Using spreadsheets while playing rpgs feels very nice for some reason.
Games like Etrian Odyssey, Labyrinth of Refrain, and Atelier games have very nice communities that put together some great info.
I remember when I was reviewing Labyrinth of Refrain (and when I was playing Labyrinth of Galleria, for that matter) I consulted some JP wikis that fans were making, and it was very surprising how thorough things were. Especially for Galleria! I was playing through the game at launch, and yet folks were compiling info at a breakneck pace.

I had to consult MANY online guides/forum topics about Refrain when I played it. It has so many systems and mechanics and ideas that just aren't very well explained in-game, but once you understand them it's pretty great.

Speaking of... you got any idea when we can get Galleria in English? I keep hearing how great it is, and I've been itching for a good DRPG for a while! I can wait a while, but sometime next year would be sweet.

I can't wait to play Galleria. I hope to be a Galleria enjoyer soon

My bigger worry is getting spoiled on some of the upgrades and bosses.
It's the upgrades for me. Nothing beats getting an upgrade in a metroidvania that you weren't expecting or didn't know existed, and suddenly finding you're much more mobile/more powerful and have a ton of places you can go back and explore.

I know that feeling, lol. Honestly that's kind of me with Tales of Arise right now. I don't DISlike, exactly, it's just that I'm starting to find it less fun to actually play than I did near the middle. But on the other hand, I want to keep at it because I want to see where the hell the plot goes because it's looking to be getting pretty batshit insane, and I'm always down for some batshit anime nonsense.
Would you say that it's better to stick to the main quest mostly to get through it in a timely manner so to not burn out? I've deleted MH World from my PC so that I _finally_ can stop chipping away at that and continue playing the ending parts of HZD, Control, as well as continue my early savegame for Arise (still in the second or third area, lol). It's too much otherwise. @.@
Simply wondering if Arise is better played in a more linear manner.

Yeah, I've got no clue. The earliest it could launch is next year, but it may well slip to 2023. We'll see - I'm more confident it's going to come over, now that it's getting a Switch port.

The reason I always want to get kind of spoiled before release isn’t out of hype it’s out of anxiety lol.

like in dread’s case, I want to be reassured that they didn’t reveal every new upgrade before release, instead of facing potential disappointment in game that hurts my playthrough.

for instance, learning from leaks that Botw’s dungeons were massively less involved than previous games made me less disappointed in my actual playthrough and I could appreciate it for what it was after getting the initial shock of change out of the way.

I don’t wanna know every boss or story beat or upgrade, but I do want some raw numbers on how much of each thing we can expect.

I think thanks the Switch release of Galleria is soon the chance it get localized is higher now. I can't believe NIS only announced it for PS4 and Vita, they should knew by 2020 the audience of those games, both inside and outside of Japan, is in Switch.

Holy shit Fast RMX is HARD. And I'm on Novice difficulty!
It is. From what I recall the AI can be absolute cheating bastards at times, too. Or maybe that's just what I told myself to feel better, idk. It has been a while.

I think it might be, honestly. Not that there's a ton of side stuff to do, it's a very linear game so far just in general anyway. It does seem to be balanced in such a way that enemy XP scales (at least I think it does) relative to your level to some degree, so if you get to an area where there are enemies above your level you'll level up VERY quickly if you just do some chain battles as you explore. The only issue I see with that is that you tend to get the bulk of your skill points from sidequests, so you may want to at least do the really easy ones to keep up there.

The plot starts showing hints of getting more interesting around the third realm, and you unlock pretty much all the characters and systems and such by the start of the fourth realm. But the twists don't REALLY start to hit until the fifth realm.

I'm interested to see how much of the game I have left - based on game length and what people have been saying, it seems like I'm around 2/3-3/4 through, but if that's the case then I have serious questions about this game's pacing.

Yeah now that there's a Switch version I could see a late 2022 English port. I think Refrain did relatively well on Switch in English? At least given how niche and the type of game it is.

Refrain sold best on Switch in the west.

...I still find it funny that I ended up playing the sequel to a game I played on Switch, on a Vita.

The AI isn't even the problem, it's the freaking obstacles. I kept ramming into the robots on the Iceland course.

Labyrinth of Galleria is probably a poster child of why being reactive to industry trends and too rigid with your plans can have negative affects, and it sticks out like a sore thumb compared to the rest of NIS' projects.

Finding out Galleria was releasing on PS4 and Vita only was one of the biggest "What in the actual holy hell" reactions I've had in a long time

I remember playing the crap out of that when the Switch launched. You really have to memorize the tracks, especially for the harder cups
I can already tell I'm gonna lose my mind on harder difficulties. Game is great, but I'm already raging and it only gets worse from here.

For Tweeting an image that's been on the official Smash Bros website for years?
Wow, it really is just in the list of screenshots under Zero Suit Samus.

The main thing I currently love about Famiboards is it has that smaller, tight-knit community feel to it. It doesn't feel like there's 40 different communities fighting for power and control over the site's identity.

