone design in modern gaming. I cant believe people actually laughed at xbox's minimalistic design
What are you talking about? The PS5 looks brilliant behind my TV where I can't see it

Should we expect any notable new reveals of some sort, in the coming few weeks? I have not kept up with rumors or so lately.
I know we just got a Direct
Buuuut
Yoshis safari 2: the most dangerous game. but instead of the super scope, it uses realistically detailed guns ripped out of call of duty.

Played Splatoon 1 over the past few days (just the campaign) and was pleasantly surprised. Not by the campaign itself, level design and all that kinda sucked and was super basic, but just by how damn good it feels to play. I started with the second game and the motion controls never really felt right to me, it just felt off playing the game like that. I played 25 hours of the game with stick controls because I couldn’t get used to the gyro (and I love gyro in most shooters). And yet the moment I started the first game, the motion controls were just fantastic. I don’t really get it, but the Wii U game pad just worked so much better for it. Needa go back and try 2 and see if the controls really do feel that different, because I certainly don’t remember it controlling anywhere near that well.

I mean I'm not crazy about the PS5 design but at least it's not just a nondescript black box made to be invisible in mY eNTertAinMenT CEntERR
