To be fair, I came up with the name Startopic and I am a huge fan of Startropics. Originally I pitched it as one of the names for the forum but people rightfully pointed out it would cause too much confusion.

I beat Tales of Arise tonight. Honestly, it wasnโ€™t good enough for Era mods to go nuclear on a community over.

Is anyone else slightly hyped for Voice of Cards after playing the demo, or is it just me? I really like the unique aesthetics of it, with everything being card based, and I enjoyed my time with it.

From everything they've communicated, you don't necessarily have to have played anything Metroid. That being said: Ideally, yes. If you have the time to comfortably complete it before Dread, that is. At the very least, though, you should play it at some point.

I guess it ultimately depends on how prone you are to get fatigued by playing similar games back to back, given how close we are to release.

I didnโ€™t love the demo. I thought the presentation was actually really bland, which is weird given the unique way it uses cards for everything. I also thought it was strange that there was only the single voice actor, it seems like that would grate very quickly. Then there was the gameplay, which is very by-the-numbers for an RPG and also felt incredibly sluggish. And finally, it really bothered me how sexualized the main female character is.

Suffice to say Iโ€™m gonna be passing on Voice of Cards.
 
I've never beaten a Metroid game despite generally enjoying them. The Prime games were difficult for me as a teenager and for the 2D ones I always get a decently far but get distracted and never finished. Zelda is my favorite franchise and the first 2D Zelda I beat was A Link Between Worlds. I've been the Link's Awakening remake as well.

I havenโ€™t played the demo, I usually donโ€™t go for demos much, but it looks interesting. Iโ€™m going to wait on reviews on this one. If it has some of the usual Yoko Taro craziness thatโ€™ll be a big plus

Does anyone know if Walmart puts Switch games out the night before release? I want to get that ten dollar discount for Metroid on Thursday.

The lone voice actor didn't bother me. It reminded me of Bastion's narrator, which isn't a bad thing. I agree on the design of that particular character, though.

Man, I really wish Target was brave enough to ship the OLEDs out early. I might not get mine until the 14th.

It depends on the store, but in general Walmart won't even sell something to you before street date.

When you buy digital your game shipment doesn't get delayed but you also won't wind up getting it early.

Of course buying a console digitally is a mite bit trickier.
 
No luck for me. OLEDs not in the store. Guess they tightly control my area's supply line.

If we have pokemon arceus, splatoon 3, metroid prime 1 remaster, bayonetta 3, triangle strategy, kirby 3D and breath of the wild 2, 2022 is going to be amazing

I finally pre-ordered Dread. I know, I know. Me being such a huge fan, what was I waiting for? Happy it has a pre-load, too!

I am so excited.

Glad to finally be on the forum. I have kept myself away from basically all Dread media since the launch trailer/treehouse streams. Excited to go into this one blind.
 
Yeah, even though I only played the original and the remake of the second, Iโ€™m excited for Dread. Mostly because of following the excitement for anything Metroid on the old places for years.

Welcome. Everyone here is generally pretty respectable and fun to interact with. Hopefully you have kept up with all the meta commentary in the old threads in case some of that stuff comes back.

For a series which mainline games were technically gone since the Wii (or GBA if you want to ignore Other M; or Gamecube if you count Prime as mainline), it definitely seems good!

Also hey everybody! Semi-lurker from the old ERA threads here. Used to participate a bit in the days when we were all waiting for the first pandemic Direct, but went back to lurking a tad afterwards!