Resetera is a very impressive site, but it always had one lingering problem hanging over it: Too many voices were fighting over it's soul. Because the site was so large, nobody could agree on what the site should actually be. Should Era just simply be Gaf 2.0... or should it be something different or better? That was always the big debate ever since that site launched.

To be clear, I never had any personal issues or problems with Resetera. In fact, Cerium literally just restored my account over there. Cerium is a very gentle, kind-hearted human being and running a large like that is emotionally-draining. His health has just deteriorated rapidly since that site launched. People forget he was just a member of the Nintendo-Gaf community before he started that site.

Anyways, Famiboard is a very, very special place, and I'm rooting for it to succeed and grow. I'm currently loving everything about this new site (including the staff). I've worked in marketing for nearly 11 years for numerous clients in the food and beverage industry. And this website's branding has been pure genius so far: "Famiboards"..."Startopics"...even adopting the Miiverse "Yeahs"... It's the tiny things (like that) which really help add to this forum's unique atmosphere and friendly vibe.

Controversial advice to the staff: Be careful about growing Famiboards too large, too quickly. That was always one of my biggest complaints with Resetera. Era's community was massive on day 1, but most of the staff had no past experience managing communities that large. Don't bite more than you can chew.

I only spent about 30 minutes with it, I really need to get back to it one of these days. The switching colors is both amazingly innovative and also incredibly difficult to actually do.

very good post, i agree with the last point as well.

Yea I agree that the community is better off if it stays tight-knit and focused rather than going big.

Definitely agree with Emily there.

Some of my issues with Era in general was the rampant hypocrisy from other parts of the sites, not referring to Nintendo era as they were one of the good ones. Just certain ones on there have annoyed me for years. I stopped visiting the ot of one for a while.

Agreed on pretty much everything, including the last piece of advice. I don’t think just opening the gates is a good idea. Best to keep adding users in small batches for now.

Definitely agree about the tight knit community, but at the same time, the forum is moving too slow! I guess we all need to post more : P

The good news is there are alot of people that want to sign up so once the gates open we should see a lot more activity.

I think on top of it being more difficult to manage for the staff, I think naturally as there are more members, it becomes easier for voices to be lost among the crowd. You get people feeling, "well, somebody already has said this, so there's no point in me posting," or "nobody wants to read what I have to say anyway." Some of that is, of course, just internal conflict, and ideally nobody would feel that way, but I think it's only natural. I think that having and fostering a friendly and welcoming community can help assuage some of those feelings though, and to me it seems like you all have been successful in that regard so far. Keep up the good work :)

Wanting to stay focused and tight knit is one of the reasons the sales community is doing their own thing as well.

There's a lot of overlap(you'll see me on both sites) but we want a place to focus on sales.

Thank you so much for the perspective and advice. The enthusiasm behind this project, from both the community and the staff, has been amazing, and we'll try our best to deliver on that. The scope of the site is something we're trying to manage very carefully. There are still a lot of people waiting for registrations to open back up, and while I know there will be growing pains along the way, this is all great advice for us to keep in mind. We're all really happy you and everyone else is enjoying the site so far!

Also I just bought the Atelier Mysterious Trilogy because it's on sale and each game has a digital art book as well, it just added 6 icons to my screen!😱

I’m sure this site will be okay. We hate Nintendo more then anything and that’s how we’ll bond.

Bastards, where’s our Pokémon Colosseum 60 bucks remaster with no changes that we’ll all pay for happily.

I've always thought the "Nintendo Direct Speculation" community on Era was something that could sustain a forum on its own. Especially because the vast majority of us were always very kind and welcoming people, and nobody really had any problems with people going off topic out of the blue. I'm pretty sure I had a long conversation about the Great British Bakeoff in that January 2018 thread for basically no reason.

The fact that we went through 27(ish) OTs- 400 pages each- in less than 4 years showed that we definitely had that desire and drive to step out on our own in a dedicated setting. I'm glad we're finally getting a chance to try, though I do wish it was prompted by better circumstances.

Anyway, it really does bring me so much joy to see all of these familiar names and faces here.

I’ve been debating getting Arise myself sometime. Never played a Tales game before and it did look interesting to me
It's the first in the series that I've really liked so far. I've tried three or four others already, but lost interest soon into the respective games. Something about them never clicked for me, but Arise is different. It looks nicer, feels more modern, sounds good as well, the fights are stylish and fun. Can't say I've ever felt this way about prior ones.

The only thing I will say about ResetERA is that the negativity has really hurt the site. There would be weeks or months were I would pretty much stay in the Nintendo General Discussion thread and that was it. I stayed the heck out of Pokemon threads for the longest time because there was virtually no productivity in there. There were plenty of Playstation and Xbox threads that went downhill fast. Between meltdowns, accusations of "concern trolling", and condescending takes just made it a bummer of an experience as time went on. I like the community that we have here and I hope it grows organically in a good way.

And for the record I don't consider all of ERA debbie downers. There are still plenty of awesome people there and I plan to continue posting there.

Arise is excellent! Definitely the one to try out if you're interested in giving the series a go, and a damn good JRPG on its own merits.

Plus Arise gave us this forum

I got plans for the next few months but if there is a good sale or on game pass then I’ll give it a go at some point
