Pre-Release Splatoon 3 — Pre-release Discussion Thread

Alright new suggestion:

They keep rotations for turf war, and for the ranked gamemode, but the ranked map is random picked from a pool that rotates every month, similar to the current pool system. In ranked you get to see the map you're about to play on, and you get see your teammates' weapons and pick your own.

Fun fact! The people who pick the ranked map pool do actually favour maps the community generally considers as good.

Opinions not allowed folks. 😒
Opinions are one thing. But statements of quantifiable information, like sales, need proof. The game is not out yet and preorder numbers are not indicative of it.

In the end, if people have concern about the game (game modes, content, graphics, etc) that is fine and understandable, given the recent track record of switch multiplayer games. But saying a game is gonna do worst than its predecessor without any proof seems unnecessary.

As someone who isn't into online competitive play, I might bite if the single player is worth the price of admission. I always liked the characters, art, music and world of the Splatoon games. Hopefully the single player is meaty enough and interesting looking. Going in with low expectations for now though but Nintendo could surprise us with something cool.

Outside of a few missing classics from Splatoon 1, looking at you Saltspray Rig, my favorite map in the whole series, what is this bad map nonsense? Splatoon 2 maps slapped.

Agreed, the majority of "bad maps" in Splatoon 2 are returning from 1.

I prefer the more open layouts of 1 to the chokepoints of 2

Never got around to 1 since my Wii U Gamepad died, but I think the maps in 2 are pretty good overall. My least favorite maps are probably from 1, actually, although it’s been a hot minute since I’ve played.

Best map was Mako Mart though. Love that one.

I just want Saltspray Rig and some of the other big maps from 1, where they were big, vertical and horizontel, like Saltspray, which made every match feel so different.

Saltspray Rig is literally the single map I wanted back from OG Splatoon.

For me the only way Splatoon 3 is going to get my money this time is that the 2 player mode has to be like the multi
Player as In ink as much as each others land as you can.

people are asking for a BR like mode but personally I'd want another PVE mode, like Salmon Run, that focuses more on cooperation.

Still would love the idea of destiny - like raids where, as a 4 - 5 players group, you go through a gauntlet of puzzles, platforming challenges with an unique boss at the end and obviously that'd be separate of the campaign mode that'd remain a solo affair.

Obviously that'd also be perfect for the GaaS nature of the franchise where they could add a new raid every 3 - 4 months, unlike Destiny they could potentially take advantage of the floating in the air platforms layout they used in previous games in the campaign so they can reuse assets.

I realize it won't happen but I can always dream.

I made this wishlist over a year ago. Curious how much of it I'll be able to tick off!

They could reveal the ability to skip the news and transmog gear and I'd preorder Splatoon 3 within 30 seconds.

One other wish that I have is a more in-depth training mode. I've wanted to get better at the chargers forever, but you have the comically simple training dummies and that's it. Human opponents also destroy me so I inevitably fall back on the same few weapons that I can hold my own with.

Here’s hoping there’s something to really excite me here. Base Splatoon 2 was fun but very much just more of the same, Octo Expansion is Splatoon 2 to me.

Here’s hoping this is Splatoon 3 and not 1.3.

Great list. Considering that we have name tags and apparently much more customisation in 3, I think long-term goals to work toward are there. I'm curious what you mean by music toggle and long-term league? option to turn music on/off anytime, and some sort of a in-game tourney between guilds?

Please Nintendo, give me:
1. Single player mode good enough to stand on its own
2. Less friction around cooperating with friends; I want an option at any point in time to cooperate with friends. If that's an always-on co-op mode, or if it's allowing some form of team play without barring it behind League requirements, both are fine.

Pretty much yeah. Long term league could mean any squad mode where you have a ranking that you keep longer than one rotation.

What are the chances we will see Kraken returning? They showed a little tease during the Mammalians trailer. Fingers crossed, it's my fav special

No clue what the chances are, but I think a kraken rework could work really well. In my opinion kraken was actually well designed BESIDES the fact it was instant invincibility. Give it a little windup time and some other changes and I'd love to see it return.

I feel a lot of problems with the game would get fixed if they just added a "server browser" for custom games, really. There's private games, but you basically need to have a full group of 8 for that to work.

Want to play with friends without the game enforcing some weird balance rules on you that end with all your friends in the rival team? Make a custom match.
Want to play a map that isn't in rotation right now? Custom match.
Want to go solo bucket against an entire enemy team? Custom match.

Agreed, something like the battle arenas in smash ultimate would be really cool. I know room codes are also a highly requested feature among the competitive scene, so you don't have to add someone every time you face a new team in tournaments.

It's been years since the last time I played splatoon 2 so I have to admit that I'm really hyped for this game.
As far as the bad marketing complaints, just wait for tomorrow, the game is a month away and Nintendo ended the pre release marketing of xeno 3, now it's the time to push splatoon 3 hard and the direct is the perfect way to do that.
Just be patient, it's like criticising star wars a new hope before they arrive at the death star.

I think a Turf War with multiple teams would be cool, maybe 3 teams of 3? And you have to be constantly checking the map to target the team with the most coverage.

I don't think it'd work very well normally, but maybe this game's shifty stations could be designed around 3 teams? So it'd be a special splatfest event to have 3v3v3, and every splatfest would have 3 options to pick as well

why its live one day before the direct?

They took them offline just now. Nintendo of Europe just wanted to make the statement to all of us how confusing it is that Game specific Directs get announced two days in advance while a normal one only one day, so they went ahead but got unfortunately stopped :(

Time for The Snitch to prove he doesn't hate Nintendo (or is afraid of Nintendo Ninjas) and give us some juicy intel on what's coming. :p
