I was under the impression that since it's a Mario Party game, people already know what to expect, but I hope previews drop for the game. I'd like to see one last board gameplay before the game releases.
This is where I'm at. I don't think there will be previews but who knows. I don't think they'll matter much except for the online stuff.
So where the hell is sports story. Last update was in July iirc? Jeez man
You're telling me. Feels like a Q2 game next year. I think they just took on too much with the game and they are trying to make the sports not look tacked on, you know? But they also have to make sure the game isn't bloated lmfao.

Yesssss. It seems like all the work put into the graphics of the world aren't there to serve the game, rather it's there to try and convince you it isn't a game. You bring up Horizon (I was trying not to 😅), and it's a great example of what I'm talking about. Yeah, I was impressed with the scope and some of the twists were enjoyable and surprising, but I feel like I skipped over probably 80% of the content and game world because there was no reason or incentive provided to seek it out. "No interactivity" is right.
Interactivity is just what I see video games to be all about. Sony and other AAA devs like to push games as a story driven media, but stories are just one thing that video games can do which is really quite limiting. Nintendo on the other hand are top notch at making their worlds interactive which to me is more meaningful than world building through top notch graphics. I agree these worlds that are put together in cinematic games don't serve the game. They're built to serve the world building and storytelling. I think perhaps designing the games around storytelling is limiting to the gameplay and interactive elements in some ways. Nintendo doesn't focus too much on narrative, and so is able to sidestep this kind of problem by creating their worlds based on interactive play.

I wanna Yeah! this twice, dammit. LOL
I remember having talks with my friends about designing a game and everyone but me was saying "the first thing you need to do when designing a game is come up with a good story, world, and characters" and I was thinking about how Splatoon characters were initially just cubes in white space while they got the gameplay concepts and mechanics worked out and was like "noooooooooo the first thing when designing a game is to come up with A GAME TO PLAY" 😂

Honestly the older I get, more I understand Miyamoto's insistence on removing story elements from games. There's a time and place, people!! Story, world, and characters are why I love old Square RPGs, not why I love old Sonic games. Look what story, world, and characters did to Sonic for chrissakes.

cuz you know Dread is the game of the moment AND "Dread" rhymes with thread AND you can do Sequence Breaking in Dread AND this is literally a sequence break for Nintendo General Discussion threads since we're starting from scratch

A sequence break for Nintendo General Discussion would be if we were to rename it to Nintendo Direct Speculation 😉

Agreed. And I think you can even extend this way of thinking into why Nintendo has a catalogue that appeals to more diverse audiences. Because they think about play first, about having a game at the core, each game then has to be unique in it's way. So we end up with games like Ring Fit Adventure, 51 Worldwide Games and New Pokemon Snap. Of course some of those don't involve game worlds at all, but this diversity is why I'm always engaged with Nintendo's library. And of course, even though they come up with the gameplay first, they do a wonderful job with characters and giving each IP it's own feel.

I thought this was a Breaking Bad pun

Tom Nook and Sonny/Don Resetti are the only characters in the Animal Crossing universe with last names (implied or otherwise) (assuming “K.K. Slider” is a stage name)

what does this mean
It totally is a stage name. His real name is Totakeke and he's based off the guy who wrote Totaka's Song, which I shall now proceed to hum under my breath as I always do upon its mention.

Is this sony hate time now? Honestly they don't only have highly cinematic games like last of us or uncharted. They do stuff like Sackboy,Astros Playroom, and Ratchet and clank too. They used to do more experimental stuff in the past but they still have variety in the type of games they make.

I was going to go with them having other chat where that are direct relatives, but we have the Abel Sisters and the Dodo Brothers. There is no logic other than that those sets of characters are the financiers and surveillance staff of the island. Maybe they demand to be called Mr from every villager/resident since they are really in control.

Animal Crossing is secret remake of The Prisoner tv-show.

If you play Happy Home Paradise then you're a filthy capitalist building homes for the animal elite! We should be eating the animals not padding their pockets while they grind us humans beneath their feet.

Ok so here’s my digital backlog of stuff I’m working on/will probably actually finish(for now…. There’s a lot more than this, this is just the current focus) tho to be fair I’m 90% through AAT and VC

I'm not hating on Sony, I'm making a comparison. I'm aware of the games that Sony publish and I'm not claiming there's no variety. It's pretty clear there are different game design philosophies between the two companies and that they also target audiences differently with their products. Either method can be criticised for sure but I should be able to say which method I prefer by pointing out the differences.

Trying to buy some merch from the Pokemon Center website, and my IP is banned for browsing too fast? The hell is this?
Huh. Your comment got me curious, so I tried getting on to the Pokemon Center site too, and the same thing is happening to me. Must be a site wide thing?'

Refreshing the page seems to have fixed it though.

I know, right! I'm hopeful the delay is because they have a ton of ideas they want to include - Golf Story was quality, and the little snippet they showed us in the Summer looks like more of the same. Feels like it's going to be H1 2022... but you never know, it could arrive in time for the holidays.

Hope you're hanging in there, Fami! I've had a busy couple of days so I haven't been around much.

Oh yeah. Sora came out in Smash.

I should get to that one day, don’t think I’ve even used Kazuya either. But I really have no desire to play smash so i might play KH 1.5 instead.

Want to play ALttP.
Also feeling guilty about playing it so much.
Also don’t want it to end (before SMT V release).
Being a gamer is tough.

I did notice you were... Missing.

You just single-handedly came up with 8 solid subtitle ideas for a theoretical Famiboards General Discussion ST. Bravo.

I never thought being both a car weeb and a weeb weeb would so appropriately intersect. 😂

Dude offers you interest-free loan without guarantees or vouching WITH no scheduled payments or due date.

He's practically socialist.
Yeah, the perception of Tom Nook as a ruthless businessman has always seemed ridiculous to me. I've heard it argued that the fact you can't say no to expansion and therefore debt is predatory, but how can an interest free debt in a creditless financial system even be predatory? If anything Tom Nook is a complete idiot.

Now that could be an interesting town ordinance. ARM mortgages. If you can’t pay Nook’s crippling interest rate on time, the Repo man comes. Also would give Mr Resetti a better presence in the game. This might convince people to buy the real world DLC to pay off their debts.

This made me do a legitimate IRL chortle.
also my phone tried to autocorrect "chortle" to "Chrono" because it knows me

Is Tom Nook the most capitalistic video game character today? I can't think of a better choice.
C'mon folks, Redd is in the exact same game, and will never be forgiven for going on a year and a half of not giving me the art i need to complete my musuem

Redd is a mirror of Nintendo with its legacy content, drip feeding you one piece at a time.
